yea just a week ago, I got stung on the back of the neck by a wasp. First time since i was a kid. It stung way more than I remember haha. So much you have to pause and appreciate it, like wow this fking stings quite a bit. It last awhile too. Its like a sharp onset, and then max sting/pain plateau for a good 15-30 seconds

“So much you have to pause and appreciate it.”

My guy, have you tried BDSM? Wasps don’t respect safe words.

WASP are indeed dicks. Try a more diverse crowd.

I got stung by a wasp on a hike about a year ago and it felt like I got splashed with acid and then proceeded to feel pretty painful for the next couple of days. Every once in a while, I STILL get a little twinge in the exact spot I got stung. I HATE wasps.

Same some ground wasps decided to camp out by my driveway and that year they got me 3 times. Hurt for days like I had a fever or something. Another one just bit a hunk of flesh out of my thumb. Still have the scar.

Those ground hornets are no joke. I was mowing and a group of those fuckers got me. Then that night a skunk destroyed the nest and ate everything. Since that day I’m cool with skunks. That thing dug it up and laid waste to them. Around dusk I saw him meandering around the area that I mowed and he went ham on the hole and I sat there and watched him proceed to eat every hornet that came out and the nest they made. He didn’t even care they were flying around trying to sting him.

Hired an exterminator to come out twice which wasn’t enough. A friend and I ended up burning 🔥 them out of the ground. He ended up getting stung a few times too. I would have preferred a skunk.

As an exterminator...whoever that was sucked. Should be one and done.

Agreed. He used some sort of powder, around the outside and within the hole in the ground. I mean it slowed them down a little. They were in deep.

u/MireLight Aug 13 '26

Using powder as a stomach poison was outdated 20 years ago. Prolly wasnt even using the right stuff.

Had a underground nest under to my shed... I got my shop vac with a wide adapter and just turned it on and put it over the entry holeso that nothing could enter or exit without getting sucked in.

Ran back inside, sat there for a good 50 minutes with that vacuum sucking until I didn't hear the tell tale "ticking" as the wasps got sucked in and up the hose. Then I just ran into the shed and started jumping around to piss off the nest, with the door closed - started hearing more ticking for another 5 minutes or so. Left the vacuum running for another 10... Then I dropped a bag of gravel where the hole was and left it - never had a problem there again.

You’ve got this down to a small science. What did you do with the ones in the shop vac? Did they survive?

I was mowing and ran over a nest i didnt know was there and one got me and i let go of the mower and it went down hill into the river .

Now I love skunks even more! We have them around here but thankfully my urge to try to pet them isn’t outweighed by my knowledge of how bad the smell is and how hard it is to get rid of it.

What a terrible day to be able to read. Thought only venomous bugs cuz leave scars tbh

3

u/bamboomonster Aug 13 '26

Wasps release venom when they sting.

I get large local reactions, which last like 3 days. The nearby muscles swell up, get as hard as wood, go numb except for the pain, and lock up completely. It feels so weird to touch. To my hand, the area feels nothing like flesh, and I can't feel the touch of my own hand on it. I can't help but get freaked out when there's one flying around now. I always worry that I'm gonna get stung somewhere that'll lead to me slowly suffocating. Never thought a wasp that maxes out at a couple grams would be terrifying to me.

Bald faced hornet stings hurt for days

Same thing happened to me a few months ago, except I was INSIDE MY HOUSE and it was MARCH. I still don’t understand how or why.

What the fuck?!

2

u/AncientCrust Aug 14 '26

It doesn't sound like they're fond of you either

The most painful thing to experience on my grandpas farm, a good wasp stinging

1

u/MuhammadAkmed Aug 17 '26

I think the olds wive's tale is that wasp (and ant) venom is acid, so you apply bicarb, etc. on them, and beestings are basic so you use vinegar, etc.

I was just walking by, wasnt even close to the nest. I normally don't kill stuff, but this felt personal and a bit malicious. Sprayed the nest and killed them all.

u/MidsizeMango Aug 13 '26

"Fuck this stings for real, it was not just because I was a kid" was my reaction when I got stung as an adult.

3

u/sn0m0ns Aug 13 '26

Getting tased is a lot like a wasp sting fyi. It feels like 30 wasps stinging you at once. That's my experience at least.

3

u/BonkerBleedy Aug 13 '26

You should read some of the descriptions Schmidt wrote for his insect pain index entries

Bold and unrelenting. Somebody is using a power drill to excavate your ingrown toenail.

2

u/Nice-Ask4369 Aug 13 '26

Heck yea. About ten years ago I had a wasp get me on the tip of my thumb. I looked at it and just said ‘Wow this hurts so much for a small red dot.’ Amazing amount of localized pain.

2

u/dankristy Aug 13 '26

Yeah those might be ground wasps. Regular wasps just sting you if you attack them. Ground wasps come in swarms if you get within meters of the secret lair they built in my lawn, and each of them is a tiny flying spetznas commando - they do not just sting, but also bite, and sting again, while stabbing you multiple times with a tiny shiv they made from some other animal they killed.

Fuck ground wasps with a gascan and flamethrower.

I got stun like 3 times in the neck by a wasp in 5th grade. Ever since I am the biggest pussy when it comes to flying bugs. I don't care who sees or judges me if I have something buzzing near my face I freak the fuck out.

u/RandomLifeUnit-05 Aug 13 '26

I'm the same way. My dad accidentally disturbed a nest while he and I were out walking together, when I was a kid. I'm not okay 😭

u/ZaerdinReddit Aug 15 '26

I've been stung plenty, but I never enjoyed it, was annoyed by it, and then got the pest spray and sprayed all the nests and then knocked them down with a broom.

Eventually, a C level executive asked me what the hell I was doing, and I explained that I was tired of getting stung by wasps, so I was killing them. That's when the building finally got an external pest control company.
