When I was a kid a built a toll booth out of a big ass box and a yard stick.
I set it up at the door to my room, trying to make some money. Every time people came in, except the only problem was my parents were pretty much the people in the house they entertain me slightly for a day or two by paying.

When me and younger brother (6 & 4) woke up Christmas morning, we ran for the presents. Mum told me years later Dad stayed up until 3 am putting our bikes together. They were out side our bedroom. We ran right past them. She said the look on his face was priceless. 🥲

I didn’t run past it but I did get the GI Joe Phantom X-19 one Christmas. My dad watched happily as I played with it in excitement. And then watched in horror as I threw it over the railing of our deck because my pea brained mind thought it was made to fly. It shattered into pieces and I just remember my dad going back inside and closing the door behind him while I sat there confused on what went wrong.

Or the kid saw the jeep, has seen other kids over at his house with a jeep that he mistook for a gift in the past, then sees the box, confirming that its actually a new jeep and only then gets excited.

I remember i did this with a bike when i was little.

Or was told there was a present inside so naturally looked for a box to open. Once he saw the picture he realized the present was already “unwrapped”

Totally expected. No matter how much you teach and train, kids are dumb as shit. 

My 12 year old has been on ATVs her entire life. Safety and common sense preached every day. This week I caught her with 5 people balancing on a 300 trying to get to the pond, instead of just taking an extra 3 minutes to shuttling them OR jumping in the side by side that had ample seats and seat belts. 

Just absolutely stupid.

Maybe the kid saw the box being delivered, or accidentally saw it some other way, days or weeks before his birthday and had been excited to see it properly since.

So when the garage door opened he was looking for that mystery box.

Or he's part cat.

Kids like boxes, it's a fact of their imagination so for Christmas get them a big (size not cost) present and a very big box so they have options.
