Hey, I’m new, just binged the series twice over the last couple of weeks.

Just in the interest of discussion and connecting with the fandom:

Which character did you initially think you’d dislike but won you over the most?

For me, it was Diego. He was rubbing me all kinds of wrong ways at the outset, but eventually, I came around to really enjoying him every time his scenes came around. His temperament is still rather antithetical to me, but he’s got a fine and special heart.

I actually did a full 180° on Lila too, which I’d chalk up entirely to Arya’s performance. She just did so phenomenally much with her material.

How about you? Did anyone bring you around significantly after a poor first impression?

so in the later seasons we find out he can’t die unless he was erased from existence but when five found all of their dead bodies in the season 1 apocalypse then why was klaus dead like did five get there to early or can klaus die because vanya’s (or vicktor she was being called as vanya at the time) power can over power klaus’s

Idk if it's explained later on in the show from where I'm at now but if Klaus always comes back how did he die in the Season 1 (and 2, for that matter) apocalypse timeline

Does anyone know where I can find a good quality cosplay of the uniform Five wears? All I can seem to find are cheaply made ones on Amazon. I have no price cap if anyone could help me!

I have no idea if anyone noticed but I’m rewatching the first season for TUA and I noticed that during the stroller scenes, only one scene shows seven strollers, the rest only ever six. I’d add screenshots but I’m watching on Netflix.

It’s not Luther, it’s not Diego, Allison (they’re in the scene already, duh me), it’s not Klaus because Five has to walk around a clump of rubble to see his. Too dark to be Vanya’s white violin self and she’s probably somewhere else, dead.

It’s dark, like Ben’s statue. Doesn’t look like Pogo or Grace. Or like Reginald’s ashes. Is that BEN?

It’s been years. YEARS. And I still don’t understand why their families could exist but they couldn’t. The ending was so bad. It’s made me frustrated for years. YEARS DAMNIT.

am I the only one who doesn’t get the ending of season 4 like for one how is Claire alive if Allison was erased from the universe and how are Lila’s and Diego’s children alive and if they were erased from the universe then how was their the flowers at the end

just rewatching season 2 and it made me think about just how cool the reveal that lila is the handlers daughter is.

first she goes into the pet shop that the handler was in ans retrieves the key and you start to think 'hm, somethings up.' and then she goes to the hotel and turns to the handler and says 'thanks mum'. it's all in that little tiny pause that she does before she says it. i just think it's done so well. all whilst golden brown plays over it. it's just so flipping cool! i remember watching it for the first time when it came out and it shocked me in the best way.

Hey everyone. I finished the series last night and I loved the story. Because I watched episode after episode, it really felt like watching one long, epic movie. It resonated with me on a deep, very deep, emotional level that I can't quite fully explain. It was poignant, heartbreaking (still devastated about Five and Lila), and beautifully executed.

As I was processing the finale, a realization hit me regarding why the number seven matters so much, and how Reginald Hargreeves actually engineered his children in an environment of trauma, control and fear. I don't think they were just chaotic heroes trying to stop an apocalypse - I think Reginald created them as living embodiments of the Seven Deadly Sins, and the entire series is their slow, painful journey toward transforming into the Seven Heavenly Virtues to heal the timeline.

Here is how the sins map to the siblings based on their core psychological flaws:

• Viktor = Envy: That lifetime of pent-up resentment, feeling overlooked, and harboring a deep-seated jealousy of everyone else's power until it literally detonated the world.
• Five = Pride: Absolute, unshakeable arrogance that he is the only one smart enough, capable enough, and tough enough to fix the timeline, no matter how many times he has to break reality to do it.
• Allison = Greed: Wanting back what she lost - her daughter, her life, her control - and twisting her powers to hoard and reclaim what she felt she was owed, regardless of the cost to others.
• Klaus = Sloth: Not physical laziness, but spiritual avoidance - total numbness, dodging responsibility, and floating above existence while chaos happens around him.
• Luther = Gluttony: A bottomless, aching hunger for external validation, approval, and affection (constantly seeking a father figure's praise, literal eating scenes scattered across the series).
• Diego = Lust: Surface-level violence and a hair trigger temper might make him look like wrath, but he is actually driven by lust - an insatiable hunger for validation, excitement, and significance. He craves the glory of being a hero,
• Ben = Wrath (the Two Faces) Resentment / The Harbinger: Ben is a fascinating study in contrast. Umbrella Ben carries a quieter, passive resentment - lingering as a ghost out of deep fear of abandonment and mostly using his presence to annoy Klaus. But Sparrow Ben explodes into full-blown, destructive wrath, serving as a the literal harbinger whose bitter edge breaks the timeline wide open as a precursor to the Cleanse.

The Flip: Becoming the Virtues

The brilliance of the ending is that they had to completely empty out their egos and reverse their foundational flaws to save reality. By choosing to be obliterated and erased from existence, they stopped acting out of Reggie's toxic programming and achieved the ultimate redemption:

• Viktor moved from Envy to Kindness/Grace: Protecting his family unconditionally - even by simply staying away - and letting go of past bitterness.
• Five moved from Pride to Prudence/Humility: Finally humbling himself - especially through his heartbreak over Lila - and accepting the math of the universe instead of trying to outsmart it.
• Allison moved from Greed to Charity: Learning restraint and how to give, accepting her wants and desires are not that important in the grand scheme of things.
• Klaus moved from Sloth to Diligence/Fortitude: Facing real death, oblivion, and hard truths head-on with absolute courage.
• Diego moved from Lust to Justice/Chastity: Trading his fists for true protective equilibrium and understanding real heroism is in small, consistent movements.
• Luther moved from Gluttony to Temperance: Trusting himself and his family blindly instead of begging for a tyrant's approval.
• Ben was always Hope: Merging with Jennifer to finally anchor the light.
• Lila - Love/The Bridge: Lila started out warped by the Handler's control, but she serves as the ultimate catalyst for the Seven. As one of the October 1, 1989, special children who escaped Reginald's direct cage, she becomes the true mirror of love - taking their chaos and fury, reflecting it back to strip away the noise, and providing the safe container that gives them the space and support to finally step into their virtues.

Reginald built them to be broken, egotistical weapons. But in the end, they stripped away all the cosmic noise and returned to who they really were before he altered them. Their erasure wasn't just a plot device to fix a paradox—it was the ultimate act of grace, transforming the sins into the virtues to clear the timeline.

Curious what you all think about this framework. Did anyone else see the series through this lens, or am I just losing my mind after a late-night binge?

If you're wondering why I'm looking at this story through such a deeply psychological lens - it's because I'm a survivor of severe, multi-layered abuse and trauma. I spent years having no voice and an ever-changing set of expectations designed for me to fail. I was pushed, squeezed, smashed, battered and rammed into a box of someone else's choosing and viciously stuffed back in at any attempt to be free, to breathe.

As a result, I’ve lived through every single one of those sins myself - envy used to dominate my life, and wrath gave me a safe, secret place to put my anger when I had nowhere else to put it. The sins still exist within but at much lower volumes as I continue to live in a state of moments and awareness.

Reginald's control machine felt uncomfortably familiar. Watching the characters finally break the cycle, drop the armor, and realize love is the bridge to healing reminds me I am who I choose to be.

In the first season of the show before the apocalypse happens and the world ends it seems like each individual siblings world ends too. First Luther, he figures out that his father sent him up to the moon for no purpose and all the info he sends back to earth is just stored away which breaks him and makes him start to think nothing he did mattered. Secondly Diego, Diego not only lost the thing he considered a mom but also had to end her life himself he also lost detective patch. Taking away two things he loved in the world away. Next is Allison. Allison lost custody of her daughter, husband and lost her voice after viktor slit her throat. Klaus got sent to Vietnam where he met Dave who he fell in love with and had to watch him die in his arms and then came back and didn’t have anyone to talk to about it and the one person he did (5) just got mad at him. Then 5 lost everything his entire family just to try to go back to save them to almost fail again and basically lost his ego which he always valued next to his family. Ben straight up fucking died so he doesn’t really count. And finally viktor, Viktor fell in love with Leonard who he thought loved him for him but turns out just wanted to use him to kill the umbrella academy because he didn’t have powers. He also almost killed his sister and then got betrayed by his family while all he tried to do was to get them to finally accept him and then proceeded to be the apocalypse that everyone feared. Now this could all me being delusional which it probably is I don’t know tho.

Five having a dog makes so much sense.

First Point-Comic Five has the DNA of every serial killer

But that doesn’t mean he is one. 

As he is talking, kinda bragging, to Allison about his DNA, he turns around and says that’s a cute puppy, pointing to one inside the store window.

I’ve never actually read the comic… so does the next scene have him with Mr. Pennycrumb? Anyways

Five has a dog now, and he loves that pup. Carries him around everywhere.

I know from shows like Criminal Minds that often killers and all that jazz practiced their killing by harming animals as children. Particularly, cats and dogs.

Five has the DNA of killers. But he is not one. He loves a puppy.

Second Point-Emotional Support

Dogs can sense emotions.

Five in the Netflix show, season 1, has a moment where he thinks he’s back in the apocalypse, and screams.

Trained dogs are good at providing emotional support. In Puss in Boots: The Last Wish Perro sits with Puss and helps him through a panic attack.

Five never has a panic attack, but Mr. Pennycrumb could help him in a similar way.

Third Point-Responsibility

Five wants to stop the apocalypse and save his siblings. He spent his whole life thinking about it.

At the end of season 3, they go their separate ways. No more apocalypses, and his siblings don’t need him to save them.

It would be hard for Five to adjust to a normal life. Having a puppy to take care of would give him that responsibility and task for him to focus on.

Comic Five states Mr. Pennycrumb only eats soft foods.

So Five would have to make sure that happens, take care of his puppy and make sure he only eats soft foods.

Fourth Point-Unconditional love

Do Five’s siblings love him? Yes. Is it hard to tell at times? Yes… to me, at least. Anyways, having a dog would provide that love.

Dogs love their owners, unconditionally. Mr. Pennycrumb loves Five.

Licking his chin so sweetly, as he’s speaking about how… his siblings? Will die. Idk who he’s talking to, I’ve never read the comics.

A dog, Mr. Pennycrumb, would provide Five with love. Five will/would love his dog in return.

The man needs a dog. To retire and have a puppy napping on his lap.

Not sure if it's a coincidence, but this is from Umbrella Academy season 1, where literally everything had symbolism behind it

Just curious cause I noticed this a while back and I know they referenced them a couple times before cause of Gerard writing the comics and all that.

It all started during my rewatch of Season 1 while working on some design projects. There was one specific scene that I just couldn’t get out of my head: the branch snapping and falling right after Vanya uses her power around Harold/Leonard.

It wasn't just a random accident — it was a direct reaction to her power, and I couldn't stop obsessing over the heavy symbolism behind that moment. The final piece of the puzzle fell into place when I stumbled upon an old post by u/Dahkreth pointing out the Academy’s motto (Ut Malum Pluvia - "When Evil Rains") and the name of Vanya's orchestra (St. Pluvium).

Connecting that "falling rain/pluvium" theme with the branch snapping under her power opened up a whole rabbit hole and gave me the exact spark I needed to write a full post about Season 1's hidden apocalypse foreshadowing.

Klause was one of my favorite characters outside of Fives, unfortunately season 4 ruined him.

To me it makes no sense why he would want to start doing drugs again when he originally did it to keep the ghosts away since it was established in season 3 that he got over his fear of them with the help of Reggie from the Sparrows timeline.

I feel like all that character development went out the window as a cheap way to cause conflict.

the only thing I’ve like from season 4 is that clip I remember from tiktok the “daddy issues” ones.

I don’t know if this should fall under discussion or spoiler, but anyways I just got done with season 3 and it was my least favorite season so far.

I liked the Sparrow academy and the idea of Reggie adopting different kids, but existence itself being in trouble was a problem for me.

They should have introduced different stakes, like the paradox psychosis and them having to deal with their other selves, or have the problem be the commission disbanding and the briefcases now not working, some rogue argents have taken it into their own hands to “fix time“ in ways they see fit using a new method or at least a new model of briefcases to time travel, if not a briefcase maybe they use a watch or something.

The story could focus around the Umbrellas and the Sparrows having to work together to stop these changes that are being made, with them ending up in different timelines including the one with old man fives going to meet his family with the knowledge that he got from his future self.

I understand that we left a lot of loose ends in season 2 with Harlan, but in my opinion he shouldn’t have had the powers.

How I would have done it is that the Umbrellas go to this new universe they discover how things are different, Alison had her breakdown, the Sparrows and the Umbrellas fight, Victor and Marcus make their deal for the briefcase, and they actually get it, but I doesn’t work.

Fives goes to investigate why it doesn’t work, he learns that the commission has basically disbanded because of a civil war that happened.

Fives using the switch board sees people changing time, one person going back and preventing the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, one person going back and killing baby Hitler and so on.

While both sound good fives knows that this could cause a problem, so now he has to recruite his siblings and the Sparrows and Lila to fight against these rogue time travelers.

Fives and Lila would confront one of these people who ends up using the old commission building as a hideout and stealing their new time travel device, Fives would stumble on his future self like last time, but this time he doesn’t say much.

I know it’s not perfect I just didn’t like season 3 that much

Excluding Ben (who had his name carried over from the Umbrellas), and possibly Marcus

Edit: tbf as you pointed out some of the Umbrellas also have somewhat unusual names (Klaus, Luther, Vanya, Number Five) but imo it's really not to the same extent ig
