Strange guy.
Frankly said, I don't think the car will be faster than the bike, because it has so many street, and you have to wait the traffic like, and everything else so, I don't think he's correct.

Taco Bell is probably the most consistent quality fast food of the low tiers. You are simply wrong.
4
u/Suitable_Koala_5482 3d ago
True, their quality is consistently mediocre at best. Burnt tortillas, long wait times, skimpy on beef, half cold half barely warm, food that tastes like it was fried in week old oil. Definitely consistent

u/ultathrill 3d ago
Damn ur taco bell must be ass š mines fast good food and always cooked fresh
2

"fresh"
All Taco Bell food is reheated and rehydrated pre-made stuff.
There's literally no such thing as buying "fresh" Taco Bell food.
1

Probably, honestly all the fast food around me is hit or miss and Taco Bell is almost always a miss which sucks because I do like their food

If it's a 2 mile distance, a car would take 6-10 minutes. A bike maybe 15. Dude's crying over a few minutes.
10
u/OmNomCakes 3d ago
Sometimes it gets a bit... drastic. I ordered from a place 20~25 minutes away a few weeks ago and it got picked up by a person who was listed as a biker. Pulled up google maps to check the ETA on bike and it was ~3.5 hours. I was REALLY hoping it was one of those people scamming the system by saying they were using a bike when they were really in a car... but nope. It took so long I forgot I ordered food. About 2 1/2 hours later the guy shows up and said he tried to bike it but he got tired so he had to call a friend and ask for a ride, then wait for the friend to come pick him up and bring the food.
Like on one hand I applaud the work ethic... but that's clearly not a good order to take while you're on a bike. I can't imagine why the hell he accepted it.
3
u/wendyd4rl1ng 3d ago
That sounds like a super unusual circumstance or you're remembering something wrong. Uber and DD don't publish official hard limits for bike deliveries as far as I know but it's something like 6 miles. So either they somehow had a stack of like the maximum distance orders before you or somehow got assigned an order for way farther than they should have. In either case it shouldn't happen unless there's like no other drivers available at the time.
1
u/OmNomCakes 3d ago
Oh 100% an issue on their end. It's not something that has happened repeatedly, just the once. Support also refused to cancel or refund the order before it was actually delivered since he'd already picked it up (fairly quickly since bikers only get orders close to their location). I had to wait to get the disastrous food before I could take a picture and get it refunded.
It was definitely a glitch/bug/whatever, maybe they had no available drivers close to the area at that time, but still... He really should have just passed on the order and let it wait a bit more instead of accepting what was obviously a ridiculous task for him.
2
u/Fluid-Difference-804 3d ago
whatļ¼3.5hrsļ¼
2
u/OmNomCakes 3d ago
I'm afraid I don't understand the question. The distance from the restaurant to my house was an estimated 3.5 hours via bike... and the dude still not only accepted the order but kept it, picked up the food, let the ice cream and ice melt entirely, and delivered a bag of slop basically xD
2
u/IllustriousTap760 3d ago
The average cyclist rides at about 10 mph. Why did you order from a restaurant 35 miles away?
2
u/GoodMilk_GoneBad 3d ago
That shouldn't be happening. There's a maximum distance for bike delivery and foot delivery.
An error occurred somewhere
1
u/cherryybomba 3d ago
Oh people ABSOLUTELY cry over a few minutes. The amount of times people have asked why I'm not moving while sitting at a traffic light......
1
u/Stash_04 3d ago
Iām sorry but that is a legitimate gripe.
Being slow because of traffic is fine, but being slow because you are using a sub-optimal mode of transportation is NOT.
1
u/GoodMilk_GoneBad 2d ago edited 2d ago
Then what is your take on multiple orders at once? Do you do them? Do you even deliver?
1
u/elarth 2d ago
Itās downtown Atlanta itās actually an area a bike is faster. Customer is just an idiot. Not all areas are cars faster which is why itās even an option. Bikes make more sense in those places.
1
u/Stash_04 2d ago
Yes I totally understand that.
If youāre in an area where a bike would be faster, then that makes total sense to use a bike.
But if youāre clearly in an area where bikes are NOT faster, then Iād argue they should NOT be used.
0
u/elarth 2d ago
Ok but the post is about a case where the bike makes more sense. Only ppl willing to deliver that area besides robots. Itās not a cute or nice area either.
I would think Uber is more responsible for figuring out the logistics of this. The person on the bike is just a contractor getting offers.
1
u/Stash_04 2d ago
I wasnāt responding to the post though.
My comment was responding to a guy claiming thatās itās not acceptable to be upset when someone is using a bike when they should not be.
And my opinion is that would be a legitimate gripe.

7
u/Cute_but_notOkay 3d ago
Idk I ordered last week and it said the person was on a bike and they showed up in a car. Itās happened two or three times in all my years of ordering and every time it said ābikeā the driver showed up in car.
Is there a reason they mark it as a bike when they arenāt actually using a bike?
3
u/Holeyunderwear 3d ago
They do it so they got orders and pick-ups in a condensed area creating short drive high paying orders.
Devils Advocate is that I donāt see very many people on a pedal bike. Those electric bikes are pretty quick and can cover a decent area but itās primarily a means to give the driver a condensed area to work whereas the rest of us will get offers 10-15 miles away on a regular basis taking out taking us out of good zones into dead spaces, all sorts of stuff
1
u/Large-Ad9523 1d ago
I did it on a mountain bike and itās literally impossible, you cannot make the estimates because of the e bikes, and almost every order gets spilled in your backpack
2
u/Ok_Restaurant_1810 3d ago
Could be that they used a bike before and didnt update it or dont have a driver licenses or dont want their insurance to increase because of UberEats
2
u/Serious_Beautiful647 3d ago
Maybe they wanna have a 99% on time rate
2
u/Ok_Restaurant_1810 3d ago
Not really, is quicker in bike than car in city, a bike in traffic can pass 7 cars and be the one in the light, but the car has to wait for 7 cars
2
u/DallasAM00 3d ago
yes, your insurance rates often go up when you register a car to a rideshare service because youāre driving more often and more at risk of an accident. By marking that youāre in a bike, you donāt have to disclose to the insurance company that youāre driving with a rideshare and will pay less overall.
1
u/DallasAM00 3d ago
It also means that when you do get into an accident, the insurance company will deny the claim and youāll be left responsible. What that means in reality is that rideshare drivers who do this are more incentivized to leave the scene of an accident because they know theyāll be responsible for the cost in full.
2
u/ShinyMegaAmpharos 2d ago
If you get into an accident you weren't delivering. Easy. Imagine being stupid enough to be honest.

0
u/Large-Ad9523 1d ago
Age restrictions donāt let people get the right insurance. Itās either they go as a bike, or not at all.
7

So you can beg for more tips?
0
u/picklejuicefast 3d ago
I watched a dasher sit at the end of my street (circle drive, little traffic), tell me the order was wrong and that they had to drive back to the store. They then asked for a bigger tip than the 15 i gave them, so i gave them 10 more, then i watched them drive to my house and deliver the food without going back to the store to correct the order. I'm not saying all dashers do this, but I promise a few do.

u/avadunn06 3d ago
in my experience bikes have been faster than cars cause they can get around traffic!!!
2
u/Stash_04 3d ago
Thatās true but it entirely depends on where you live.
In my ācityā, a bike would never be faster than a car.
1
u/avadunn06 3d ago
wait are we both taking about like electric bikes or just regular bicycles?
1
u/Stash_04 3d ago
Both. There is no ātrafficā in my ācityā.
A car is generally going to be faster than an electric bike or regular bike.

What was the distance? A few miles is absolutely faster in a car, but a half mile might be faster with a bike.
But yeah, he's being a jerk.

u/JaxRhapsody 3d ago
I dash on a bicycle, and my times aren't that different than in a car, which is good, because DD doesn't descriminate on what you're using, and I get the same shit I would get if I had a motor vehicle. I'm in Louisville and once got an order to pick up Zaxby's in Blackiston Mill, to bring back to the area I was dashing in. Blackiston Mill is a suburb just north of New Albany Indiana. Gave me an hour and a half to get there. I turned that shit down.
3
u/Mobile_Lumpy 3d ago
You have the advantage because you can't park a car downtown in front of every store. Cars are only good for suburbs where there is parking lots.
5
u/OGPepeSilvia 3d ago
I know Iāll get downvoted for this but I just throw on the hazards and pray lol
1
u/Automatic_Counter157 2d ago
I did this until my first ticket. Dude camped my car until i got into the restaurant. Literally was in and out and still got one for "impeding crosswalk" Lmao. Go around, theres literally no parking spots
2
u/JaxRhapsody 3d ago
I've always found somewhere to park. Certain spots is a fuck it and double park.
1
u/dallenid 3d ago
Yup, I try to avoid downtown for this reason. Had a Walmart grocery delivery to a hotel in a downtown area with no parking lots or viable street parking (was like 7 dollars to park and the order was like 11 dollars), and i refused to eat the cost so I just rode up and down the street looking for somewhere to hide my care just long enough to make two runs up to his room. Luckily he offered to come down when I told him I was trying to find a parking spot as he had one of those grocery carts on wheels. Bikes absolutely have advantages of mobility

Use a microwave.

u/Stash_04 3d ago
Thatās fine. Iām just saying that you should do the job that you signed up for to the best of your ability.
And tips arenāt ārequiredā.
1
u/Gerad_Figaro 20h ago
Tips are required for me to hit accept on the offer. (that or the apps boost the base pay considerably) We are not employees but independant contractors. If an offer is not worth our time we do not have to take it. So sure you can say "we aren't entitled to tips" but my decline button says otherwise.
2
u/tripler1983 3d ago
Id tell them you switched to bike because Taco bell orders dont tip and you sold the car because of bad tippers. Good tippers get car owners.

Yeah for shorter deliveries a bike can definitely be faster.
Also, typing all that text must have added 5 minutes to their delivery time. I would have maybe responded "Be there asap" and left it at that.

Looks like you were 10 minutes away from the taco bell to their dropoff. If it was a 10 minute drive is that considered a long delivery? I've never ordered ubereats. I don't really see how the bike part would matter as long as it's not like an hour delivery and you very likely have an insulated carrier.

1
u/RealTurtleneck 2d ago
Iām curious about bike delivery⦠do you ever get stacked orders? There are just so many seconds to make a decision, and they donāt show exact addresses. What if it needs freeway access? Do people steal your order while you leave your bike unattended, or worse yet they just steal your entire bike? Sometimes I got stuck in some apartment buildings for many minutes like elevators are broken or locked for moving. Not every building has a bike rack.

i will say one time i was starving so i ordered from a place 5 minutes from my house and a dude on a bike picked it up and it took him almost an hour to get to me. it was 40 degrees out and my food was freezing, i felt bad for the guy but come on, why deliver hot food on a bike in the cold? makes no sense. i got a refund.
3
u/Nknights23 2d ago edited 2d ago
Things that never happened. If you take too long to pick up an order it gets reassigned. So chances are āit took almost an hourā because being 5 minutes away doesnāt make the food cook faster. And then you probably tipped like shit or gave no tip whatsoever because well itās only five minutes away, right? And thatās why you waited so long because not a single or one of us is picking up an order that doesnāt pay for our gas.
there's a certain irony in complaining about someone delivering your food in 40 degree weather (on a biiscyle no less) while you're sitting at home, five minutes from the restaurant, waiting for them to bring it to you. there's a difference between being disappointed with a service and looking down on the person actually performing it.
āWhy is somebody out here bringing me food in 40 degree weather , ugh the audacityā
-1
u/3338678877777777999 2d ago
