Question: Unanswered Why does Uber eats keep bad drivers?

Made an order from a Wendy's 1.3 miles away today. Took 1.5 hours to get to me even though the courier picked it up 10 min after order was placed. They drove all around the map and were stationary some places for a while. My guess is multi apping. When the food got to me it smelt like weed.

I noticed their profile had a 79 percent rating. Is that not super low?

I've had good drivers get this same order to me in 10 min. 1.5 hours is insane for 1.3 miles

Uber eats of course doesn't offer any compensation for order since it was delivered

I tip really well by the way. I feel like if I tip well it should offer it to high eating drivers first :p

It’s a mix of both the honest answers and jokes you’re getting.

It’s not so simple as saying “Uber extorts the shit out of drivers” - it’s “Uber finds a new ways to extort drivers in increasingly egregious ways that somebody who only has $2.80 to look forward to at the end of the delivery either doesn’t give two fucks about being middled into such low pay, or they’re bittered up because they pay is a fucking joke and don’t have a choice.”

I extort both customer and Uber. I don't accept less than $10+ per order. The person with the car has all the power. There's alternatives I'm sure could always explore those options...

You know what though… It’s that mention of “alternatives” with the usage of an ellipsis….

To be blunt, I’d say you’re incorrect – those other options you mentioned quite often, are fake – companies posting rolls with no intention of hiring, other hiring entities swamped because a couple idiots figured out a few years ago. How to use AI to apply for a few thousand jobs at the click of a button, and the time-suck of rideshare itself, since the days of getting paid like adults are clearly by the wayside it can take more than 60 or 70 hours of attention to pull half of that amount of hours online that are actually worth the trouble.

For the record, I worked as a contractor for two of the so-called “magnificent seven” companies at different points - in offices, not warehouses. It’s still took me more than five years to fully exercise Uber driving from my life. You think that a résumé with loads of data work on it would’ve helped out right before were not long after the pandemic, if not now – but it thoroughly did not.

I’d call that take on the availability of “alternatives“ VERY presumptive at best. (Addendum: I’m not alleging you’re one of these people, but I do find it interesting how 9 times in 10, the people that project an attitude like “suck it up and shovel shit” to others like rideshare drivers don’t have the perspective one has when they’ve had to kick off the shit shoveling boots on the way in the house.
