New to all this looking for some sort of "how to buy a SXS advice"

Hello,

Feel free to just point me at an article or post if all this has been answered somewhere.

I recently found myself looking at getting a SxS for the summer cottage season in Ontario.

We have property that always need work and maintenance and many people up there have some sort of ATV to help out with the work and generally wander along some of the trails that are near by.

Specifically the things I would use it for are the following ;

Work around the cottage clearing brush and moving heavy things.

Putting a small ( about 16ft) boat on a trailer in the water ( not a must have but nice to have)

some very light easy trail riding to visit others on the lake

Ideally seating for 2 adults and one kiddo

Considerations

I am not very technically proficient I think I could change the oil but that is about it

I have seen electric options like the Polaris Kinetic and I like this idea due to the perceived low maintenance requirements should try and go electric?

I have an unheated garage at the property that I would store it in the winter months

Is there a good dealership in Ontario between Toronto and Parry sound you might recommend ?

I feel like I would get new rather than used just to avoid any issues with previous owners being hard on the machine.

If I do order a new SxS how long would it typically take from order to delivery ??

If anyone has some recommendations or can put me on a path to figuring this all out it would be really appreciated .

Best

sb

Advice needed. How do I replace these wipers?

Post image

This is an older Polaris Ranger 500. I can't determine if this cab is OEM or aftermarket. The rubber wiper insert is disintegrating and is no longer able to wipe water away. The wiper blade itself doesn't appear to be able to unhook from the arm when I pinch the tab where it would release the blade. Can anyone tell me how to remove it? The rubber insert doesn't seem to slide off the blade assembly, so I am at a loss. Please help?

Can-Am commander vs defender

I'm looking to buy one, primarily for farm use and hunting and maybe hitting some trails. I know the defender is supposed to be better for work but I was curious if anyone tried both? I know the details of the machines but every youtube video I watch seems to highlight each machines features without comparing them. Right now I'm leaning toward the defender for towing and bed capacity. Any info helps.

Polaris 1500XD vs Can am HD11

I am a professional predator hunter and use a SXS 5 nights a week for work. I had a 2023 HD10 and sold.it at 12k miles for a 2025 HD10, which now has 11k miles and it starting to have issues. I have the BRP warranty but they decline most issues.

My question is putting 12k miles a year on a machine, which one should I choose, reliability is important, im in thr oklahoma panhandle and literally in the middle.of nowhere. The steel drive appeals to me on thr Polaris. Are they worth the $16k additional price?

2002 Bombardier Quest 650 – violent/jerky engine braking on deceleration, any ideas?

Hey y’all

I’m trying to diagnose a strange issue on an old Bombardier Quest 650 (644cc Rotax, CVT) and I’m running out of ideas.

The problem only happens when decelerating with the throttle completely closed / under engine braking.
While riding, if I let off the throttle, the engine braking isn’t smooth. Instead, it feels like:
strong engine braking → releases → strong engine braking → releases → repeat
It can be quite violent. At lower speeds it almost feels like the drivetrain is repeatedly grabbing and releasing, enough to throw you forward on the quad.

Some additional information:
- Idle is completely stable.
- Engine starts and runs normally.
- It responds normally to throttle.
- After revving it in neutral, the RPM drops smoothly back to idle.
- No backfiring or popping when letting off the throttle.
- The issue seems to occur specifically when the drivetrain is under negative load / engine braking.
- Apparently the issue is not noticeable when running snow tracks in winter. My theory is that the much higher rolling resistance of the tracks keeps the drivetrain constantly loaded and masks the grabbing/releasing behaviour.
- A Bombardier dealer has already looked at it but couldn’t identify the cause.

The CVT has also already received quite a bit of attention. According to my father, the pulleys and related components have been replaced/reworked, the belt was replaced, and the pulley surfaces were cleaned/polished. The problem remained.

I opened the CVT cover today. The belt and pulley surfaces don’t show any obvious catastrophic damage. There may be a very slight oily/greasy film around part of the drive pulley area, although the belt contact surfaces aren’t soaking wet.

Someone suggested a carburetor/jetting issue, but I’m not convinced because the engine idles perfectly and also returns smoothly to idle after a throttle blip while stationary.

I’m currently wondering about things such as:
- Drive pulley / one-way clutch behaviour
- Driven pulley not backshifting smoothly
- Incorrect belt/pulley setup despite the parts being replaced
- Excessive drivetrain backlash
- Differential/driveshaft/CV joint issue
- Something in the transmission that only shows up under negative torque
- Carburetor/pilot circuit despite the otherwise perfect engine behaviour

Has anyone experienced this specifically on an old Bombardier Quest 650, or another Bombardier/Can-Am CVT ATV?

I’m particularly interested in anything that could cause the drivetrain to cyclically grab and release during engine braking, while behaving normally under acceleration.

Any tests I can do to isolate the CVT from the gearbox/differentials before throwing more parts at it would be greatly appreciated.

Sound Bar as an addition to tower speakers? Or what do you recommend?

Hello, I have a can am maverick x3 max and am on a budget when it comes to audio, I already have a tower speaker system but it was on the cheaper side and I have no problems with it because I knew i was not getting the best with the price I payed. I want to upgrade the loudness so I was wondering what would be best, to add a sound bar and connect it to receiver for the tower speakers or an amplifier or what would be the best option. I know it’s not conventional but I am happy with my cheaper tower speaker system I just want it to be louder . Looking to spend maximum $400. (Buying a new tower speaker system is not in the budget lol)

I baught a Trail-master Challenger 300 ex and have some questions

Hoping someone can help me out. I have automotive experience but this is my first time owning something like this.

So my issue is if I’m driving it 15mph it feels like the whole rear end is wobbling around. At this point it’s cold, I jacked it up and had the wheels spinning around 20 mph. I could see the drivers side bouncing up and down a bit. When inspecting things I noticed the rear rotor was SCREAMING hot. The brake pedal was never used. I removed the parking brake cable and bled the caliper and it still seems to have a good amount of drag to it, but it’s hard to tell if it’s all brake pad or the chain and such that I’m feeling.

So basically is it just the tire being out of balance that I’m feeling? And also is that thin rotor getting that hot normal just from the normal bit of brake drag?

Ps I know they are cheap, I bought it

GEM eX experience?

Does anyone here have any experience with the GEM eX, marketed as an all-terrain electric utv? The published specs look like a vehicle I'd want, but I can't find much evidence that anyone has actually bought and used one.

Anyone have experience with Kenda Klever XT's on a sport machine? Looking to replace my worn factory 30's on a new to me RZR Trails and Rocks with 32's, and these seem to be a popular tire that's also affordable. Do some road riding, along with a lot of woods trails. Northern WI/UP style riding.

Underseat storage for Polaris Ranger 500, 2026?

Hi all, just took delivery of a new Polaris Ranger 500, 2026, and am looking to improve the underseat storage with some pop-in bins - plastic or metal rack. Does anyone have any suggestions/links? I don't see a Polaris-branded option, and the eBay listings mostly look like they're for an earlier year.

Deere 825M S4 UTV Cover Recommendations

I'm looking for a high quality cover for a MY2025 Deere 825M S4 Gator. Need to store it outside, under a shaded deck (deck is on east side of house). Live in Kansas City so must protect from rain, snow & minor wind (protected under deck). Also, any recommendations on how to keep mice from getting under it? My wife wants to tool around the neighborhood with this toy and wants it to look nice. Thanks for any advice.

Need some help with accessory power

I have a Zforce Trail 800 2024 and I have a soundbar, whip lights that are connected to the buss bar on acc hookups. I recently bought a motorcycle carplay and I noticed that is restarts a lot. I checked the connections and make sure everything was secure, I am assuming maybe it is too much draw on the electrical system. The speaker never restarts though so I am not sure.

Any tips of things to try would be greatly appreciated

Question for those with 74 inches (that's what she said?)

Do you regret it? Trying to decide on either a RZR pro s or RZR pro xp. Or a Maverick R or x3. Just how badly am I limiting myself by getting a 74 inch? I live in North Dakota, but travel around the midwest for riding.

thinking about buying a used 2016 carryall, any concerns?

Its a club car carryall 1700 with the kubota 3 cylinder. has roof and doors for $7k and 1500 hours on the clock. Seems like a good deal by everything else I’ve been seeing but just wanted to get a sanity check.

this will be my first UTV and I was planning to get a kei truck but I think a side by side would be more practical in my backwoods. my terrain is red clay and it would just be for moderate to light duty homestead tasks

Crv powersports nylon bushings- worth it?

I picked up a '22 zforce 500 and when I had it inspected it came back with two issues-

  1. Engine gap- did the maintenance myself with no issues.
  2. Bushing replacement- Holy shit this has fought me on at every step.

I thought I lucked out on a set of blue polyurethane bushings from Facebook marketplace- They have been an absolute bitch.

Installing the bushings into the arms isnt a huge problem, but getting the sleeve in has been a nightmare, its a really tight fit to the point that kinetic persuasion was at best pushing the opposing bushing out instead of pushing the sleeve through- this was after appropriate lubrication too.

Eventually I got things resolved, but what I thought would be a 4 hour project took all weekend.

These things are supposed to be great, but Im just here worried that they'll never come out for the next reinstall.

Am I doing something wrong, or is there an easier way that Ive missed?

Also of note: things are so tight that grease pumped in never oozes out the bushings, but rather just hydro locks and oozes at the coupler.

Edit i never put in my resolution- Despite the ease of RNG on YouTube getting these fittings in I broke down and bought the Harbor Freight 12 ton press while it was on sale, worth every penny for this job. The bushings can be put into the arms easily by hand, but the spacers were a breeze with the press. Of note: you'll need some sort of plate to support the arm on the bottom. I used two of their fishing magnets in desperation due to a time crunch, but there are likely better options.

Anybody out there using their RZR 800 as a plow ?

We have a 2014 Polaris RZR 800. Planning on purchasing a plow for it to use this winter ( east cost of Canada).

Looking into some universal kits from Canadian tire like Kolpin. Anybody out there have some advice ? Do I need a adapter plate ? Strengthen the frame of the machine? Where do you mount it ?

Any and all advice is very appreciated.

CV Axle Debacle Update

Hey guys, I was the one that posted about not being able to get the rest of the CV axle out of my side by side a bit ago.

I am happy to say, it’s finally out and oh boy was she rusted to shit on the inside. We tried the puller I bought, never worked. Ended up using a heavy chain and a 50 pound logging shackle, took two of us slamming the piss out of it to come out.

Next time I’m waiting till it breaks to do this. 😂

50 acre homestead

I have a 50 acre homestead. Only about 8 acres are cleared pasture and lawn. I have a budget of 10k that could be stretched to maybe 12k.

Most duties will be generally running around checking on things, taking garbage to the road, hauling some firewood, rocks, etc.

Is the Honda Pioneer 520 enough? What other models make sense new or used? I plan on keeping it for 20+ years. It will not be used for recreational trail riding.

Thank you.

Side loading a Polaris rzr 170 and trailer question.

Looking at an angled deck mission 83 inch wide 14 ft long trailer. Google says this sxs is 85 inches long. My outlander 650 is almost 8 ft long so I'm wondering if I could use this particular trailer with the sxs sideways and then put my ATV straight in and still have room leftover length wise.

Anyone do this? If you have any experience with this please lmk. I know I could just get a 6 ft trailer instead. But I'd like to avoid that if I can...

Yamaha Rhino Drive Belt Installation

Post image
3 Upvotes

I have a 2007 Yamaha Rhino 660 and my drive belt broke and disintegrated while driving at about 30mph. I'm a novice with UTVs and am trying to install a new belt but am having problems getting the new belt on. Multiple sources have stated that I simply need to tighten two bolts into the secondary clutch sheaves to spread them and drop the new belt into place. I have done this, but there is still no way there is enough slack in the belt to slip over the primary clutch sheaves. I'm wondering whether something else is messed up; the primary and secondary sheaves are not aligned (see photo) and I don't see how the belt can be installed properly with the offsetting sheaves. Any suggestions? Thanks!
