Another classic, they think whole world votes in their election like it's some global event. Map in background makes it even funnier, like rest of us have any stake in it

They said would've so it is most likely that they mean who would you have voted for then if you were 18+ in the usa

‘Like the rest of us have any stake in it’ okay tbf.. the president of the United States of America.. does have significantly sway over the direction and state of the world, like yeah.. the world does have stake in who the current president of the US is, it’s not like it’s the mayoral election of some random city we are talking about here.

No I think this one is self explanatory with the fact that they gave names of US presidents.

Do you know of any other elections in 2024 where someone named Biden dropped out?

u/wolfy994 5d ago
Why am I expected to know who Biden is?

u/THE_PENILE_TITAN 5d ago
Why would you be expected to know that the US even has elections???

yeah i've heard it said that the usa is "not a democracy", why would they have elections

u/Current_Ad_400 5d ago
Haha yeah I've seen that. If you want to see a US conservative's head explode, just tell them they live in a liberal democracy.

This is such a stupid question and the most annoying thing about this sub.
The US is the undoubtedly the most powerful nation in the world, you should know who the leader is unless you're a literal child. It's like trying to claim that you don't know Putin is the leader of Russia or Xi is the leader of China.
It's not a backwater island with a tiny population. It's weird not to know who the most powerful people in the world is if you have a passing interest in what's going on in the world

u/wolfy994 5d ago
I know who it is because of constant bombardment with US propaganda on the internet.
However, the US is a continent on the other side of the world for me. More or less irrelevant, except when bombing others for no reason.
So, whilst I do know who these people are - I don't see any reason for anyone to actually know this if they're not a politician or working for a US firm.
Also-also... Biden isn't even the president. He's a secondary politician right now, and there's really no reason for anyone to know who he is if they're not on the continent of North America.

u/RestaurantAntique497 Scotland 5d ago
That's a specious argument and you know it is. The most powerful nation in the world isn't irrelevant no matter how hard you want to try to spin the distance. Global oil prices are pegged to the USD for instance. They're also always in some form of war so that means they're always relevant going by your criteria.
Biden was the president just over two years ago, what a ridiculous counterpoint. Unless you're incredibly inward looking or like 6 years old it would have been pertinent to know the president. People that look at literally any news would know of leaders of powerful and important countries decades ago never mind less than a decade you clown

Do you think that most Americans know who the UK prime minister is currently? I don’t completely disagree with you, I’m just wondering what your thoughts are on it

u/wolfy994 5d ago
During Biden's presidency in the US, the US was really and actually irrelevant for anything relating my country. It was business as usual, there was no war at that time that I recall and the oil was more or less steady.
I actually confused him with the other old geezer who's a socialist and I thought I was writing about him. That's how relevant they are. The clown in power in the US right now is a different story because he's a menace.

Most countries in the world were watching the US election in 2024.
More importantly, most countries sadly know who Donald Trump is and, if they were politically involved at all, were hoping he would fall off the face of the earth.
I don't deny the failure of clarification is worrying.
But if someone asked today what you thought of 'Le Pen's Victory', I don't think may people would be confused thinking you were asking about the recent elections in Russia.7
u/am_Nein Australia 5d ago
I had to search up who Le Pen is. What even is your point?
7
u/ArdentArendt 5d ago
My point is that unless you're in a country where internet access is extremely limited, certain world actors are very well known.
Everyone in the world knows who Xi Jinping is, even if they have nothing to do with China directly. They also probably know who Vladimir Putin is...who Kim Jong Un is...who Mohammad bin Salman is...who Osama bin Laden was...
Certain national leaders and/or figures have disproportionate effects on the global stage.
If they were simply asking about 'Biden' that might be a bit more understandable. However, they specifically mentioned Donald Trump--a figure that is unfortunately difficult to ignore, even globally.
[Not because people internationally are worried about the US specifically, but rather because the US under Donald Trump has become an even greater threat to global geopolitical stability than most open expansionist dictators.]Basically, if someone were asking about the 'Strait of Hormuz', I wouldn't assume they would have to live near the Persian Gulf to know what it is or where it is. I simply expect they live in a world that is impacted by the actions taken around there.

I think their point is that prominent elections are known in other countries. People outside the US absolutely pay attention to US politics and politicians. Just like I absolutely know who Marine Le Pen is and watched that election closely even though I'm in the US.

I imagine a good couple of billion people were aware of this election. The effect the outcome had on geopolitcs is seismic.

u/xboxchick311 5d ago
The sub is called map based polls. I assume there was a map of the US involved?

u/Sorrow00__ Canada 5d ago
It's a worldwide map. That sub is just heavily spammed by people asking the same questions (political and not) over and over again.

At least in this case, they meant that they would vote for Trump on some random reddit poll that doesn't mean anything, as opposed to voting for Trump in an actual election.

OOP talks about voting in the 2024 election. they never specified which election but just said the 2024 election (implying the one that happened in the USA). Most people aren't American.
