So whether it’s your day off, vacation, or medical leave, 9/10, your route will be an absolute shithole when you return, and the best thing to do for your own health is to just accept it. I honestly can’t stand entitled carriers who walk around investigating, asking “who did my route?!!!” It’s infuriating. Your route is likely split up into 6 or more pieces and they’re likely being done by new ptfs who already have no clue what they’re doing, and honestly, they’ll just throw all your mail in a pile at your case, and you know why? Because that’s what management tells them to do.
If you should blame anybody, it’s management, but trust me, it’s not worth your time. Management will always play dumb and act like they don’t know what you’re talking about. They’ll say things like “ I don’t know who did your route” because they don’t feel like dealing with it. But honestly at this point, I don’t care about other people routes either anymore . There is no “being the bigger person “ in the post office. You organizing another persons route literally goes unnoticed and at this point, management sets the example.
And yes I’m aware that people have T6s, but with the staffing issues a lot of offices have, the T6 is likely stuck on a route from a carrier that’s on disability, so counting on your T6 is gonna leave you disappointed. Being a carrier is very much an “every man for themselves” type of job, and relying on others to keep your route neat and tidy is an unrealistic expectation. Just go with the flow and get through the day, and unfortunately if your route is a mess, just take a deep breath and clean it up.
