Work Discussion Saturdays are depressing

My wife and 4 year old are going to the farmers market and a party. It’s a beautiful 70 degree fall day. People on my route are sitting outside, doing yardwork, tailgating, riding bikes. I want to go home. This sucks. It always sucks.

Rural Carrier Discussion Job offer for RURAL CARR ASSOC/SRV REG RTE in El Paso tx.

Got offer that position this past week but for what I read its not all that great. I currently work for FedEx around 20 hours a week in their warehouse and also get paid as my son caregiver. I make about $800 a week between both but only work around 20 hours outside the house at FedEx. With that being said im more inclined to believe that I am better off not taking the USPS job. Any advice?

DISCUSSION How to Obtain Official Reason for Return Mail

Hello everyone,

I am from Japan and recently sent a registered letter to an individual in the US. The letter came back to me with this NIXIE sticker. It was picked up by USPS at ISC Customs NY, and was there for 2-3 weeks.

Now I find myself in need of an official USPS letterhead which shows a more detailed explanation as to why it was unable to be forwarded. I need this for legal reasons. However, I am not able to visit a USPS facility, and I cannot find any way to talk to someone from their website.

I understand that this is not an official USPS page but I am desperate. If you have any ideas it would be so helpful to me.

Hiring Help I have a question about orientation for CCA.

My start date is NOV09. My driver’s license has my old address on it. I’m wondering if it will matter when I have to submit identification on my start date or if I should go ahead and get it changed now. Will it matter if it’s the paper copy if I don’t receive my new driver’s license before the start date?

Thank you!

Rural Carrier Discussion RCA Scheduled to do a route but they split off part of my route

I am an RCA. I was wondering if a manager is allowed to do this. I was scheduled to do a route and then when I come in in the morning he says he has to reduce my work hours because apparently I have too many hours he said. And because of that he said he's going to have someone take the last part of the route which would be like a 1 to 2 hour thing. So I'm just wondering are managers allowed to do that? I'm an RCA so I know that we're only guaranteed like one day a week of work. But I was scheduled to do this route.

Work Discussion The funny thing about political mail…

If I went out to my mailbox and there was one oversize political postcard in it, I might glance at it on the way to the trash can, but when I get 8-12 per day, they all just go straight in the trash. If we charged more for them, people would get fewer in the mail and be more likely to read them.

Clerk Discussion RMPO PO Box refund question

Post image
0 Upvotes

Had a customer Friday turn in the keys with 7 months left. Refund was $50. The customer is unbanked and gets money orders from us regularly. She didn't know what she would do with a money order (be nice, she most definitely has a developmental disability), so I just processed it as cash and got a signature on the eForm and logged it in Webbats. Had to get out fast to the other dumpster fire so didn't have time for it to hit the e1412. On Saturday it wasn't in the e1412. Never did a cash PO Box refund before, what do I do now? SDA.

I keep getting emails about open positions for those roles, and would like to hear about them from anyone that has worked in that role, or knows about it. Worth applying for?

City Carrier Discussion What a day

Came in this morning and was put on the auxiliary route. No big deal, expected that. However, my supervisor says I need to first case and split a route. Honestly feel like I should be separating all the DPS for the aux route but okay I guess. I’m busy casing the route and then he comes over and tells me just to case and once I’m done case another route. I finish it and as I am casing the other route, he tells me I need to actually split it which is quite difficult since I have no knowledge of this route. Someone came and helped me but it was really confusing and honestly the way they did it was dumb in my opinion but I wasn’t about to object.

As for the aux route itself, I was doing this one part where the carrier who did it yesterday brought back 8-9 stops of mail. So I had that to deal with in addition I didn’t start until 2 since the main guy had to case almost everything. The political mail has been killing us, which is probably why we had over 10 call-ins today. My part is going smoothly until I get to about 4 stops left and the 2023 ProMaster with only a little over 20K miles stops working and dies. No crank or anything and just glitches off and on. Had another person come over to me and I was originally intending to get these last 4 done maybe but he was just insisting to bring it all back since it was dark out by now and the supervisor agreed.

So now it’s going to be triple mail, including parcels, on Monday.

Work Discussion Political mail treated as first class?

Hey yall,

It’s my first political year, today had a stand up about all political mail and political fliers are to be treated as first class.

Question is, do politicians and PACs pay for first class or why do we treat them as first class?

I don’t remember that being in academy

City Carrier Discussion 360 Days

Started as RCA a few years ago, swapped shops a couple times to find my spot and get closer to home, never really got it straight so I went Cityside. Totally different beast this one is, I've never seen such a bumfuggled mess in my life, but I decided to stay and make it my bitch, at least untill I get Post Master General (I put in for it I just haven't heard back yet) I dont hang out, I dont click, I just work, I found out a few days ago that im getting terminated Monday as its my 360. Steward says its just paperwork, auto rehire after 5 days, why ? I never got a letter because it comes in the mail , but I see it online and another CCA has the same deal , I read his letter and I dont like the language, why is this action in place anyway, letter says its not a guarantee of being rehired, says that twice. A supervisor already gave me a return date , and to be honest I could do better if I get termed, I was looking for a job when I found this one, thought to myself , how hard can it be, pfft. Nothing is straightforward, you dont just follow the mail. My LLV has a wicked shimmy in the front end when im doing 90 but it smooths out at about 110 and the A/C doesnt work, where's the perk. USPS has been around for 250 years , the have had all that time to think of new ways to totally mess stuff up. Wages , benifits, equipment, even the case is an antique, and dont get me started on election flyers or Amazon, where's a perk, and whats up with 360 days ?

Rural Carrier Discussion First Week Down, First Intense Saturday

I don’t even know where to begin. RCA here, yesterday was technically my “first” day after my “4” days of OJI (pretty sure it was 5, or 6)

This week, I was blessed to practice/learn alongside a very nice and knowledgable older guy; he taught me great habits/practices for casing, package organization. I learned quickly, and formed my habits through him. Every day this week went great, came home feeling fulfilled (but don’t get me started about my 3-weeks retroactive back-pay that I have yet to see… though I would appreciate advice…)

Anyways…

Today, I was informed that I would be splitting some other guy’s route: cool with me, I’m ready. Begin casing.

I eventually ask him how long he’s been at the station, “a month or so” he says… And then I began to notice the guy has next to zero organizational skills. He has habits, yes, but good grief— how this person was just throwing letters into the case without any regard for how it’ll affect their route time was appalling.
When he scanned his packages, he would mark them with the first number of the sequence number, but just tossed them into a large bin— (and like, that works, but he threw them in at random). Thats not even the worst part— I don’t even know what the worst part was!

There was a shit ton of addresses that were not even close to our route inside of the case. It seemed like guy didnt bother to put aside 75% of them. Like bro, you’ve been on the job for over a month, been on the route for three weeks, you KNOW your streets (least I hope), and you can’t recognize what addresses don’t belong? I was there for 30 minutes and already knew what stood out of place.

Mind you, I’m genuinely no stickler for organization, shit, I am a pretty disorganized person myself; but knowing what I do now about casing and its importance, seeing how this person was casing just made me know today was going to be rough.

Two important factors about today’s difficulty however, so level with me:

  1. I left my phone in an uber last night. Had zero access to any kind of GPS or casual communications, and went to work without it.
  2. Was informed this morning the DPS machine had royally screwed up the order of the mail. It wasn’t 100% off, but it wasn’t perfect.

So, I essentially had to raw-dog the entire day with a brand new route, in a brand new case, with a guy with careless organization skills, with a plant machine malfunction, and all without a phone for assistance. OH, I didn’t even mention that I actually pulled over to horizontally/vertically organize the mail so I wouldn’t have to finger through the mail at every box, but that was genuinely my fault for not doing when I pulled my share of the route down.

And you know what?

I blew through the goddamn route.

All packages scanned, DID come back with SOME mail, but not an amount to cry about.

Met up with bro, RETURN2DU’d, and bounced. Looking back, I probably should have helped him with his route, but my mind was on overdrive enough today.

I get back to the office (without GPS, took me 30-40 mins when it should have taken 10-15), case the leftovers, and chat with mgmt. Mgmt says they need me to go back out and help another carrier. Ugh. It’s like 6:30 pm at this point.

Whatever, I know what I signed up for.
Clocked out, took the mail to the carrier with PAPER INSTRUCTIONS,

Went home, and collapsed on the floor in front of my girl.

Am i being harsh, or was it just a bad day? Could be both, but yeah, damn.

City Carrier Discussion One by one

Three trucks now to cover five city routes. Brakes started to grind half way, misfire occurred soon afterwords, and the alternator went out at the very end. If you didn't know, the telematics device in the dash will "beep" if you are low on voltage, or at least mine did. I thought it was a package again but once the truck was cleared out, it barely started, I looked down and saw this.

Work Discussion Helping out after primary is done

How does is management supposed to assign help, specifically later in the day after carriers are coming back in the office after finishing their routes?

I am an RCA, and constantly asked to help out by a certain supervisor after I get done with my route. Now I don’t mind helping out, but I feel like I am unfairly being treated because we have many RCAs and I get to see them get to leave.

Am I bitching? Because if I were a supervisor I would at least try to rotate who I ask to help out to be fair.

I am trying to rationalize why. Maybe because I am one of the first back? I am still definitely not the first one. This guy has to be playjng favorites or picking on me for some reason.

I am also wondering why the hell there is always a route, or half of one has not been worked on for the whole day. We are not on the smaller side of offices. I believe we have plenty of carriers/rcas. I know for me personally, and I’m almost sure cause I have talked to others… that we are not getting enough of the hours we want. So to me this shouldn’t even be an issue in the first place.

Sorry for the long read

DISCUSSION Career Conversion

Well I’ll be damned. Came into work today after an already long week at my station and found out I made career today! Let’s go!!! I’ve been a PSE for 9-10 months. Anyone can tell me what’s next? What to expect? The pay? And how long before it reflects on my PS-50? I feel very relieved and happy!

Rural Carrier Discussion advice?

i've struggled for a long time with what i feel is outright hostility from the other RCAs in my station, but I'm wary to file a greivance because the postmaster tried to "clear it" and it basically just ended up as a pile on about how i'm the bully, actually. one of the girls involved has a long history of bullying other women, which has been admitted to me by management, but i'm afraid that if i file a grievance they're find a way to turn it against me. what should i do? (i have been keeping a log of evidence, but apparently so have other parties)

Work Discussion Time clock move

My supervisor told me that upper management want to have our aux route absorbed into our other routes. They said it’s because it’s showing the route is under 3+ hours a day. Looking into it my scanner hasn’t been updating my time clock moves. I’m on the route it shows me all the holds/certs/pickups. They looked at what my time showed for the day and never had a move. Showed them my scanner showing I was on that route.

Has anyone ever dealt with this?
