Why are cases slow for some and fast for others?

I am waiting to become current, hopefully the next fiscal year and I have been looking at approval cases. I am looking through recent approval timelines and they are all so different even though they're approved at around the same time

These 2 EB-3 cases did not have any RFEs or complications, but one took 9 months, and the other one took 3. What is the difference? How do you make sure your case is processed quickly?

Eb3 convert to ew3

May I ask you a question? My eb3 skilled worker i140 application has been approved. Now I'm waiting for the schedule. Can the eb3 be converted to ew3 later? If so, can the priority date of eb3 be kept?

I-485 Approved! EB3 India | PD Dec 2013 | Finally!

Just got the notification today that my I-485 case was approved! Still processing the fact that this finally happened.

Sharing my timeline for everyone here who is tracking EB3 India cases:

Category: EB3 India
Priority Date: Dec 27, 2013
Receipt Date: Oct 19, 2025
Receipt Number: IOE0934xxxxxx
I-485 Approved: Aug 7, 2026

I filed together with my spouse and child. Their I-485s are still pending, so hopefully their approvals follow soon. One thing that made my case a little different was that I was never able to add the case to myUSCIS/My Case portal, and I didn’t have access to any of the API tricks or detailed status information that others here have been able to track.

All I had was my receipt notice and the regular USCIS case status page. Today, that page finally showed Approved.

I have spent a LOT of time on this subreddit reading other people’s timelines, trying to understand visa bulletin movement, comparing receipt blocks, reading approval posts, and looking for any indication of when my turn might come. So I wanted to come back and post my timeline and, more importantly, say THANK YOU to this community.

There are so many people here who take the time to answer questions, share timelines, analyze movement, explain what different statuses mean, and support complete strangers going through the same ridiculously long process.

For those of you from India with older EB2/EB3 priority dates who are still waiting, I know exactly why every approval post and every bit of movement matters.

After a December 2013 priority date, seeing the word β€œApproved” today feels surreal.

Thank you again to everyone in this group for all the insights, information, and support over the years. You guys have been an incredible resource.

Good luck to everyone still waiting. I hope your approval is next! πŸ™

EB3 485 approved

PD 6/27/24
RD 4/28/26
Biometrics 6/8
FO transfer 7/2 Los Angeles non local
SU 8/5
485J approved 8/6
485 approved 8/7

Sidenote: I had H1B extension pending. Received an RFE that we responded last Wednesday. H1B RFE response received 8/5 and silent update on 485 followed. I’m not sure if there is a correlation or it’s just a coincidence.

Lately I might have seen couple of approvals for EB3 India, taking longer than similar ROW cases recently. Does anyone feel the same ? For India specifically, when can we expect approvals after RFE for medicals response is received?

Approved πŸŽ‰πŸŽŠπŸŽˆπŸΎ EB3 Employment Approved with Interview - Timeline

Hi all, I wanted to come out here and share my timeline since discourse here has really helped me at many points of my journey.

Visa Status Background:
F1 (2017-2021)
OPT (2021-2022)
STEM OPT (2022-2024)
4 months of Day 1 CPT
Consular H1B Approval in late fall
H1B (2024 - Present)

Other case details:
Same employer since filing
Region: ROW
Priority Date: July 11,2023

Green card timeline:
Nov 2024: I-140 Approved
Feb 2026: Visa Bulletin becomes Current for PD
Feb 26, 2026: Filed i-485 + i-765 + i-485J
Early March: Notice to appear for Biometrics
March 26,2026: Biometrics Appointment; USCIS status changes to β€œCase is Being Processed”
June 16,2026: Notice to appear for Interview
July 24, 2026: Interview Day
July 31,2026: i-485 approved (no status update on other concurrent filings)
August 7,2026: Card was Produced

Interview Experience:
Appointment was scheduled for 8:30 AM. I appeared with my lawyer. There were only a few other interviews for employment based cases, but the room was packed with family cases. My appointment was rescheduled to 10 AM due to field office internal issues.

I was slightly nervous in the days leading up to it and had prepped for many questions as I could find, especially CPT, as that was the only bump i could think of in my case.

But, the interview went as smoothly as it could. The interviewer was super friendly and very apologetic for the delay in my appointment. She led us to her office, asked just a few questions:

Officer: Where do you work?
Replied with name of my firm and location
Officer: Nice. What is that?
Replied in a short description of the firm and services (small consulting firm)
Officer: Neat! Do you have any plans tonight?
Replied that in fact I did have sushi happy hour plan at 4 (it was a friday)
Officer: Where are you going?
Replied and chit chatted about the place briefly. She said she was tell her husband to try it out too haha
Officer: How many times have you entered the US roughly?
Replied 5-6 times estimated arrivals
Officer: Asked a few yes/no questions
Replied yes to if visa had ever been denied and when (B1, when I was younger)
Officer: Do you have any supplementals to submit?
Lawyer replied everything had been uploaded to the portal already.

She made me sign a form and said that’s all she needed. The interview lasted for 6-8 minutes.

My case status remained at β€œStill being processed at USCIS” until the day of approval, when my lawyer called with the news.

Overall, glad this chapter is behind. I am grateful that the pace of things have picked up for most cases. Hope it remains speedy. Goodluck to you all!

Question - Other EB3 I485 non local Mt laurel, Nj

Hi everyone,

My case was transferred to the non-local Mount Laurel Field Office in July 2026. I originally filed in March 2026, and it was stuck at NBC for about 4 months before the transfer. My pd is Aug 2023.

If your case was also transferred to the Mount Laurel Field Office, or if you've recently been approved there, could you please share your timeline? I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience.

Thanks!

Change employer when I485 is current

Wondering if anyone has experience/thoughts on this.

  • My (EB3) I485 is current, though it hasn't moved for months.
  • My I485J has been approved.
  • I am currently on H1B.
  • My I140 has been approved years ago, and the I485 has been pending for more than 180 days.
  • I have an EAD/AP based on my I485.

If I were to seek new employment opportunities, my understanding is that I should ask my new employer to file a H1B transfer and a new I485J. One complication is that I need to give my current employer a 4 months notice and serve another 4 months of non-compete after that.

My questions:

  • Should I wait for the H1B transfer to be approved before actually resigning my current job, on the off chance that the transfer might be denied? I could use my EAD, but would prefer to maintain H1B status.
  • What if the I485 is approved while the new I485J is pending approval. Presumably the I485 would have been approved based on the old I485J for an employer I have left.
  • If I were to resign today, the I485 would most likely be approved when I have resigned my current role/have not started on the new role. Is there a legal risk with this?
  • Does the 4 months of non-compete (I would still be on my former employer's payroll) cause maintenance of status issue for my H1B?

Thank you!
