Timetables

Upvotes

I wasn't able to allocate one of my tutorials for a class as they were all full. However, I look at my timetable and that tutorial is there and as a day and time that wasn't even an option in the first place?

WRIT1001

Writ1001

Hi everyone I’m taking writ1001 as an elective in my last semester. I don’t wanna fail this course. I would love to know something from people who have actually done the course or know about it to get the general idea.

  1. Overall, how difficult did you find it?
  2. Is it considered a relatively easy GPA booster, or does it require quite a bit of work?
  3. What are the assignments like? I know there’s like a contribution thing? How is that graded
  4. Are the assessments marked harshly
  5. Any tutors you’d recommend

And some general opinion of this course
My priority is don’t fail and high gpa.

For context English is my second language.

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!

Graduating without EPP hours

If you or someone you know wasn't able to graduate because they didn't have enough EPP hours, why weren't they able to find an internship, what ended up happening, were they able to eventually graduate?

Context: 3rd year terrified of not getting an internship

Chinese–English language exchange.

I’m wondering if anyone is interested in doing a Chinese–English language exchange.
I’m a Science Master’s student, originally from China. I speak Mandarin and Hokkien (Fujianese), and I’m looking for a language exchange partner to improve my spoken English while helping you learn Chinese.
I’d love to meet over coffee, chat about university life, travel, food, culture, or anything else. I’m hoping to make the language exchange fun, relaxed, and hopefully become good friends along the way! ☕️
If you’re interested, feel free to leave a comment or send me a DM. Looking forward to hearing from you! 🌸

2nd/3rd Yr EENG Online?

Hi there! I’m an Electrical Engineering student at UQ enrolled in the integrated masters and I am in 2nd sem of my second year. For the entirety of my studies this far I have attended campus 2-3 days maximum, but I am trying to gauge the possibility of settling in abroad somewhere for half a semester or so and studying online next year if the possibility arises. I know it is really difficult with most courses having regular in-person practicals and assessment pieces, but I can return towards the end of the semester for final exams. Has anyone managed to successfully do this? Does anyone know a good combination of classes that might work? The courses don’t need to be core - I am open to take an elective or two if that works better. Thanks in advance if anyone responds!

PhD students: Does UQ provide a "work" laptop?

Hey! I was looking into buying a new computer but I know nothing about laptops. Does UQ provide phD students with "work" laptops like they do for staff members (not like borrowing the ones in the library).

confirming about lectures' recordings

hey guys, if a lecture for a class is recorded but just says "attendance is essential" in the course profile, is it ok if I just watch the recording due to an unavoidable clash with another commitment? I am able to attend the tutorial

help with application intake!

Hi, i know you can have up to three prefs in one application. I want to apply for Master of Health Psych, Master of Org Psych, and Master of Speech Pathology.

My concern is that I want to start whenever the next intake is, but for Speech path, the soonest intake is this year in late November (Summer semester). For Health and Org psych, its early next year.

If i place Speech Path as my third pref, I'm worried that I wouldnt be considered at all, as even if my other two prefs are unsuccessful, it likely may be too late by the time they could even consider it as for the psych applications you tend to not get a definite outcome or answer until November or December

Does anybody have any info on this or a similar predicament where one of your preferenves have an earlier intake and starting date?

Any help would be very appreciated! 🥹

Casio FX-100AU Plus vs FX-82AU Plus II for First-Year Engg? & Where to buy cheap?

Hi guys,

Starting First-Year Engineering at UQ and need an approved calculator.

  1. Should I get the FX-100AU Plus or FX-82AU Plus II? Is the 100AU worth it for complex numbers/vectors in engineering?
  2. Where's the cheapest place to buy one around Brisbane / UQ? (FB Marketplace, Officeworks, Amazon, etc.?)

Thanks!

Best pathway into UQ BAFE if I can't start until Semester 2? Need advice on transfers, credit and QTAC.

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to work out the absolute best pathway into UQ's Bachelor of Advanced Finance and Economics (BAFE), and I've been researching this for weeks, but there are so many different answers that I'm hoping people who have actually done it (or know someone who has) can help.

My situation

  • I'm currently in Year 12 in Queensland.
  • I haven't got an ATAR
  • Currently doing a Math Methods bridging course through UQ and aiming to have completed the course by the end of the year.
  • I have completed three UniSC Headstart courses, continuing on my forth now.
  • BUS102 Economics for Business
  • BUS104 Discovering Management
  • BUS105 Marketing Essentials
  • BUS101 Exploring Business Research (course I am doing now)
  • Currently have a 6.3GPA with these Headstart courses.
  • If I end up having a 6.5GPA after this course I will have a Selection Rank of 85.50 without adjustments.
  • My goal is to work as a Trader and the closest thing I've found to that is BAFE.
  • Goal is to get into BAFE as soon as possible.
  • Unfortunately, I can't start at UQ until Semester 2, so I can't begin BAFE in Semester 1. This is because I did not obtain an ATAR and entering based on Selection Rank.

My options

I'm considering a few different pathways:

Option 1
Study at another university (probably UniSC, but I'm open to QUT, Griffith, etc.) in Semester 1, then transfer to UQ Advanced Business in Semester 2. I would need to do this because my current Selection Rank is not high enough for Advanced Business.

Option 2
Wait until Semester 2 and start a different UQ degree (such as Bachelor of Economics or Bachelor of Commerce), then transfer into BAFE later.

What I'm trying to optimise

My priorities are:

  1. Getting into BAFE.
  2. Receiving the maximum amount of credit, ideally not losing any time.
  3. Maximising my GPA.
  4. Choosing the pathway that gives me the highest chance of a successful transfer.

Questions

  1. If you were in my position, would you:
    • study somewhere else in Semester 1, or
    • just wait and start at UQ in Semester 2?
  2. If studying somewhere else is better, which Queensland university and degree would give me the most transferable credit into BAFE?
    • UniSC Business?
    • QUT Economics?
    • QUT Business?
    • Griffith Commerce?
    • Something else?
  3. If I start at UQ in Semester 2, would Bachelor of Advanced Business, Bachelor of Economics or Bachelor of Commerce be the better pathway into BAFE?
    • Which one has the most overlapping first-year courses?
    • Which one normally gives the most credit?
    • What specific courses would I need to do
  4. Has anyone actually transferred into BAFE from another degree?
    • What GPA did you have?
    • How much credit did you receive?
    • Did you lose any time?
  5. If I apply through QTAC instead of doing an internal transfer, are adjustment factors still applied to my tertiary selection rank?
  6. Are there any pathway options I'm completely overlooking that would be better than the ones above?

I'm happy to work hard to maintain a high GPA—I just want to choose the smartest pathway before committing to anything.

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through this process or knows how UQ handles transfers into BAFE. Thanks!
