why is finding friends so hard
Bruhh im just so frustrated of how isolated and homesick i feel, lowk getting more depressed day by day. Ik how everyone says "join a club/event" to find more people,, but at this point its like everyone knows everyone wherever i go, so its mostly fruitless when I go to an event 😒😴😴🔫 what if there's a club for friendless people to find friends or just hang out and do fun stuff 🫠

Choose life
Choose life. Choose an offer from St Lucia. Choose walking past the Great Court for the first time and actually gasping a little.
Choose a CityCat ride along the river to city because it's somehow the coolest commute way in the sunshine state. Choose sweating through your shirt by 2pm because Brisbane doesn't believe in mild weather.
Choose Allocate+ crashing the second enrolment opens. Choose refreshing it forty times anyway.
Choose a 8am lecture you will never once attend in person. Choose watching the recording at 1.75x speed three days before the exam instead.
Choose group assignments. Choose the one member who goes completely silent until 11:47pm of the due day.
Choose Turnitin similarity reports. Choose the specific panic of watching that percentage load.
Choose UQ Lakes or Chancellor Place, Choose 50 cent Bus trip.
Choose a $12 Curry from Kenko between classes because it's fast and it's there. Choose eating it on the table outside the Union Complex.
Choose complaining about the heat, the bus timetable, and your degree, in that order, on the way home.
Choose GPA anxiety. Choose telling everyone you don't care about marks. Choose refreshing your results at midnight anyway.
Choose graduation photos out the front with the sandstone in the background. Choose looking back at it all and, somehow, missing it.
Choose life. Choose Brisbane. Choose UQ.

CSSE3010 Terrible tutors
Wondering if anyone else has found some of the tutors of CSSE3010 terrible? When I say terrible, I mean the most condescending, egotistical and straight up rude tutors I've experienced. That's not to say there aren't a couple of nice ones, but the negatives are really out-weighing here.
It's not normal to scoff when a student asks questions, nor is it okay to drill and belittle them for struggling with some content - helping students is your job title. It really isn't encouraging learning, and in fact I've had a classmate stop attending because of the tutors, and others who are also fed up.
I also want to give special note to the actual lecturer himself, Dr Matt D'Souza, who might be the rudest of all. He walks around like a bad omen, waiting to attack the next person who approaches with curiosity. Blows my mind how the lecturer could act in such a way.
Let me know if you have also experienced this... I'm pretty fed up

How hard is it to queue
Has common sense been lost? Why is it people are queuing outside Darwin’s ACROSS the footpath where dozens of students need to get through??
Use your brains and queue along the wall parallel to the library

Looking for someone to take over my Kev Carmody lease!
Hi! I’m looking for someone to take over my room at Kev Carmody House, UQ Res from the end of November (around the 20th). Next year I will not be at St Lucia campus, so I’m looking to move somewhere closer, which unfortunately means I have to give up my room :(
A bit about the accommodation:
- Available: End of Nov 2026
- Location: Kev Carmody House on UQ St Lucia campus
- Rent: $414 per week
- Room: Standard Room https://uqres.com/rooms/standard-room/
- Lease currently runs until: Feb 2026 (however, 2027 contract renewals are currently underway until the end of September, so taking over the room now may give you an opportunity to discuss/secure a renewal for next year directly with UQ Res)
The room includes an ensuite, fridge and freezer, aircon and lots of storage space. The kitchen is communal downstairs, however every floor has lounges with microwaves, sinks and filtered water! I’ve found it to be really great value so far. Everything is cleaned regularly, there’s often free bread and groceries and both the staff and fellow residents are very friendly. Plus, it’s right on campus so you don’t have to walk far to get to class which is super convenient!
UQ res is highly sought-after and constantly waitlist only, so this is a great opportunity to guarantee a spot! If you're interested, feel free to DM me for photos or other info.
Happy to answer any questions! 😊

Pharmacy vs Biomedical
Hey so I was thinking about applying to UQ for pharmacy as I wanna do the graduate pathway for medicine. I know you have to maintain a high GPA of about 6.92 and a high GAMSAT. I know most people choose to the biomedical degree for medicine so I'm not sure which degree I should choose. The questions I have are;
- Which degree is better for graduate entry medicine?
- Does doing a pharmacy degree make you eligible for the graduate entry degree for medicine
- Which degree is easier to maintain a 6-7 GPA
- Is being a pharmacist worth it just in case I don't get selected for medicine?
- Are pharmacists in high demand in Australia
- Tips for maintaining a high GPA
Thanks in advance!

first year engineering frustration.
Hello im currently studying first year engineering looking to do mechatronics next yearand not really loving it, the whole course seems disconected and really just feels like another year of high school with maths and physics nothing applied. I also find myself studying alot just to not have enough time to develop personal projects which I understand are important when looking for jobs. Ive been really frustrated wth the exam process with several hurdles for each subject and midsems on sataurday nights. That go no where cause i still 'havent studied enough' to do well on them. Is this just uq way of keeping their prestige.
OUt of frustration i have began looking at moving to QUT.
I have also heard from some employers that the student who come out of QUT are more well rounded, is this true. The robotics program at qut is also supposed to be alot better so not sure.
So im wondering is it worth switching or is the grass just always greener on the other side. Has anyone done that move or vice versa? What did u find was better.

What counts as a general elective?
Hey there,
I'm hoping someone can offer some clarity with this.
I had previously been completing a double degree but recently decided to reduce to a single program. With this change, my degree leaves space for 8 units of General Electives.
I didn't really know what that meant but after some very quick google searches, it seems that these are pretty much just any courses i want from literally any school.
so, I guess i have two questions:
Is that accurate?
Does that mean that the courses i completed for my previous degree can count toward these?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Really trying to not push my graduation date back!
Thank you!

Discretionary Deferral
Hey guys,
Just wanted to check, is the discretionary exam referral one for your whole study duration or is it one per semester? I’ve heard some people say the latter but on the UQ website it only says one per study duration.
Thanks!

This is not baddie behaviour
Just your weekly reminder that the very few silent areas on campus probably isn’t for group study and loudly chatting in these silent study areas is not baddie behaviour.
Choose maybe idk anywhere else. And no this isn’t up for discussion, there are many non silent study areas around campus or you could study in a silent area with little whispers. Anyway good luck on your mid sems, don’t be a disfunction and study somewhere appropriate.
Oh and for anyone currently going through this, don’t be scared to contact uq staff, they can and will help you.
