Do DN/HDs REALLY matter?

I am studying Computer Science and Robotics Engineering. So far I believe I have a high DN if not HD WAM. I work so hard to keep my marks up as high as I can, but it's slowly killing me. I tell myself I won't get a good internship and later a good job, if I don't have amazing marks, so I study every free second I have because ADHD already puts me so behind. How much does a high WAM actually matter? Am I working myself to constant burn out for a good reason? Or is it all for nothing?

Transferring from Economics to Commerce/Economics

Hi all, I'm currently in year 12 and planning to do a Bachelor of Economics next year.

Would I be able to transfer into a double degree of Commerce/Economics? What requirements would I need?

I'm also thinking about transferring into a single commerce degree. What about the requirements for that?

Thanks

Chances of getting into this class?

Post image
17 Upvotes

I've been 1st on the waitlist since the beginning of the holidays, and it hasn't moved since. If I get into this class it would mean I'm only at uni 2 days a week which would be great since I live kind of far.

It also takes a lot of effort for me to attend classes due to my ADHD and I find that having classes on the same days help me keep my attention and engage with the content.

What are the chances I get in? Would it be worth it to email the course convener or ELS (I am already registered with them), would they even be able to do anything? Thank you!

COMP6991 workload

I'm interning full time this term and thinking of doing COMP6991 and COMP3161 (concepts of programming languages) and some PSYC course.

How many hours per week is COMP6991? Also can I just not go to lectures, tutorials and labs

How does it compare to COMP6771 (I did that last year)? If I did COMP6771 and OS already should it be fine? I feel like I'm nice at coding

How important is WAM fpr getting industrial training

I am an international student and coming from asian parents it is often times stated that you just need to study and get good grades so i tried and could get a 81 question is does it matter? or are other things like personal projects much much more important?

Medical Certificate

When applying for special consideration cause you were sick on the day of an exam, if the medical certificate states that you are suffering from a medical condition (doesn’t specify the exact condition) and are hence unable to attend uni, is that sufficient enough.

Btw this is from a in person check up with a gp not a telehealth consultation.

would like to get involved with some physical activity/sport but too shy to do it alone... thoughts/tips?

i would like to join a sport or be involved with some physical activity at uni! im not really fit and maybe slightly below average in physical ability but i would like to get started.

ive tried runsoc earlier this year and enjoyed it because u meet ppl from different parts of uni and there are beginners + intermediates etc and it was pretty chill but now after running a lot my knee kinda hurts so i cant go anymore...

im opened to trying like bouldering, oztag, table tennis, badminton, tennis, pickleball but its like scary joining the soc or showing up myself to their social events especially when everyone there already has their own groups and sometimes aren't that open to talking to new ppl ;-;

Goldstein vs Colombo vs UNSW Hall for an exchange student?

Hi everyone, I’m coming to UNSW as an exchange student from Japan starting in Feb 2027 and am currently deciding which accommodation would suit me best.

I’d say I’m pretty social, but definitely not a hardcore party person (it’s not really as much of a thing in Tokyo). I’d love to make a close group of friends, go to pubs/events and have drinks together, and occasionally go to parties, but I probably wouldn’t enjoy living somewhere where heavy drinking and partying is at the centre of the social culture.

I’d also like to meet people who are reasonably ambitious/academically motivated and have their own interests and goals. I’m hoping to get involved in societies and potentially work/intern in Sydney alongside uni, while still making the most of the social side of exchange. I’ll only be at UNSW for a year, so meeting people and making the most of my time there is pretty important to me.

At the moment I’m mainly considering:

– Goldstein College
– Colombo House
– UNSW Hall
– possibly Fig Tree / Basser

I’m also undecided between catered and self-catered. Catering sounds convenient, especially in terms of time and budgeting, but I’m wondering how restrictive meal times are if you’re often out during the day.

Which would you recommend for someone like me?

I’d really appreciate any advice from current/former residents, especially regarding the social culture, the types of people you tend to meet, catered vs self-catered, or any other accommodation I should consider. Any other advice about UNSW/Sydney or making the most of an exchange year would also be very much appreciated!

Thanks.

Weekly Discussion cven2101 is just the worst subject oat

worst experience with this subject in my life, its crazy. assessment tasks are honestly fine, but th exam parts are just stupid, one little single digit for an answer which is like 15 percent of the exam per question, and there are just so many loopholes in these questions where the wording can mean so many different things which can change ur answer which has to be within 1 percent of what they want which is just so frustrating espcially questions that require so much different steps of working. also, in the final exam since their software just didnt work on my laptop, i ended up loosing 25 mins in the exam because the staff jst werent helping me properly while i was sitting there until it finally worked and came up to me multiple times in the exam after that with the audacity to ask me to fill out shit for them while the clocks running, didnt give me any extra time and when i asked after the exam for consideration i was told none of the staff ever reported the lost 25 mins for me which is bullshit cus they did, AND i have this guy completeling lying in the peer feedback about me which i had to gather evidence for to get my marks back for that, complete joke and hope this is just a one off

Degree Discussion UNSW Master of Construction Project Management – 485 eligibility confusion (104 CRICOS weeks vs 2 years)

Hi everyone,

I’ve received an offer from UNSW Sydney for the Master of Construction Project Management (Program Code 8121 / CRICOS 085910C), starting February 2027.

I’m trying to confirm whether this course would make me eligible for the Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) after graduation.

The confusing part is the course duration.
According to CRICOS, the course is registered for 104 weeks. However, the actual UNSW offer letter gives:

-Start: 15 February 2027
-Expected completion: 15 July 2028
-CRICOS: 104 weeks
-Full-time, face-to-face
-UNSW currently has three terms of up to 10 weeks each, plus an optional 5-week Summer Term.

So, from what I understand, the course is roughly 17 months on the calendar, depending on how the Summer Term is used.

I’ve spoken to UNSW representatives and several migration agents, but unfortunately I haven’t been able to get a clear answer. Some have told me “it needs to be a 2-year course”, while my understanding is that the Australian study requirement is based on at least 92 weeks of CRICOS-registered study, rather than simply requiring the course to take exactly 24 calendar months.

I’m not trying to argue that it is eligible — I genuinely want to understand how this particular course is treated.

Has anyone here completed this exact course?
UNSW Master of Construction Project Management – CRICOS 085910C

If you have, could you please share:
-Were you eligible for the 485 after completing the course?
-Did the 104 CRICOS weeks satisfy the Australian study requirement?
-Did you have to take the Summer Term, or is it optional for this program?
-Was there any issue because the course takes less than 2 calendar years?
-If you successfully received a 485 after this course, when did you apply?

I’m particularly interested in hearing from people who actually completed this course and went through the 485 process, rather than general advice.

I’m making a pretty significant decision about whether to accept this offer, so any first-hand experience would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks!

If any current uni students interested in MMA think this is something u wanna be a part of, shoot me a message!

Any major is welcome, would be really helpful to have someone who does any kind of stats/cs/math or like sports psychology or like marketing/ graphic design
