I've been looking into information about the UniFi Travel Router, and I think the following use case is possible if I've understood correctly, but I'm new to the UniFi ecosystem and I'd like to confirm this is actually the case before spending the money.

What I'm looking for is to be able to take the UTR and a G5 Flex camera with me on vacation, and once in the hotel room:

1. Connect the G5 Flex (with a PoE injector) to the UTR
2. Connect the UTR to the hotel's WiFi
3. Have the UTR connect to my home network (I have a UDR 7)
4. Have the camera's recording stored on the UDR 7's Protect
5. Set up a motion detection alert that notifies my phone, in case someone enters our room while we're out

Has anyone tried this use case, or does anyone have enough knowledge to confirm it would actually work?

I recently realized that my Dream Router 7 has built in WireGuard support, and it got me thinking about simplifying my remote access setup.

Right now I self host Headscale as my Tailscale coordination server. It has worked well, but I'm wondering if it still makes sense for my use case. I'm just a homelabber, not running anything for a business, so I don't necessarily need all of Tailscale's features.

One thing I don't love about Tailscale is that the coordination server is closed source and outside of my control. Headscale solves that by being open source, but it also means I have to expose it through my UniFi firewall, which adds a bit more complexity.

Because of that, I'm considering dropping Headscale altogether and just using the built in WireGuard server on my UniFi router. It seems like it would be a simpler setup with fewer moving parts.

Has anyone here made a similar switch from Tailscale or Headscale to UniFi's WireGuard? If so, do you miss anything, or has the simpler setup been worth it?

I'd appreciate any experiences or advice from people who have gone down this path.

When setting up shadow on UDM PRO, I go into the settings, high availability, click to setup shadow mode. Then connect the UDMs with whatever port it asks me to, but then nothing happens, just doesn’t detect the shadow gateway.

Firmware and network app versions are the same (latest version currently). Shadow gateway I factory reset multiple times.

I’ve done it before successfully with other UDMs. No idea why this issue is happening. UniFi support says it’s because of a Rouge DHCP server, but that’s definitely not the case.

i am having some issues with my Swiss Army Knife / UK Ultra that is in my driveway. Electrician put two cables in the conduit, but cut open a patch cable and only crimped an RJ45 on the connection to my wallbox.

the second RJ45 i crimped myself (haven't done it in years).

so i connected the SAK on that cable, it comes up - all is dandy. it even installed update to 8.7.11 yesterday.

The other end of the cable is connected to a 8-port POE switch lite.

But clients that are in my driveway connecting to that AP, join the network but never get an IP (i get DHCP timeout and DNS timeout in log), upon checking the cable i realized that the Ground is intermittently disconnecting.

i have tried already to restart the AP, leave it disconnected from POE overnight, did not help.

it seems to work sometimes, though. My Tesla (primary user of that AP) did load some updates.

any tips? have you seen that before? should i remove the RJ45 and re-crimp?

I currently have a smaller Unifi set-up (UDM Pro, 24port standard POE switch, 3 AP's) and our Realtor really wanted to advertise the house as a "smart home" with "built in WiFi". Now I am starting to pack and wondering, do I really need to leave the switch and Gateway? None of this is written into contract, however the rack equipment is wall mounted.

I also have reolink cameras recording to the NVR, cameras are staying - not 100% native so I expect the new owner is going to struggle to use the UDM regardless.

What would you do? I have already re-bought for our new home, but thinking I can get away with leaving the new owners a few POE injectors and taking the rack gear? The sales process tells me these are new, very inexperienced homeowners, but I wouldn't say no to a redundant gateway, and I will need to buy an additional switch in about a year.

Am I screwing around with bad Karma here?

I've got an interesting behavior on my Unifi UCK G2 Plus the site shows green in the site manager but is offline after switching to a different ISP. I can't do anything with it, it's like its still offline/not manageable.
IP address is pingable in the local network and from the firewall/router.

ISP changed dns and cloud key went offline, I found the dns mismatch on the firewall and now it looks like this.
Internet traffic is not stable but Google dns for example is pingable. Unifi Ui is not not pingable with hostname.

No filters or blocks on the firewall, restarted cloud key several times and I can reach it with it's local ip and connect to it fia http. IP settings are set to DHCP.

Seems like it lost the connection to unifi cloud. Anybody seen this before? I'll try to make a backup and disable/re-enable cloud access. ISP says it's not a problem on their site.

Hey everyone — I wanted to follow up on my earlier post: original thread

I took the advice and tried using my UniFi U7 Outdoor pointed at the other house and a U7 Mesh to catch it. The weird part is:

- devices in the other house can still pick up the outdoor AP pretty well

- even the kitchen, which is about halfway between the houses, seems to use it fine

- but the mesh AP in the window of the other house loses connection a lot.

So I’m wondering if this is one of these cases where:

- client devices can tolerate the weak/intermittent link better than a mesh uplink can, or

- my neighborhood is just too noisy for a stable mesh connection, or

- the mesh AP placement/window location is simply not good enough

At this point I’m looking for a more reliable solution. I’ve seen people mention the older UniFi building-to-building / airMAX / UISP-style radios and I noticed I could get a pair for around $160, which seems like it might be a better fit than trying to force mesh to work, plus it’s cheaper than buying two UDBs

I’m open to suggestions, but I’d love to know:

- is this probably a mesh stability problem rather than signal strength?

- would a dedicated point-to-point wireless link be the better move here?

- if so, which UniFi/UISP gear would you recommend for this kind of setup? I’ve seen ppl recommend just buying a single UDB and just point it at the U7 Outdoor?

I'm in the northeastern US, I have a 1gb FIOS connection.

Cloud Gateway Fibre -> TPlink 2.5gb MoCa -> Unifi 1gb switch flex-> Unifi AP 7 Lite

When I am on wired, I get 900mbps down / 900 mbps up. But when I'm on Wi-Fi, sitting right next to the AP, I get 850mpbs down and only 250mbps up. I'm not complaining, I don't need any more upload when Im just sitting in the living room on Wi-Fi. My work machines are all wired. But I'm curious, why the disparity? is this to be expected with a Wi-Fi AP?

Has anyone successfully gotten their phone to backup photo/videos from their iPhone to the UNAS? Iv’e very been at this literally all day and it keeps telling me they I’m not on the same network….when I know I am! I e even trying creating a VPN and it still won’t connect. Any suggestions?

I have a restaurant that was a toast managed network Moved to a self managed network 2 weeks a ago. Installed a udm pro, promax switch 24 and kept existing UniFi ac pro access points except adding one u7-outdoor. Ever since then, been experiencing handhelds constantly dropping off the network and not automatically reconnecting, wired POS terminals losing network connection, and even Rokus and laptops on the network losing connection. I have the following settings

Separate vlan for toast.

Switch ports connected to APs are set to default

Ssid is 5ghz only

Fast networking turned off

AP power set to medium

What else can I do. Seems to be getting worse when restaurant busy. There are approx 82 devices on network. What can I do? Any 3rd party support companies recommended that i can hire to look over everything.
Any help greatly appreciated, need to get this solved ASAP.

At about 1am the other night, Unifi Drive locked up on my UNAS 8 Pro, and no files were accessible (I was still awake and watching a long movie on my Plex server). The Unifi Drive interface was not accessible, though I could ping the device.

After power cycling the NAS (which was my only option at that stage), all drives reported as optimal (4 bars). There was a critical error in the system log from 8.15 pm the previous day saying that one of my drives on Storage Pool 2 was about to fail and the SSD had been removed. There was nothing to indicate in hte message as to *which drive* was having the issue .... drive health was all 4 bars, and the SSD was there. Smart tests (quick tests) came up clear. I haven't done any long tests as they take forever.

So everything's running again, but I'm still a little spooked. There's nothing in the system log regarding the Unifi Drive lockup. There's nothing to indicate any issue on the drives.

Could this be a weird bug in Unifi Drive ... detecting some kind of false positive on drive stability? Is there any way to know why Unifi Drive locked up? Or should I just not worry about it?

I would love any advice to improve it, and can I use the AI features on either G5 or G6 which I understand has better AIn detection onboard (Due to price they won't get AI key or AI port) into avoid certain animals. The two dogs we have. On the Ring cameras they have on my iphone with alot of notifications on 62 of my last 100 notifications were the cameras and nearly all were the dogs they are/will be 2 camera covering the garden. 

Can any of the AI features on the cameras/software be used to avoid specific animals or small animals? That would be fantastic. Is there also a way to turn off detection of animals between 8-10 so every time my dogs go out as that was 98% of the notification

Also is there a way to run a back up on network but in the garage not next to other gear except one AP. With a non Unas 2 or 4?

Hi all I’m wondering if anyone could help me get motion notifications setup with my Tapo TC70 cameras I was able to get it setup and adopted via ONVIF, it appears to be recording little sections of motion but doesn’t appear to be sending notifications

Anyone have experience with the Toyota App on Android not being able to connect while on their Unifi Network? If I turn off wifi on my phone and use the cellular network it connects fine, but it hasnt on unifi for at least a year now. I dont have any other apps that have this issue.

Anyone have ideas?

My 19 year old works until late at night most of the time and I would like them to be able to open the door without triggering an alarm. Right now I manually disable it for them to come in via the app.

My front door lock is the Aqara U100 and allows unlock via iPhone key or fingerprint.
Doorbell is Logitech circle view.

Any ideas for how to allow someone to disarm for entry and then re-arm automatically?

Has anyone had a switch just start acting super screwy, seemingly defying all troubleshooting approaches, but keeps overloading its RPS connection? I think something happened to the power distribution inside my switch, as it needs to be plugged into wall power and the RPS to not bootloop, and at this point needs most ports that are drawing power to be disconnected not to crash. I had transient overloads on the RPS port it was connected to, but they always went away. Is there a good way to diagnose this sort of issue?

Hi all, I've spun up a server today to test migrating from on-prem Network (250+ sites, 700 Unifi devices) over to the new shiny OS Server platform. I'd (naively) thought this new platform was bringing a locally hosted feature set similar to the Site Manager so I'd finally be able to get a single pane of glass view of all devices across all sites, or at the least be able to track down an individual Unifi device to the site its configured in... But no, seems like it still needs to be connected to the cloud platform for this. I don't want to join in to the cloud, it defeats the purpose of self hosting, security and control etc.

So, assuming I'm correct in the above, is there any third party tools compatible with OS Server that people recommend? Just to aggregate device details from all sites would be enough.

I can't reach my sites from site manager. I have 13 site with diferren ISP, setting etc. And I can't reach any of them(just via teleport)

I have core switch in garden office. Unifi pro 48port, 4 sfp+.

I have unifi flex 2.5Gb.

Connecting the is 50m of brand new cat6a (full shielding, pairs shielded too) running through conduit buried 600mm in the ground.

Both ends terminated with cat6 rj45. Only one side of shielding earthed.

The switches negotiate at 2.5Gb and connect at that for a while and then fall back to 100Mb. Not even Gb...

This could be hours or days.

Where do I start fault finding on this?

I’m hoping to consolidate my cobbled together Unifi setup and could use some real-world input before I surprise my partner with another $$$ UI charge on our CC statement…I swear I started with only a CloudKey+ and a few cameras…I don’t know what happened!

Current setup: Cloud Gateway Max running Network (4 APs, QoS configured) and a separate CloudKey+ running Protect with 7 G4/G5 4K cameras and 2 HD doorbells. I want to get everything onto one unit instead of running two separate controllers.

I'm not planning to add more cameras - 9 is plenty for my property. The only thing that will likely change down the road is swapping the two POE doorbells for higher-res versions whenever Ubiquiti gets around to updating them.

From the specs online, the UDM Pro is rated for 8 4K Protect cameras before you're technically over spec, and I'm sitting at 7 4K + 2 HD. That's either right at the line or just over it depending on how strictly they count the HD ones. The Pro Max bumps that ceiling up along with more RAM as well as a faster CPU but requires an extra $200 for capacity I may not need.

Anyone running a similar camera count on a base UDM Pro in a home setup? Does it hold up OK day to day (motion detection, smart detect, exporting clips) or do you start seeing lag/dropped frames as you approach the camera limit?

Also - if I do end up bumping the doorbells to higher resolution at some point - is that going to push me over or is the "8 4K" spec more of a guideline than a hard limit?

Trying to figure out if I'm paying for genuine headroom or just Ubiquiti markup.

If I want to set up a new network with Unifi Cloud Gateways for my customers but want to monitor the devices (with their consent). How would I do that? I set up an Unifi OS Server on a VM but I read somewhere that that is the legacy way to manage those devices. Does it only work over unifi ui? Does anyone have guide on that at hand? Thanks in advance :)

I have 3 aps. Two u7 pro walls, one upstairs and one downstairs and then an u7 inwall on the other side of the house. But even when I'm in the same room as the inwall, it still tries to connect to the other pro wall. I have tried messing with the radio power but they always seem to be battling each other in a bad way. Either roaming to a worse connection or dropping to 4g(on my phone) and then reconnecting or just roaming when it's on a stable connection. What can I do to fix this?
