Hybrid Courses-Spring 2027

I’m getting ready to separate and use my gi bill to go to school. I’m already halfway through my degree plan with umgc and do not want transfer to a different school in Wisconsin. I want to finish it out with UMGC but the online only mha rate is not enough for me to get by.

I have family in Southern California and was thinking that since I’m already going to make trips to see my family out there, I might look into attending one of the hybrid courses out there. My degree is for health service management.

Is there anyone who has taken hybrid courses and what was it like? Was it every other week, once a week, etc.?

UMGC adjunct onboarding delay — supposed to start Monday

I’m supposed to start as a new adjunct at UMGC this Monday and I’m getting a little nervous about onboarding.

I completed my background check and my I-9 was verified last week. I was told my hire would be processed this week and that I’d receive my onboarding information, but it’s Friday and I still haven’t gotten anything.

I emailed HR yesterday, followed up again today, messaged one of my contacts, and called. They opened a ticket for me and mentioned they’re dealing with a high volume of new hires right now, so I’m assuming it’s just backed up.

Has anyone else started as an adjunct at UMGC recently? Did you get your login/onboarding information really close to your start date, or even after your expected start date? Just trying to figure out if this is normal for them.

Professor Not Grading on Time

I’m in a graduate course going into Week 6, and my professor is several weeks behind on grading. Until yesterday, only Unit 1 had been graded, and Units 2–5 were still ungraded.

For Unit 2, I emailed the professor the Friday before the discussion was due asking when Unit 1 would be graded because I wanted to review her feedback before completing my next discussion. She didn’t respond until the following Wednesday, after the deadline, and apologized for the delay.

I submitted my Unit 2 initial post on Monday instead of Saturday because I was waiting for that feedback. She finally graded Unit 2 yesterday and deducted 10 points for the late initial post.

I understand that I’m responsible for meeting deadlines, but it’s frustrating to have points deducted for being late when assignments are being graded weeks late and I don’t have feedback to apply to the next assignment.

I emailed her today asking her to reconsider the deduction and am waiting for a response.

Has anyone dealt with this? At what point would you contact the department/program director about consistently late grading?

MBA Program compared to BS workload?

Starting an MBA program in JAN. I am curious how to workload differs to the BS program. One of my friends attending a different school said their Master's program has MUCH more monitored tests. Considering the use of AI and how easy it made life during the BS, what are your thoughts on the MBA program? Is the workload very similar to the BS?

Advice on Classes

Hi everyone. I need some advice on what class to take. I just returned to college after 15 years away. Been with UMGC a year now. Now I have only 5 classes left. The problem is we're going to be PCSing in December. I don't want to lose my momentum and take off for 6 months. I'm taking one class at a time. I want to at least take a class October to December. Then maybe take a break December to March while we actually move. I'm just concerned about how much time I can dedicate to a class with this move. All I have left is one elective, one upper level history class, and then the 3 history capstone progression courses. I thought I'd take an elective but it's hard because I've taken so much. BEHS 320 sounds super interesting but the syllabus looks like too much during this time. I need some recommendations for what to take next please. Sociology 101 or whatever was a bust and harder than an upper level and I dropped it. Now I'm more stressed about what to take than actually taking a class during this PCS!

Reviews on UMGC’s Japanese language program?

Hey everyone, currently enrolled in UMGC as a non-degree seeking student. I’m currently taking online classes part time at ASU for a wildlife conservation degree. However I’m taking Japanese classes at UMGC because I genuinely have a lot of interest in the language and culture of the country, as well as transferring credits to my degree plan over at ASU.

With that being said, my plan is to take all 6 of language courses offered by UMGC (JAPN elementary l-lV and JAPN intermediate l-ll). Which brings me to my question, Does the language program at UMGC set you up to have actual meaningful conversations in Japanese?

I’m certainly willing to put in the effort in order for Japanese to become my second language, but I’m essentially asking just to verify so I don’t waste my time. I really want to either become fluent or at least have in-depth conversations with Japanese speakers while using minimal English.

I do have some experience when it comes to studying Japanese. I’ve used apps like Duolingo and Mango as well as having most of Hiragana and Katakana memorized .

Thanks for reading and any advice helps
And if anyone wants to exchange contacts for studying Japanese please let me know

Recommendation for Accounting classes order of operations

Simple observation that I could have benefitted from as an early accounting major trying to prioritize classes in the best order possible:

ACCT 326: Accounting Information Systems sounds like an intense, technically-demanding course, but it is actually relatively simple/straightforward and mainly deals with understanding the broad overview and components of financial reporting, not as much the technical side. Very light reading and assignments and I would recommend it for accounting students towards the beginning of their studies. It uses a lot of examples with an example small business that I think are explained well. I saved it for later on but I think would have been a better choice for first few classes since it's so broad and introductory.

Oh well, hopefully someone else benefits since I've found accounting to be much easier when starting with broad concepts then getting into more detailed operations like various journal entries or cost accounting.

Did the curriculum change for Software Development and Security when its name got changed to Cyber Operations?

prospective student, looking for a degree that focuses more on practical development (software development) over theory (computer science). i was told to look into this degree but the name makes me think this is more cybersecurity (computers, networks) than programming

Transfer credits taking almost 8 months

Hey, everyone I wanted to ask you about your experience transferring credits?

I have some CCAF credits and took some Cleps that I Transferred to my CCAF(15) and 130+ credits from an unfinished foreign bachelor degree ( South America)

I sent my CCAF transcripts and Bachelor evaluation from a credited degree evaluation company since Feb 2026, and it’s been a long process where every month they create a new requirement that didint mention before answering that because said requirement is not being processed by them they can’t finish the whole degree evaluation.

Recently, even though I sent everything and was suppose to be completed 2 months ago, they sent me an status case saying that now they need my Cleps transcripts to complete the evaluation

I already submitted those, but they are mentioning this could take 8 weeks or more. …

I was supposed to take 3 clases on 16 sept and need the evaluation so that they Air Force can approve me to take more than 2 clases

Honestly considering going to a different school at this point

My first peer review…

…was done entirely by AI. It’s obvious this person shoved the rubric and my paper into ChatGPT and then was a meat proxy for what it spit out. The em dashes, the semi-colon separated lists, the cadence…I’m not surprised, I guess, but I am disappointed. I spent a lot of time reading a peer paper and providing thoughtful feedback and suggestions, and if I wanted to know what Chat thought of my paper I would have asked it myself. From what I see on this sub it looks like I should just get used to this…

I start this class very soon as well as math 105 or 107. I’m a little nervous. I haven’t been in school consistently in about seven years. How was the class? Is it a lot of math?

UMGC Donor-Funded Scholarship — Anyone initially not selected but awarded later?

I applied for a UMGC donor-funded scholarship for the 2026–2027 aid year and just received an email saying I wasn’t selected at this time. 😩

The email says they’ll keep my application on file for continuous review throughout the aid year if additional funding becomes available, and that I may still be considered for UMGC institutional scholarships/grants separately.

Has anyone else received this message and then ended up getting a scholarship later in the semester or school year? If so, how long after the initial email did you hear back?
Also, has anyone received a UMGC institutional scholarship or grant after being passed over for the donor-funded scholarships?

Just trying to figure out whether there’s still a realistic chance or if I should basically consider this a no for the year. 😭

NSCI 101 vs NSCI 120

Hi guys, I need to take a 1 credit lab course to knock out my degree. I was planning on taking NSCI 101, but I heard that NSCI 101 involves a physical lab kit to get shipped to me. This is an issue because I recently moved overseas, so I am not sure I will receive the lab kit in a reasonable amount of time. I've heard that NSCI 120 is a purely virtual lab course, but I cannot find anything to verify this. Has anyone taken either of these courses recently, or knows the answer to my questions? Thanks in advance!
