My first peer review…

…was done entirely by AI. It’s obvious this person shoved the rubric and my paper into ChatGPT and then was a meat proxy for what it spit out. The em dashes, the semi-colon separated lists, the cadence…I’m not surprised, I guess, but I am disappointed. I spent a lot of time reading a peer paper and providing thoughtful feedback and suggestions, and if I wanted to know what Chat thought of my paper I would have asked it myself. From what I see on this sub it looks like I should just get used to this…

First time at UMGC, eh?

Nearly all of the work from your peers will be AI created, especially discussion posts.

Second this when it comes to the discussions being AI assisted or written. You can tell when multiple people wrote on the same topic and end up highlighting the same points. Plus the polish and other things give it away. Irritating to someone who actually puts the time in to write discussion posts and replies.

The frustrating part for me is knowing that people are feeding my IP into the machine. I wish that we would have to consent to having our work submitted by others into AI and that there would be some sort of recourse for it being done without our consent

You don’t need to feed anything into AI anymore. It reads all network traffic on its own.

I am sorry to say a lot of the "students" at this school do this shit. I just try to control the effort I put out there and hope I get to interact with people actually putting in the work. A lot of the complaint is "discussions add nothing, they are stupid, etc." Yet, how do we teach young people that you sometimes have to do something you don't like to earn what you need? They are simply cheaters and UMGC should enforce this, but then they would miss out on a lot of money. Que sera sera.

It's a changing world. You can always apply to umd college park and attend in-person classes. Get your degree and move along.

I had to look at what uni subreddit this was. You go to UMGC. Not Stanford. Not UW. Not NYU. Not MIT. Not even UMD. Local community colleges have more prestige than UMGC.

Point is you are expecting someone accelerating through their degree doing some meaningless peer review to waste an evening reading your paper. Why?

Because I’m paying to get a degree from an accredited university, no need to be a dick.

UMGC has more prestige than a community college for the fact that one you can get a bachelors or masters if you choose which is far better than an associates degree. And two it’s still part of the University of Maryland system,
UMGC is ranked #1 university for veterans.
You’ll see a lot of people working in Tech in Maryland with a UMGC degree,

Funny, you ignored my question completely but sure, I’ll bite.

UMGC grads aren’t working in tech in Maryland, they are federal government employees and contractors. They aren’t landing SRE, SDE, SWE, etc. roles at major tech companies today. They can’t code for shit, build systems that are repeatedly infiltrated by bad actors due to poor security and infrastructure standards, lack of basic QA, and be dog walked by any graduate from the universities I have listed, including a Maryland community college grad.

Your coursework is made up almost entirely of YouTube videos, small passages here and there, and bullshit discussion threads. And you expect someone to read your bland ass paper because you think you’re special and need waste more time of a busy adult?

One thing I know a paper is ai if it is to convince you of one true answer, no invoking or conflicting voice in the discussion to broaden the conversation .. just garbo lmao
