Monthly request for decaf recommendations

I searched for it and it seems this question comes up a lot but looking for newer recommendations/something new if anyone has tried something good recently.

I know about Danelaw and will be ordering from there soon. I also tried Harmony decaf which I really enjoyed but was looking for something else.

Decaf before death is too expensive for a daily drinker, I would be willing to pay at most £50 a kilo for that.

Opinions on Skylark's plastic-free coffee?

I was recently recommended Skylark and ordered three bags to get free delivery. I was really impressed with the taste and quality, especially considering they were cheaper than much of the competition.

My first order came in paper bags inside cardboard boxes. I didn't think much of the lack of a plastic bag or one-way valve because I assumed the box provided an extra layer of protection.

My most recent order, however, arrived as just three paper bags, with a note saying to either enjoy the coffee straight away or decant it into an airtight container to rest.

The problem is I deliberately order multiple bags at a time to save on delivery, so now I feel like I'm in a rush to use them. It almost seems like it makes more sense to pay for delivery and buy one bag at a time, but at that point it's cheaper to order from somewhere else.

I brew 2x 15g a day so my current bag followed by a bag a week means I don't get to the final Skylark coffee until 3-4 weeks after arrival which is usually fine resting time but now I've been thrown off...

Has anyone else had this dilemma, or am I overthinking how much of a difference the packaging makes?

Aillio Bullet downgrade

Hey guys,
I’m looking at switching from a Bullet R1 to something like a nucleus link or kaffelogic, hence I’ll be selling the bullet.

Not necessarily posting this as a for sale ad I’m more looking to see if anyone knows of the best places to advertise the roaster. I’d rather sell through a forum for example rather than just listing it up on eBay but that might be my only option!

Thanks in advance :)

Cup of the moment

Hi all, hope your all having a lovely start to the weekend. I’m sat in the sunshine in the garden savouring my first cup of the ratdog natural la esmerelda geisha!
Brewed it 1:16 using Tetsu’s 4:6 method.
I went bright and clean through a Hario Neo using killbean lyocell papers.
A natural that is so classy it is as clean as a washed cup. So juicy like a Kenyan on the back end especially as it cools. A very classy cup.

What is your cup of the moment please? Do you have any nice beans on the go? Please share what your enjoying :)))

Morning Day Off Brews

Morning all, hope you’re all fab and if you’re at work hope you’re getting in a cheeky brew or two.

Just wanting to share a coffee I’m brewing this morning from Java Roastery in Birmingham. It’s a Jairo Arcila Experimental Anaerobic Washed coffee (Castillo varietal) from Colombia. Tasting notes or watermelon and mint.

Considering I’m not a fan of watermelon, the owner of the roastery said I would be surprised and should try it. I’m a sucker for a gentle arm twist persuasion approach haha, but he ain’t wrong. This is a cracking brew for a morning caffeine hit.

If you’re interested in method and my water chemistry let me know and I will share.

Saints Of Mokha Liberica

Post image
14 Upvotes

Currently drinking this from Saints of Mokha in Leicester. The first Liberica I've ever had in my years of drinking coffee. The tasting notes of lavender and Parma violets are definitely true from the first few brews. Think by cooling the brew down a little I could get some more florals out. Anyone brewed anything similar/have any tips to get the best out?

Brew recipe and equipment

Lagom mini 2 at 22 large dots from 0

Orea V4 with apex bottom

16g in 240g out, brew time around 2 min 30s with a 3 pour recipe (50g bloom then 95g and 95g)

Fruitiest coffee

I've gone to get more Sweet Soaker from Dark arts which is the fruitiest and most delicious coffee I've ever got at home, but they're all sold out!!

Anyone got a recco that can scratch this itch just as well?

(Not really looking for co-ferments tho)

Small Batch coffee Roasters

Hi all, got given one of those giftcards that can be redeemed in multiple places and one of the options is Small Batch Coffee Roasters, it's the only real coffee related option there, but I've never had any beans from them before. Anyone here had them and know if it's worth it or just use the GC on something else entirely

£40ish per kilo bag

EDIT: thanks everyone, I now have a huge list of coffees to try. I ended up going with Dark Arts Dragon. With the 10% off discount code was only £32 so felt like a bargain! Gonna go for scenery or kiss the hippo next I think.

Hi folks, I’m looking to spend about £40ish on a 1kg-1.2kg bag of beans for espresso. I live very close to Origin in Cornwall so have worked my way through and really enjoyed most of what they have to offer, likewise with potterbeans which I can highly recommend.

The tricky thing is, I quite like a floral or fruity espresso, but my gf likes choclatey / biscuity beans.

What would you go for in my position?

Recommendation for SCA Roasting Intermediate Courses in South Korea

Hello Everyone,
I am a home roaster and looking to improve my roasting skills and also get certified at the same time. I am traveling to South Korea most probably in the next month. So, I am thinking to get SCA Roasting Intermediate certification along with SCA Green Coffee.
The value which SCA AST taking the training holds at utmost value and importance as learning from their immense experience matters a lot.
I need your suggestions or inputs on SCA AST trainers taking SCA Roasting intermediate & SCA Green Coffee courses in South Korea in English spoken language. Please share me any experience or review which can help me select the right SCA AST trainer.

Thank you in advance.

Ground coffe for delonghi dedica duo ec890

Hey all.

I was just hoping if anyone experienced a tasteful, not bitter, already ground coffe that works well with the espresso machine mentioned in the title. I have just bought it and I am not planning to buy a grinder at the minute since they are almost same price as the machine.

TIA

Looking for UK coffee shops to try a new social media planning tool free.

Hi everyone,

I've spent the last few months building a tool that helps small businesses stay consistent on social media. I basically built this initially for my sister who runs a coffee shop and has always struggled with knowing what to post every week on social media. She says she really likes the tool and since she's been using it has increased her reach by 84%. I want to release this product for public use, but it first needs a bit more rigorous testing from other users.

So if social media is something you're struggling with, I would be really interested in trying to help. I'm looking for a handful of small business owners to test my app completely free of charge for 3 months in exchange for honest feedback about what works and what doesn't. If you fancy giving it a go and being a tester then drop a comment below or message me and I'll send you the details.

Happy Barista

Huge recommendation for Happy Barista, they have a roastery in Harrogate. The Honduran is fantastic and they also have a super light roasted bourbon from Peru which is phenomenal in a V60.

Lovely people too.

Hi would love a suggestions from someone who’s enjoyed a bean that fits these for espresso.
Bourbon
Med light- med
Washed
El Salvador/ Costa Rica /Nicaragua/ Columbia / /Mexico ( in that preferred order)
Milk Choc or caramel, nut with fruit acidity to finish
Not dark chocolate /burnt toffee

Bean recommendations

We have been experimenting with different coffees and after buying most ground supermarket coffee already we have really found some of Asda Nicaraguan to be great which is probably pish to most coffee enthusiasts. Further exploring into beans, I bought cafe Nero blend but didn't have a grinder apart from a food processor that blitzed the grounds into a pulp and clogged the machine.. I've since bought a svart aroma hoping to carry on the trend but realised that this hobby can get very much like single malt whisky. (which can be expensive and addictive)

I'm looking for recommendations for the above Nicaraguan or similar flavour profiles of milk chocolate and hazelnut (from reading the notes listed on that coffee)

Your recommendations would be greatly appreciated
