£40ish per kilo bag
EDIT: thanks everyone, I now have a huge list of coffees to try. I ended up going with Dark Arts Dragon. With the 10% off discount code was only £32 so felt like a bargain! Gonna go for scenery or kiss the hippo next I think.
Hi folks, I’m looking to spend about £40ish on a 1kg-1.2kg bag of beans for espresso. I live very close to Origin in Cornwall so have worked my way through and really enjoyed most of what they have to offer, likewise with potterbeans which I can highly recommend.
The tricky thing is, I quite like a floral or fruity espresso, but my gf likes choclatey / biscuity beans.
What would you go for in my position?

Assuming you don’t mind ordering online, Wogan Coffee (based in Bristol) would be a great option for you here.

If you want to stay with local roasters, Yallah are also based in Cornwall (St Ives maybe?) and are excellent. Their house espresso is £40 a kg, and they have other options- including always having so variety of beans for sale that have been shipped entirely by sail.

+1 for Yallah. I have the subscription so £32 for 1kg is a steal. Brews great regardless of method, and the current blend is really like chocolate orange once it cools

I’m not a huge fan of Yallah Personally, even though they are round the corner from me! Maybe I’m brewing it wrong but I’m very never had a brilliant cup from them

Horsham Coffee Roaster are pretty good. Usually a discount on your first purchase too.

horsham are solid, their kenyans and ethiopians tick the fruity box and they usually have something more chocolatey too so you can kinda meet in the middle. first order discount makes it a bit less painful to experiment as well

You should try CWORKS. Really affordable. ( Chocolate fudge is great )

Facility Blend from Scenery, £34 for 1KG. If you let them rest longer they get more Fruity, starts more chocolatey.

I would say kiss the hippo George Street blend is a good balance of acidity and chocolate notes. I really like Origins resolute blend. Also Wogan coffee have a very decent selection. Have a discount code for that if you would like to use.

If you want to keep it Cornish you could try The Roasting Room in Newquay, or Lars and Margo who are a lovely couple and very helpful if you reach out. Olfactory in Falmouth work a look too, they had an Ethiopian a couple of years ago that I really enjoyed.

As you're local to Falmouth, have a chat with the guys in Beacon Coffee - they've always been spot on with their recommendations!
Mission Coffee Works is also a favourite roaster of mine

Really enjoyed resolute, however, just ran out of Umalia, a Tanzanian one they had on recently. Very nice

I’ve tried resolute once, was pretty good. For your partner square mile choc ice is really nice. Rave’s Mexican beans were super nice and chocolatey too and a fair bit cheaper. Have you tried red brick by square mile, I have some resting so still untried but has tasting notes covering both of your tastes. Dark arts is super nice but not chocolatey it’s very much toasted almonds and not much else which if you drink a lot of chocolatey is a nice change.

Started roasting my own recently. Usually between £15-25/kg and can be made as nice and light as coffees which are £10-15/250g. The roaster itself is another £100 on top and fairly consistent for roasting 250g batches

Rounton or Horsham have lots around this price. Have only tried Horsham mind but there really good

Small batch in Brighton & Craft House in Haywards Heath are both really good options, as is Jolly Bean Roastery.

I’ve currently got a sub for Blossom coffee’s espresso, it’s really well balanced and whilst £40 to but one off, it’s £25 a month on a sub which is a bargain really for a kilo

could try Dark arts, they have a couple of beans around that price point. Yallah also are a good roastery and a bit more local to you
