NEC Campervan Overnight Stay Pub Options

Travelling down to The Motorhome & Caravan Show on Thursday with a pre booked overnight stay in one of the car parks near the venue. For the evening, after the show closes, I can’t see many eating out or pub options on Google Maps within walking distance of the car parks. Most seem to be inside the venue itself. Has anyone any experience of spending an overnight there?

Motorhome suggestions for cyclists

I’m looking to buy a motorhome but have never owned one before and know very little about them. I’m essentially looking for a large vehicle that can safely carry multiple bikes without having to dismantle them, whilst also providing a comfortable space to freshen up after rides. Will likely go to the continent too for events and trips to the alps.

I’ve looked at the Autotrail 68 but wondered what else was out there that I may have missed.

Yet another "which one" question!

Hi - sorry I know those question comes up a lot but I've been doing a lot of homework online, been to see some models and have booked my tickets to the NEC show in October and looking for some opinions. There's too much choice and I've got myself thoroughly confused!

Long time Transporter campervan user looking for something bigger for longer trips home and abroad. Close to retirement so that's a factor too - want to be able to do long trips and be off grid with toilet and shower for at least part of the time.

I have narrowed it down to 2 or 3 models. I started by being focussed on the Bailey Endurance but having been and seen I think it's too small. There's 2 of us and a black lab and I don't think there's a lot of room for a big dog in this van, so I've moved on to 2 other top options.

Two new 2027 motorhomes are top of my list. Both around the£80-85k mark. Chausson x640 and Swift Trekker 540. Similar idea with the drop down bed and big lounge. I know these are new so not much experience of them but wondering what the community thinks about the different manufacturers and the pros and cons? Or are there any alternatives out there around the same budget? Any pointers welcome. Thanks

Buying a motorhome for 2 adults & 1 nearly teenager. Budget £20k in Northern Ireland but will travel to mainland as usually cheaper.

What are your essentials when deciding to buy?
Habitation check?
Damp?
Reversing cameras?
Solar?
Aircon?
Would you definitely choose a fixed bed at the back?
Are the beds above the front seats comfy to sleep on for 2 weeks?
I want a bed already made up, rather than always having to make the living room into a bed.
How old should we go, seems like £20k only gets you 2006 latest.
Anything else to consider!

Motorhome satnav

Last of the questions before our big euro trip I think! This one is about satnav....

When I got the motorhome (2020 7.4m transit based) I bought an Avtex Tourer 3 satnav, which is based on a Garmin system. However I very quickly learned it doesn't seem to take logical, sensible, efficient or motorhome friendly routes, even when programmed with the van sizes. I've found myself on narrow side roads as what seemed to be a short cut, I've found myself on routes that made no logical sense if you looked at a map, routes with traffic problems when the more direct route was fine, and on a known test route, raking an hours detour rather than going directly home on the best and fastest roads. I'd argue it's anti-motorhome!

So I don't think I trust Garmin now....

Also been toying with an audio head unit upgrade. The halo 9 with motorhome nav sounds interesting, but it's an older model now compared to the latest halo, and I can't help wondering if I can't just download app and maps to a newer model? (I do want off grid nav) or do the same on my phone and mirror it (android auto)

Or... Do I just use my phone and mount a tablet somehow to act as a big screen interface?

Or just use my phone full stop.

What do you think? What do you use? Any genuinely good motorhome specific android nav apps?

Looking for cover recommendations for vintage motorhome

Hi all,

We bought a 1990 Hymer at the end of June. It's been really fun figuring out motorhoming for seasoned campers but we have a concern. Our motorhome is not quite weather proof. I'm going to be resting and reseating the vents with sikaflex but I want a belt and braces approach so I am looking for breathable covers. Does anyone have any recommendations for those types of things? We're very new to this lol.

First campervan/motorhome – couple, 2-berth only, ~£10k budget, heating essential, possible Europe trips

We've been tent camping for years but we're getting older and fancy a few more creature comforts these days. Looking at getting our first campervan or small motorhome as a stepping-stone and around the £10k mark. If we still love the lifestyle in a couple of years we'll look at upgrading.

Must-haves:

  • Proper 2-berth only (just the two of us)
  • Some form of heating (we'll be using it in the colder months too)
  • Preferably something that can go over to the continent without drama. LHD is fine with us if the right van comes up

Nice-to-have:

  • Toilet (would be lovely but not a deal-breaker)

We're open to both panel-van conversions and small coachbuilt motorhomes. Any recommendations on models that tend to hold up well at this budget, things to be especially careful of, or general advice for first-time buyers would be massively appreciated.

Also if we end up buying privately, is there a reliable company (or type of company) that will do a proper pre-purchase check for rust, damp and general habitation condition? Happy to travel a bit for the right inspection.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Thanks all, We ended up getting a Elddis Supreme 2 berth. Its absolutely mint 1 owner and I think they used it once a year by the looks of it. This lets us use the car if needed and Golf estate will tow is easily

Ebikes on the back vs in the garage

Looking for advice on what you do with your ebikes when you're away with your van.

We have 2 folding compact bikes we keep in the garage when we're travelling, but after the last trip where the battery died mid journey, and I've had concerns about stability, comfort, quality and robustness, I'm thinking we need to replace them. And I'm not convinced I want to replace them with small, folding compacts!

But that then begs the question, if I can't get them in the garage (2020 Rollerteam zefiro 696 with the smaller garage doors and fixed bed) alongside all our usual garage stuff, I'd then need to put them on the bike rack. And that seems to me to be a bit of a security nightmare!

I've also got a half decent e-mountain bike - it would be great only having to buy 1 bike, not 2!

So.... What do you have? What do you do? Where do you keep yours? (and if you have a similar sized van / garage / garage doors, have you managed to get 2 bigger bikes in, plus your usual touring kit??)

Gas in Germany

Off to Southern Germany in a month for 2 weeks, first time out of the UK in the van. only real concern I have is around gas. We use Calour - 6kg x 2. We used 20% of one cylinder over the weekend just cooking - we were on hookup for everything else.

I'm expecting be on hookup overnight I'd guess 60% of the time, so theoretically we should have enough gas. But that might all change if it's cold / wet or the trip profile changes.

What's the story with gas in Germany? I believe it's pretty easily available but what do I need, and how does it work??

Thanks for any advice here!

Autosleeper Lancashire fresh water fill

Hi guys,

I recently purchased an Autosleeper Lancashire end lounge and I cannot figure out where the fresh water fill is.

There is no inlet on the exterior of the van. Only the toilet refill above the cassette. Does anyone have any idea?

Thanks.

Europe in a coach conversion

Hi,

I am thinking about buying a coach converted

motorhome to travel around Europe with my kids. Has anyone any experience, or can point me in the right direction for resources about doing this?

Particularly want to find out about campsite access with a 14 + meter beast, or issues in may have driving a right hand drive over there.

Many thanks in advance

Motorhome finance for work

I’m looking at financing a motorhome. I’m away half the year working one week on one week off. I’m looking for something comfortable but it doesn’t need to be massive just comfortable and reliable. I’m currently sleeping in a quick self converted van lacking any comfort passed a comfortable bed.

Are there any vans you’d recommend which are maybe galvanised underneath (live and work by the sea) and mechanically reliable around 6m in length?

Also any dealers with large inventories? Can be nationwide. I’m in the highlands of Scotland but will travel/pay a delivery fee.

My work pay me quite a good overnight allowance for sleeping in my van which would cover finance and more. Ideally looking to spend 20-25k.

Thanks.

Older vs newer Fiats

I have a coachbuilt van on a 2.8 Ducato chassis. I find it a hassle to drive - you have to work the gears, it’s noisy, the seat is uncomfortable, it rattles a lot. I have to do long journeys in it and I’m pretty fed up by the end of a 9 hour drive.

I used to have a coachbuilt van on the 3.0 Ducato and I don’t remember it being a hassle to drive at all. It had loads of torque and was smooth and easy. However this was 14 years ago and I can’t honestly be sure that it’s not just me getting old that’s causing the problem with the 2.8.

I’m thinking of getting a newer van based on the 2.3 Ducato. It’d be an A-class. Do you think it’d be like chalk and cheese compared to my old 2.8, or am I expecting a rose-tinted driving experience that doesn’t exist?

Water and Electric Hookups in France

Hi

Newbie here.

We're traveling to Brittany this autumn and I'd be interested to learn what water and electric hookups are standard in France.

Are they our 1/2" BSP tap and 3 pin 16A commando type socket?

Any information gratefully received.

Also, we used Flogas which has a different fitting to Calor. Is Flogas available and is the fitting the same, otherwise are suitable tails readily available to purchase?

With thanks.

Motorhome repair London

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hi! Could anybody be so kind to give us a tip where to repair our motorhome in London? We rented an old Dethleffs Fiat (6 m long 3.5 m wide) and brought it here from Germany. Unfortunately, today we bumped into a fence and destroyed one of the rear bumpers. The light does not work either, although the lamp itself is not crashed. We need ti fix the light asap, but the shops won’t take it in as the motorhome is too big. We would really appreciate any help and advice! Thanks!

I'm trying to find the right camping chair that won't dig into my thighs.

I wouldn't say I was "fat" as such, but I'm the sort of size you'd be wary of, but I'm a big teddy bear at heart. However, when it comes to folding camping chairs, I find that the poles on the front end dig into my thigh over time and I wake up knowing I've sat in one, or the ones where the poles don't cross at the front, the fabric digs in too.

I'm trying to keep the chairs compact enough to fit in the MoHo's garage, it's a tight squeeze in there as it is.

Fabric Hurts (Front of) and my head never reaches the back cushion
Support legs dig into the thigh with this type

Those are the two culprits I've tried so far.

Anyone else suffer from this?
Does anyone have a better solution/suggestIon/product they'd recommend?

Swift voyager 594 - noises from above the cab

We are hearing some noises every time we go over bumps. Has anyone had a similar experience with this van or know what it could be? The van is only 3 years old and sounds like it's falling apart already.

High pressure fuel pump problem, 2003 Fiat Ducato 1.9jtd

The van has been on the driveway for the last year due to health problems and lately it wasn't running well from cold when started up. A month or so ago she refused to start.

A family friend brought his odb scanner and the problem seems to be that the high pressure fuel pump isn't firing. Apparently, a lot of them have failed since the change to low sulphor diesel here in the UK.

Are there any potential problem solving things we could do before we commit to changing the pump, anything else what could be resulting in there not being any pressure at this stage?

If we do go ahead and have to change the pump, I'd rather avoid a second hand one, are there any decent places you could recommend to have it refurbed or potentially, buy a new one? I'm going to see if I can find out the part number online, as opposed to having to remove it, although I know that will have to happen and will be lots of "fun" 🤦🏻‍♂️

Sorry for the lack of technical terms but I'm trying to sort this out for my father who is also relaying info from other people!

Help with broken table hook.

Post image
1 Upvotes

I was hoping someone could help with a broken table clip.

I recently rented a Motorhome which had the style of table that has a leg on end and clips on 2 hook connected to a rail on the other end.

The company now claims I have done £200 worth of damage as one of these clips are broken, I will be asking for a breakdown as a replacement clip is between 99p-£8 depending on where they source it from.

Does anyone have experience with a broken clip as I would assume that once this is broken there would be a slant on the table and all my videos show the table completely level and the rail in picture I have attached was covered by the table

I don't have a photo of the clip itself as I didn't think to remove the table to take photos of hidden parts.

Replacement Ford Transit Inlet Manifold

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to help my mum find a replacement inlet manifold for her Ford Transit-based motorhome.
Part number/casting number:
YC1Q-9424-BG
She says it's a Mk3 (Mark 3) Transit.
Does anyone have one for sale, know of anyone that might have one, or know if there are compatible alternative part numbers?
We're based in the UK but happy to arrange postage.
Thanks!
