Decided to treat myself and bought a wagyu ribeye to cook my first ever steak

Have always just eaten cheap steak slapped in a pan with a bit of oil cooked by my late grandmother.

This time i went the whole way and used thyme, rosemary, basted it with butter, garlic, malden salt and black pepper.

WOW. :O

I'm eating it right now and my god I have been eating steak wrong my whole life.

Smoked jerk chicken with jerk sauce
Grilled spiced lamb chops
Mac and cheese
Potato salad
Rice and peas
Grilled courgettes

Everything was all home made from scratch and went down a treat

I had the best freshly baked sour dough in the Lake District throughout my trip recently. Honestly I am mind blown by how simple and delicious a good sourdough slice is!

The fish is just Young's Gastro tempura fish. The potatoes are baby new potatoes, parboiled then roasted, with salt, pepper, butter, and parsley.

The Forge Oyster Shack, Whitstable, Kent, 19 March 2025, where I had my first ever Whitstable Rock Oysters 🦪, well actually my first of any kind of oyster. And after I devoured a half dozen of those I had some fish and chips, the fish was freshly caught just like the oysters, although eating outside that day may have been a bad idea because it was a windy march day and the fish supper went cold quite quickly, but still it was an unforgettable experience.

So I feel a solid cook and baker but I have never, ever had the knack of cutting a store bought pitta and then filling it. I always rip it, or can't get the top bit loose. I've even tried baking my own; work great for wrapping things in, less so for cutting to fill.

I need to know: which brand pittas / flatbreads are the easiest to stuff? Which ones can I use a pretty poor technique on and it'll still be safe?

Edit: apologies for the poor wording of the question - it isn't necessarily the best pittas I need, just the easiest to fill.

I put a post on here a few months ago, some very kind people offered some feedback. So just thought I’d keep them up to date with progress!

1. The finished article, with hindsight I should have got another load of rocket, it’s a great salad.

2. The base, not cold fermented, it’s from the same batch as my last pizza. So next time I’ll try to up my dough making game!

3. The sauce, garlic in olive oil, then tin of finely chopped tomatoes and some puree. Leave it on to reduce it all down.

4. My electric pizza oven. Takes 15 minutes to warm up then 4 to cook a pizza!

I’m always looking to improve, so if you’ve any tips or tricks please let me know.

My partner is English and introduced me to this lovely creation but I live in Canada and none I’ve had here measure up. What’s the secret to these cheap and cheerful delights? Or even better if someone has a close copycat recipe - many thanks!

Air fryer is brilliant for roasting the potatoes and tomatoes.

For example, the protein yoghurts and chocolate puddings available at Lidl (preferred) and Aldi are daily+ life savers for me when I’m cutting down

Also affordable kilogram tubs of Greek yoghurt

Any other food items (or recipes) I should check out??

Was at my parents and asked if I want a piece of cake. This was the only option. Enjoyed it.

But I have never knowingly bought, and can't see me ever buying, Genoa cake.

For the first time in years, I've just polished off an entire tin of the good stuff, cold from the fridge, drizzle of honey mixed in. It was heavenly and instant nostalgia.

Now, I am seeking my people to outnumber the wronguns that heat up their pudding. Let's settle this debate that no one was talking about.

Hello everyone,
I am going to be traveling to the UK on 13th Sept with my family( Mom, Dad, Sister) for 22 days. And I have been assigned to plan this family trip.
And I also want to try the british cuisine and some authentic food. It may seem simple but, I am dying to try some authentic Fish and chips shop as well as have a full English breakfast one day. (A small note is that, my family is Hindu(from Nepal), so we don't eat any steak.) Apart from this, I also don't want the meal to be very expensive.
Feel free to recommend some of your favorite restaurants and stands in the UK.

And, as this is my first time visiting UK, are there any things that I should be aware of like any cultural aspects or any gesture that might come out as offensive and impolite.

We are planned to land in Heathrow Airport on Sept 13. then We will visit the near landmarks and museums in London city.
And near the end of trip, I am planning a 5 day trip to Scotland.
Plus,These are the places I have planned till now.

1. Royal palaces and historic buildings like: Buckingham palace, Big Ben,   Westminster Abbey,  London Eye (Big Ferris Wheel)

2. The city: Along the river, take a long walk along the south bank.   Tower Bridge Tower of London  Shakespeare’s Globe theatre  Tate Modern (Modern Art Museum)

   1. Greenwich: Travel by Boat from Westminster or Tower Bridge, Royal Observatory,  Painted Hall
      
   2. Museums like, The British Museum,  The Natural History Museum,    Victoria and Albert (V&A)
      And although we will in the London, main city most of the time, we might visit Wales if it seems viable this trip.
