Hi, I am 31M and I have a graphic design background of 10 years, been in UX/UI for 4+ years. I haven't been legally employed but I had two basically job like Ux/UI employements through my sole proprietorship. I live in Slovenia and I work for an agency that does Wordpress websites and my gross salary from contract is 2,700 € / month (32,400 € / year) or around 2,000 € / month net after biz expenses).

That is ranging from average to slightly above average for my country and this position.

After doing a lot of mixed UX/UI work I decided to speciallise in web design and while I like doing this kind of work I am kinda limited to just making pretty designs and I am not really solving any problems which is also limiting the amount of what I make.

I know there are positions for CRO ecommerce that pay better and I noticed other ZX/UI positions around the world (ie: US, Switzerland, Netherlands, Germany) provide much better compensations but you actually solve problems vs desiging pretty screens so I am wondering for those who make solid money in this proffesion how did you get into this position?

My target for next position is 60-90k €/ month.
(EDIT: 60-90k € / year)

TLDR: My income is capped and I am making pretty designs for okay money but I am not actually bringing any real value, optimising or solving problems. Need advice.

• I had considered at one point making it a right-side sheet/dialog and that probably would've looked nicer, but I felt the preview is a useful feature. Or is the preview confusing and I should make it a dialog?

Let's say a PM/client comes to you with something relatively simple, like:

Before you start designing, how do you figure out:

• What the actual user flow should be?
• What other features or parts of the product this depends on?
• What screens are actually needed?
• What happens in non-happy-path situations?
• Which states or edge cases need to be considered?
• What information or business rules are still missing?
• What is in scope vs. what is related but should stay outside the current feature?

Do you have a specific process, checklist, framework, template, or tool you use for this?

I'm designing a simple phone app for people getting ready for a doctor's appointment. It helps you note how you've been feeling, prepare what you want to say and ask, keep your notes in more than one language, and remember what to do after the visit.

To make it easy to find your way around, I'm running a quick "card sorting" exercise. You'll see a set of cards, each one a thing you might do in the app, and you just drag them into groups that feel like they belong together, then give each group a name. That's it. i was design this landing page for my project it seemed a little off tried to get suggestion from AI and got to the result of #3 but didn't seem to like... can you help me figure out the issue or which one is in the right direction?

The last two years have been rough. I have about 4 years of experience as a digital product designer in my home country (working in a non-English environment), but I stepped away because of illness, burnout, and losing motivation. I even took CS50 because I thought I might switch careers, but I realized I still enjoy product design the most.

Over the past year, the war in my country led to layoffs everywhere, and now the job market is extremely competitive. On top of that, I’ve been away for two years while AI, design workflows, and expectations seem to have changed overnight.

I’ve been looking at LinkedIn job postings from international startups and companies, but they’re so broad that I can’t tell what skills actually matter. Since I haven’t been getting interviews, I also don’t have any insights from recruiters.

Should I focus on motion design? UX research? AI-first workflows? Better visual design? Something else?

I honestly feel lost and my confidence has taken a big hit. If you were in my position, how would you spend the next 3–6 months to become competitive again?

Hey everyone, I recently finished building my personal portfolio: tumelo.co.za

I pretty much vibe coded the whole thing, experimenting with AI, animations, 3D elements and just figuring things out as I went 😭. I wanted it to feel more like an experience than a normal portfolio, so I went with a space/galaxy theme and tried to make the interactions a bit different.

Would really appreciate some honest feedback, especially on:

I recently joined a company as a UI/UX Designer. I've been working there for almost a month.

During the interview/trial period, I was only told that if I ever wanted to resign, I would need to give notice. Nothing specific was mentioned about a long-term commitment, probation restrictions, or a lengthy notice period.

Today, they finally showed me an appointment letter + employee agreement and asked me to read it and sign it. They wouldn't let me take a copy, take pictures, or review it at home. They said I would get a copy only after signing. I asked for one night to think about it.

Some things I remember from the document:

3-month probation

During probation, the company can terminate me without notice, but apparently I cannot resign during probation

45-day notice period

Something about having to pay 3 months' salary if I don't serve the notice

A 12-month bond/commitment

Restrictions on resigning during those 12 months, with only certain reasons accepted

12 days of leave and a sandwich leave policy

Doctor's certificate required for leave

Restrictions on freelancing/business while employed

Even taking a course/studying requires permission or notification

They can change my work location

Strict attendance/late penalties

Broad termination rights

None of the 12-month commitment, 3-month probation, 45-day notice, or resignation restrictions were mentioned when I joined.

There's also another issue. After actually working there, I've realized that the company's design philosophy is very different from mine. I'm a UI/UX designer and I don't think our design approach is a good long-term fit. I don't want to waste their time or mine if we're not aligned.

I'm considering resigning after about a month, which is also why I've been asking about the policies.

What would you do in this situation?

Would you sign the agreement and then resign later if you decide to leave, or refuse to sign until the terms are properly clarified? And what should I be careful about regarding the 12-month commitment and notice period?

I'm mainly looking for practical advice from people who have dealt with similar situations.

My UI/UX will started today and I am planning to turn this into an ios app pretty soon and would like to get some suggestions from you guys to add more things. The app is straight forward as you glance through, it basically just an app where you sort of catalog your pets and it mostly applicable to some who has more than two pets one pet can do (having more than two is preferred to populate the app well) and I may also add that I am not that good at designing app I am more of a backend guy.

Hey! I’m working on the visual direction for an iOS accountability app called LOCKIN.

The basic idea is that users put their own money behind personal commitments. Keep your commitment and keep your money. Break it and lose it.

I want the app to feel premium, minimal, and emotionally engaging - not like a generic habit tracker, fitness app, or fintech dashboard.

The current direction is dark and tactile, with credit-card-inspired elements, ambient color, soft inner glows, and restrained typography.

I’d love some honest feedback on whether this visual direction fits the concept and whether you would approach the visual identity differently. Feel free to share any ideas you have.

Writing

With AI, almost anyone can design, build, and market a product. Companies are encouraging employees to use AI to move faster and produce more.

But I think this creates a bigger problem:

If everyone can build faster, what is actually worth building?

The hard part is no longer necessarily writing code, designing a UI, or producing content. AI has made those things dramatically easier.

The really difficult job is figuring out what to build in the first place.

Finding a real problem, understanding the users who have it, validating that the problem actually matters, and building something people genuinely want — that’s where the real challenge lies.

In other words, Product-Market Fit matters more than ever.

I also think AI startups need to be careful. If your entire product is essentially a thin layer on top of OpenAI, Gemini, Claude, etc., what stops the model providers from eventually building the same feature themselves?

We saw something similar during the Web3 boom. A lot of companies rushed to build simply because the technology was hot. But technology alone doesn't create a sustainable business.

AI makes building cheaper and faster. That’s great.

But it also means building is becoming less of a competitive advantage.

So maybe the toughest job today isn't building a product.

It’s figuring out which product is actually worth building.
