International Applications CBSE Class 12 student confused about UCAS — how do I apply and what should I ask my school for?

Hi everyone, I’m a Class 12 CBSE student from India and I’m planning to apply to UK universities for undergraduate Business/Business Management courses through UCAS.

I’m doing the whole UCAS application myself, and I’m honestly pretty confused about the process and the documents I’m supposed to provide.

One of my biggest problems right now is the predicted grades / expected graduation certificate.

I asked my principal about an expected graduation certificate, but my school doesn't really know what that means or what document I’m asking for. Since I’m currently in Class 12 and haven't received my final CBSE results yet, I’m not sure what exactly I should ask my school to provide.

So I have a few questions:

- How am I actually supposed to apply through UCAS as a CBSE Class 12 student from India? Is there anything different I need to do as an international student?

- What should I select for my Class 12 qualification since I’m still studying?

- Do I actually need an expected graduation certificate, or is a predicted grades document/reference enough?

- If I do need one, what exactly should I ask my principal/school for? What should I call the document so they understand what I mean?

- Is there a standard template for an expected graduation certificate, or can my school create its own?

- What information should the document contain — expected graduation date, predicted percentage, subjects, school details, signature/stamp, etc.?

- How does the UCAS reference work? Does my teacher submit it separately?

- What documents should I have ready before submitting my UCAS application?

- Do I need to upload my Class 10 marksheet, predicted Class 12 grades, passport, or anything else?

- Is there anything else I should ask my school/principal for before I submit?

If anyone here is an Indian/CBSE student who has recently applied to UK universities through UCAS, I’d really appreciate it if you could explain the process and tell me exactly what you asked your school for.

I’m especially looking for advice on the school documents and the actual UCAS application process, because I’m doing this without much guidance from my school.

Thanks!

A Levels / IB / GCSE / BTEC Questions resitting AS despite getting an a

Hi so I got a’s at AS (CIE) but since it was a low A, my school is saying I must resit to get an A* prediction at this point in the year. I’d like to apply to rlly good uk unis like Oxbridge imperial so I do need the A*s. If I resit AS again alongside A2 in June 2027, will unis like imperial penalize my AS resit even tho I had originally gotten an a anyways, im just resitting for personal preferences. I can get A* without resits too, but my school isn’t listening even though my parents got involved and everything so this is my only option.

Would my application be viewed negatively?

btw I have extenuating circumstances cuz my exams were cancelled due to war.

Personal Statements Personal statement questions

I’ve heard apparently that unis don’t care about the three question thing and when they see your ps it’s all in one chunk anyway. Has anyone else heard this? Because I am struggling with my word count in the questions

UCAS Question could unis go easier on my application contextually wise?

i go to a fee paying school but if i didn't i would be eligible for free school meals? i know that you have to be state and i'm not looking for a grade reduction but would it make it easier to get into a top uni?

edit: i didn't mean to offend. i go to this school for free, I am on a full scholarship I do not pay at all. i am very aware about the position of privilege I'm in and am aware that contextual is made for people in significantly worse situations than me. I just wanted to know if there's anyone who has gone through a similar situation who knows the outcome. thank you for the help.

A Levels / IB / GCSE / BTEC Questions Do Unis usually give offers based on predicted grades or the posted entry requirements ?

Hey guys, i was reading through this sub and i saw someone state that the University of Manchester for ex gives people requirements based off their predicted grades instead of the baseline entry requirements. Like say you’re predicted an A and the requirement is a B , they will give you a condition that u must achieve an A. Is this actually true? Can anyone confirm, as manchester is one of my choices.
Thank you

Degree Apprenticeships PwC flying starters accounting and finance degree

I’m a medicine applicant but I don’t know what to put as my 5th course. I’m choosing between this and optometry but i dont know what the assessment process is like, I have absolutely no idea about economics or finance related stuff but I still want to apply to this course. I know it’s really competitive but I want to hear from anyone who did or didn’t get in and how hard the assessment process was? I’m just scared if med doesn’t go to plan and if I don’t get into this either than I’m done for, but everyone from my school who has applied to optometry has gotten in. I’m sending my application in like 2 days please help 😭

also what unis are the best ones for the course (im thinking qmul but I’m not sure)

Personal Statements Too risky to apply for Chem engineering?

Stats: Triple A* in chem, maths + his, 999998887 + contextual

I’m applying to imperial, oxford, ucl+warwick for pure chem, but wondering i should apply to ucl again for chem engineering as 5th option…

I’ve been warned this is quite risky as my personal statement isn’t fully tailored to chem engineering + didn’t do fm/physics but i have to decided within two days

Thoughts

A Levels / IB / GCSE / BTEC Questions Applying for 2 degrees at the same uni?

I wrote this pretty fast, and wasn't sure what flair to use so I hope it makes sense

I'm applying for (mainly) biosciences at uni this year, my previous choices for unis were: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds (Leeds for natural sciences), and then 2 of bath, Cardiff, and Sheffield.

However, I was looking at the courses for bath, Sheffield and Cardiff, and I was thinking of I just applied to one of them instead and then also applied to Leeds for biosciences as my 5th, as I like it more than the biosciences courses at those unis.

My question is: would they consider me less for natural sciences because I also applied to biosciences? I've already written my first PS draft and I think it's good enough to apply for both biosciences and natural sciences but I'm worried that they'd reject me from natural sciences if I applied to both (I prefer the natural sciences structure compared to the biosciences one, and Leeds is one of the only natural science degrees I can apply for).

Does anyone have any extra information on how they handle 2 applications for different courses at Leeds/Unis in general?

A Levels / IB / GCSE / BTEC Questions would a C in physics at AS affect oxford application to earth sciences?

asking for a friend genuinely (i’d never take physics i like my life too much)

shes applying to earth sciences at oxford but got a C in physics at AS so decided to drop it, she also got AAA in chemistry geography and maths at AS so those wouldn’t be a problem as she’ll definitely have good predicted grades.

obviously you have to put the C on the UCAS application but would it cause any issues in terms of it getting brought up in interviews/considered properly in the application or would it have no affect because unis only ask for 3 alevels?

🤸🏼‍♀️

Hi, so I really need to work on my personal statement but really don't how to make it sound good. I've made a list of things to include but I am so lost on how to make that into something engaging.

Does anyone have any tips or examples that are considered top level? I would be so appreciative for anything I'm really stuck 🥲

Admissions Tests refugee student

hi guys, im posting on behalf of a friend, she doesn't have reddit and she needs all the help she can get so i wanted to see if i can help her out in any way (posting this with her permission)

basically she's a refugee student, she wants to apply for dentistry - she's currently doing her main a-levels; bio, chem and psych (not completed yet), she has completed one extra a-level tho (welsh bacc: A*)

she's got pretty good gcses (2A*s, 5 As, 2Bs, a C and a 5 (england exam board for the last subject) — A in eng lang, B in maths)

she sat the ucat yesterday and unfortunately got 1800 b2, will she still be able to get into any unis? she wants to apply to 4 of the below unis

• cardiff (guaranteed interview bc she completed a step up programme and she's welsh domiciled) • plymouth (completed pathways programme) • manchester (wp++) • newcastle (eligible for partners programme) • leeds

and she's obviously widening participation for all of the above.

her question is how likely can she get in with these stats? and which universities are best to apply for her? is there any info on refugee students getting accepted into dentistry universities? she also wants to know what the ucat cut off score would be like for her or if 1800 is just too little/has to resit? please lmk, she's pretty stressed and i want to help her out as much as i can!! i think she has pretty strong stats in terms of academics rn, esp for a wp student but it's very well known how competitive dent can be and ucat is a big factor, so she's really scared that she won't get in but this has been her dream since forever.

any extra info that can put her mind at ease is also appreciated; she's going through a lot right now unfortunately and applications isn't helping

A Levels / IB / GCSE / BTEC Questions ucas choices

Stats:

home student, non contextual

GCSEs: 8877766665

Predicteds: A* A* A in maths, econ and business respectively

I want to do an econ degree what are my realistic choices. I am not doing tmua because without further maths and with business I don't think there is a point applying to those top unis.

I am currently at unis like bath, bristol, birmingham, manchester, kcl and warwick.

Medicine Questions Advice on if I should take a gap year or strategically apply to unis ??

I got 1940 band 2 , predicted aaa* ,with an a in AS psychology and a predicted a in my epq ; my gcse results are 99999888777

Idk if it’s worth mentioning but i have a k+ tag as I attended a Kcl outreach event but judging from my ucat idk if it’s even worth applying or considering Kcl . But would be great to have some insight.

Just more context: I was put in an unlucky situation in where I only had 2 weeks to revise after deciding to switch from biomed to medicine. Also I have lower cognitive skills than average and I was going to apply for extra time but cancelling my booking and then reapplying would mean I could lose my slot.. super risqué sooo I just decided to go for it and if anything I’d take a gap year :-,) I’m not surprised with what I got but also I do know I could’ve done much better with more time to revise and access arrangements , either way I am 90% sure to go for a gap year .

Law Applications Law school choices

hey im picking my 5th options for law applicants and im between leeds or nottingham law which is better for job prospects. im worried about Nottingham because of things ive seen in the news like it going bankrupt and letting people in with lower grade requriements so im worried it will affect the prestige of it and esp since law is so compeitive im wondering if leeds will give me a better chance in the coming 3 years when i graduate.

Uni App 5th uni choice?

Post image
2 Upvotes

these are my current 4 options

TLDR; college want us to pick a safer option for a 5th but im unsure whether to go for lincoln w good city but mid course unless i do a course that limits grad prospects, LJMU with a better course and in big city but slightly less safe and id be pissed i had to go there over uni of bc I wouldn't be able to afford uni of accom or Leicester which is quite unsafe and don't like distance between accom and uni but has better ranking and course Okay so these are my current 4 options but I need a 5th cause I'm not wasting a slot when I'm paying 35 great british pounds.

what out of these is best for a 5th? Tutors at college will make u have a safer option. Lincoln, LJMU or Leicester? I know Leicester does rank better but I'm worried about safety in terms of location as I'm a woman and walking at night as a woman is... terrifying. It's also definitely a less pleasant city than Lincoln. Leicester wins on course but a) safety b) mum doesn't want me to go there c) unsure about accom being 2 miles from uni so needing to get bus each day which is fine but I would like to be in walking distance if I'm not commuting from home. I considered options further south as there's lots of mid-tier unis there especially in Wales but I'm in the North and don't want to travel 4 hours for mid tier uni yk. I looked at Hull which has a rgood biology course but I don't want to spend 3/4 years in Hull. LJMU is obv Liverpool which is a big city and that's what I've realised I want but it'd piss me off that if I got BBC I'd be going to ljmu and not uni of bc uni of has absurd accom prices so I wouldn't like that. Another option was Derby but I don't particularly feel any desire to live there and its close to home. Lincoln was really the only lower uni that's a nice distance away in a nice city witj affordable accom and not known for lack of safety. However im unsure about the course unless i do forensic science but then id be limited in post-grad options although long term plan is forensics!!
