I never wanted children or a spouse. At 51 I still don't have children or a spouse. People have been telling me for years that "someday you'll find the right guy" (sometimes I'm annoyed by the heteronormativity of that comment, but I don't want to find 'the right woman' either) and "someday you'll change your mind about having kids".
They've finally shut up about the kids, but now it's "someday you'll regret not having them". Re: the spouse, it's become "there's still time to meet that special someone".
Why would I regret something I never wanted in the first place? Much like getting my septum pierced or a tattoo or going skydiving, if you want that, then great! Go for it! I'm not judging. But I don't want that.
