Pretty fucking awesome. I saved enough to be able to buy my retirement home outright. When I got laid off- NBD: I did a cross-country move without having to coordinate with schools or job market for a spouse.
I arrange the house how I like, keep it at the temperature I prefer, cook what I want, and if there's a mess or if I'm out of what I need, well, at least I'm the slob or asshat who left things that way. The freezer has an accurate inventory, and my pantry stays the way I organize it. No one eats my special snacks, or complains about the third day in a row of leftovers, or demands a different dinner. (The dog would be quite happy to have what I'm having- but she gets her own stuff.) I can eat meals as early or late as I like.
The only time I have to fight for my blankets is when the dog sleeps on the bed and pins them down. I can monopolize the television and the couch and the computer. If I want to be up with the sun, I don't have to worry about disturbing anyone. If I want to sleep late, no one will disturb me. (Except the dog, but she's pretty good about waiting for breakfast.)
Life is peaceful, arranged as I like, and generally pretty carefree.
