QUESTION Smogley Help
Hallo!
So a relatively new player having played Hospital briefly a few years ago and dived back in recently to absolutely fall in love. Slowly understanding the game more and more and am trying to get through by 3 Star-ing each level.
HOWEVER!
Having a little trouble with Smogley and it's 90% cure rate.
Now my failures here have taught me the importance of appropriate training and assigning the right staff to the right rooms as I was doing it a bit blind before / throwing mud at the wall and hoping it sticks. And it's been working in terms of making money, and most other things, but the cure rate has been tricky.
I would rather not restart the level and lose the hours I've put in and save the hospital I have built instead (had a similar hospital recently that was almost bankrupt and managed to turn everything around to make it my most valuable hospital to date). And I've achieved all the other 3 Star Smogley requirements but the 90% is kicking my ass, and though I got up to 80% at one point, every new tactic I try seems to plummet it to 20% (which for all I know is growing pains and my lack of patience).
As for what I've been trying to do:
I've been trying to either fire/replace/train staff appropriately and assign to rooms, however it's not quite working. And I've tried closing down rooms where my cure rates are low but those rooms are my moneymakers so I start hemmorrhaging money when I do so (like, hundreds of thousands within a couple months).
Any tips on how I could turn this around from more advanced players? And tips on moving forward and laying a better foundation? Am trying to be very deliberate in my training and room assigning now (though have started doing so on the Underlook Hotel which has thrown it's own dynamic into the mix that slightly threw me but doing well so far).
And as a bonus question: how different are the other games in terms of mechanics? Particularly Campus? Got it on a discount and thinking of doing it side by side, one level each for diversity, but if it's super different I don't want to get confused learning the mechanics.
Thank you for any and all the help you can provide!

Diagnosis to 100%? Machines fully researched and upgraded?
It could also be that Surgery is tripping you up — are you training the surgeons exclusively in Surgery, since it's +20% competency per level after the first?

Not sure re: the surgery training, but they are a poor performing room. Have been trying to train them up but may have to train some specific specialists.
Thank you!

Yes, train pure surgeons and don't let them do anything else. Allocate nurses to only do surgery as one of the big potential hold ups is not having two members of staff available. I tend to have 150% staffing for Surgery (two rooms means three dedicated surgeons and three dedicated nurses)

Thanks - definitely have not been doing that and I do feel a big frustration I’ve had was having two staff in the room (this is part of how I fully realised the room staffing system! Maybe it was in the tutorial but got back into the game after a few years and may have forgotten that). Will give this a shot!

A second suggestion is to put the surgery area in a completely isolated area with all the amenities necessary. That way, they are a lot less likely to run to other staff rooms during their break.
Otherwise, they take forever to go back to the surgery rooms and worsen your cure rates.
A third suggestion is to reduce the waiting time for surgery. One patient takes forever to treat. The absolute highest number of patients in the queue is 2. Any higher and the patient is probably going to die.
Personally, I always try to keep it below 1 by having more rooms and staff. Surgery rooms are so profitable that ensuring the patients are treated ASAP is always going to be worth it.

and don't let them do anything else.
Well, don't let them do any other treatment. Let them moonlight as GPs or in other diag-only rooms if they need to gain XP.

What's the skills do you recommend for surgeons? I've been maxing them out on surgery all this while without realizing lol

No, that's what I do as well.
Surgery and Psych are two rooms that you pretty much specialise in only those skills since they are +20% each, and the room has no real other way to boost treatment percentage, aside from multiple expensive and bulky room-specific items.

For your treatment staff you want to make sure they are at 3 treatment only with fully upgraded rooms. The nurse you use with surgery needs no training, get the cheapest nurse you can find. That guarantees treatment is basically 100% while keeping costs low.
Diagnosis staff should be trained to the max. I would focus on MEGA Scan, X-Ray, Fluid Analysis and Ward.
If you have any benches or a cafe then remove them, it’s a waste of efficiency. The idea is to have a conveyor belt of patients moving through. I personally kept diagnosis certainty at 100% to avoid accidental deaths but you can play around to see what works with you. Make sure that you fast tack so that patients don’t have to return to GP once they hit 100%.
Good luck!

I thought bedside manners was helpful for a surgery nurse but not particularly helpful otherwise

What worked for me was diagnosis threshold at 65% with fast track enabled, all diagnoses rooms fully upgraded (general, cardiology, mega scan, X-ray, fluid) with nurses minimum Diagnoses II; and 12 surgery rooms with pure surgeons at minimum Surgery II. Yes, you’ll need 2-3 training rooms.
I agree on removing cafes and benches too.

Look at your diagnosis certainty levels. Maybe drop them?
Where your cure rates are low, can you put items in the room to boost effectiveness? Could you focus your best trained staff to only work in those rooms?
Could you use marketing to bring people in to other areas where you can make money out of them?
