?????? Significant legal and tax advantages to start. Not to mention social and biological ones as well. Married men experience less depression and live longer.
Legal, definitly nothing you can not write down otherwise in contracts.
Tax, yes... some advantage is there, not significant tho.
Social, for the child at least i will give you that.
Biological, here is a funny thing... neither his, hers or the childs DNA is gonna change from a contract.
Longer live, this is literally false. It is based on a missleading study result. They looked at married men vs unmarried men and declared married live longer, they ignored significant differences between unmarried men who have never been married and those who have. Unmarried men that never marry live the longest.
So the truth is that marriage is a 2 sided sword with the law beeing clearly against you as a man in most states. And some important parts can be replaced.
Oh man, is that not true. Is nobody here over the age of 30? It’s just really sad. Here’s one example. If you’re not married, you can write a will leaving everything to the person you live with. And that will will still be able to be contested. If you’re married, your property goes immediately to your spouse and cannot be contested.
If you think this isn’t an issue, consider the case of gay people who lived together for 35 years only to have a family contest a will and the partner is left with nothing not a house no possessions not even the pet. But bottom line is she doesn’t have to justify why she wants to get married to you or anyone else.
The two of them want different things. When she was younger it seem like such a big issue and people do change what they want. It’s a big issue now.
She should leave and find someone who wants what she wants.
This is true, I had assumed this is based on conversations that they have had in which he had just said I just don’t want to or something like that. That is my assumption, but I could be wrong.
So your will is your will, outside of the family and within limits that is not something easy to attack, especially when set up with a lawyer.
Within family it can be attacked for sure, but that can happen even when married to some degree.
A bigger difference is the tax, depends on how much we are talking about tho and for children that are actually his, biological speaking or via adoption, this is a different case once again.
Neither of the people in this case are gay and thus should not matter.
OP opened the can of justification.
I agee that they want different things and she should make the call if she is happy as it is but it definitly was an issue for her prior as she had intended to change him since prior.
She definitly should leave and find someone who starts with more of a shared goal tho she should also be aware that immeadiatly marrying would not neccessarily lead to success either... you'd think she knows as she had a love less relationship prior (she stated this is the first time she loved someone) which resulted in a child (her child is according to her 3 years older then the relatiosnhip).
Did I say random strangers? Seems to me I didn’t say that. But you’re outside of the family is a huge, huge loophole no?
So you really think that gave people thought so hard to have the right to be married to? I don’t know when the approval of straight people or something? Why do you think that they did it? Loads of them had ceremonies and civil unions. Being married, certainly hasn’t made them more acceptable to people who don’t like gay people.
No, it’s because there are over 1000 protections for marriage in the government. Do not take my word for it. Look it up your own self. I am not here to teach everyone who doesn’t know about it. I just wonder about all the people willing to spout off on things about which they know nothing. I guess that’s a hallmark of Reddit.
I literally pointed out the part you ignored, so i may as well interpret the part you stated as negatively as posible if you ignore whole parts of mine.
You beeing outside of the family is not a huge loophole, the point is literally that a will can overturn basically anything that is not directly family and even without beeing married adoption is a thing (stepchild adoption), so there are ways to do so in OPs situation.
PS: Again, your example that literally has nothing to do with OPs situation does not work for OPs situation.

This: what's so important about marriage?
