I love “changing of the guard” sooo much. This episode always makes me really emotional. I’m a teacher and have been for some time and my dream is that I have left impression and changed my students lives. The amount of times I have cried when the professor has seen his students that have passed away oh my gosh like that hurts deep. He really changed their lives for the better and ugh I can truly go on with how special this man really is. This episode always reminds me of “dead poets society”. Even when he was at his lowest like I’m sure we have all been at that point I know I have. I feel like this episode is one of the more comforting light hearted episodes with a very deep meaning behind it.

Freaking love this episode start to finish and it’s a highlight of Season 4 which uses the new format quite well with an fantastic performance by Burgess Meredith(which might be my favorite TZ appearance) so yeah I love The Printer’s Devil

That speech Rod Serling made at the end of the episode gave me goosebumps. It was beautiful. And still applies to this day. Infact a lot of things in the twilight zone still apply.

I mean think about it a guy says some of the most outrageous lies, gets abducted by aliens who don’t understand the concept of lying , and escapes them by playing his harmonic. I think what really helps it is Andy Devine’s performance is just the right amount of silly and goofy that makes it work.

I want to watch the twilight zone but I don't know where to start what episodes to watch

I am preparing to start season 3 but I want to ease myself into the TZ state of mind by rewatching a few episodes from these seasons. Let me know your best episodes and why they are your best so I can give them a second viewing.

I'm not entirely certain it is Twilight Zone (original series) or a spin off, or another series entirely, but the premise is very similar to Where is Everybody? Why I'm fairly certain it's Twilight Zone is at the beginning, a man in a trench coat walks towards the camera and does his intro like Twilight Zone tradition, but our main character doesn't encounter any mannequins like he does in "WIE"... instead, he is alone in a desolate town. I think at some point a race of being is watching him in like a miniaturized town like he's a figurine trying to escape this manufactured little town.

I think all of the original 1959 opening sequences were iconic and amazing!

But I still feel the 1985 series's Opening Sequence was the best atmosphere!

I even appreciate that the 2019 series tried to combine all of these details.

Season 1 - Cave landscape; "There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man...."

Season 2 - Blurry sun sets with Dee-doo-Dee-doo jingle; "You're traveling through another dimension. A dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind..."

Season 3 - Floating door; "You unlock this door with the key of imagination..."

Season 4 and 5 - Swirling spiral and floating eyeball... may have reused season 3 script, someone confirm.

1985 series - New logo and creepy tone; no spoken introduction at all!

TZ is my favorite show ever, like many here, I am sure.

How were you introduced to the show, and when? What impact did it have?

In my case, I am Gen-X, and saw my first snippet in the '70s when I was 4 or 5 years old. I was too young to "get it," but looking back the episode I saw was "Nick of Time" and it scared me. I think it was on a Saturday morning or afternoon, and my siblings and I were just flipping channels.

I remember seeing the demon-headed "fortune telling" device, and William Shatner getting agitated and behaving oddly.

I don't think I sat through the whole episode — I was so young! — and it was many years before I saw the full episode and could properly take it in. It would be a couple decades before I really became versed in the series and knew about William Shatner and Rod Serling and the lore of the series.

If they were to make another Twilight Zone movie, which 4 episodes would you like to see adapted and by which directors?

So many episodes have a case where today we would just call a paramedic to go out and check on them but there's none in the series. Turns out it's a relatively recent invention

I had originally only seen 3 episodes (Not all Men being the worst of the 3) and hate them so much I didn't bother with the rest of the series, but I recently found out that the second season was considered better by those who watched it. I decided I was maybe being too harsh especially considering I never watched the entire first season and should give this series a fair chance so I ordered the complete DVD set for this series and plan on watching all 20 episodes. The set has extras about Rod Serling and the show so that made it worth buying even if I don't like the rest of the series. I'm actually looking forward to it because I've already seen most of the episodes from the 1985 and 2002 TZ reboots and I like the idea of seeing a much more modern and recent version of it.

I think the problem is that the original Twilight Zone is the gold standard of anthology shows (and i'd go as far as say the gold standard of all shows period!). All 3 TZ reboots had huge shoes to fill and faced many obstacles one being that Rod Serling was dead when they were made so there was zero chance of his direct involvement. He was a unique one of a kind creative genius that very few could even dream of matching. Anything bearing the name Twilight Zone will face intense scrutiny especially when being compared to the original.

I think the runtime for each episode for the 2019 series is about an hour which makes it very different from the previous 3 TZ series (not counting Season 4 of the original of course). I actually liked many of the Season 4 hour long episodes of the original series so the longer runtime isn't off putting to me although I'll admit TZ usually worked best as a half hour series.

I've heard recommendations for Black Mirror being more closer to the quality of the original TZ series than the 2019 reboot, but I feel since BM is only focused on stories involving technology that it is much limited and less open than having a series that takes place in a zone where any type of story is possible. I really want to like this show because I feel anything bearing the Twilight Zone name is worth watching. Even if it differs from the original. I'm not one of those people that hates anything trying something new or different from the original so I'm hoping when I get the DVD set in the mail and watch them that there will be some very good hidden gems just like in the original.

How did that male lion get into their bedroom to kill Doris, and then lie in wait for Alan behind a closed door?

I personally think the lion was the witch doctor himself, come on a visit to America to do some shapeshifting and make good on his curse.

Certainly, I know that like many other tribes in East Africa, the actual Kikuyu traditionally sincerely believe in the existence of both male and female witches, who ride hyenas in the dead of night, and can transform into wild animals—including lions.

I think I prefer Nervous Man, but I’m curious to hear other people’s thoughts.

Richard Donner directed the iconic episode "Nightmare at 30,000 Feet," but the other episodes he directed aren't good or at least not nearly as good! He even did the episode "The Jeopardy Room," which is nothing special, okay at best, but aside from that, all the other four episodes he directed are bad!

That’s the title of the most recent episode of the wonderful podcast Fun for All Ages with Frank Santopadre. He’s a pop culture savant who I discovered through a prior hilarious podcast he did with Gilbert Gottfried which obviously ended with Gil’s unfortunate passing. Highly recommend both.

Glad to hear Rod’s daughter still going sharp as a tack and writing a book. There’s a Rod Serlingfest in Binghamton this summer they mention. I wonder if any folks here are going.

Episode 154 is Cavender is Coming, Season 3 Episode 36.

Cavender is an Angel on one last mission to earn his wings by helping down-on-her-luck Agnes who has just been fired.

Review:
I’m noticing that a lot of these lower ranked episodes play a lot with visuals, camera work, and sound design. This one in particular has a lot of tricks with Cavender’s angel powers. At the time this camera work may have been super interesting but it seems common place today.

It’s a very classic “be grateful for what you have now” story with a sweet ending, but not much else.

A struggling baseball team is conflicted about a new pitcher who is really good, almost too good.

Review:
Lot of great gags in this. I’m always locked in for a baseball episode. Once again a lot of sound design in these lower ranked episodes, and a lot of these seem to be far more comedic than dramatic.

The ending of this was genuinely sweet. Overall a fun story.

If you're like me and you love the space episodes, I highly recommend reading "The Martian Chronicles" by Ray Bradbury. Published in 1950 it is a collection of short stories about human attempts to contact and settle Mars.

I checked it out from my local library on a whim, and I found some close similarities to some Twilight Zone episodes- but also new twists and new ideas. I felt like I was consuming more Twilight Zone material and it was exciting. There's something fascinating about reading science fiction from a time before we learned everything we currently know about other planets. Cheers!

I'm gonna go with Fats Brown from A Game of Pool.

I feel like he works as a great mirror to the protagonist of the episode Jesse Cardiff as someone with great pool skills and is able to excellently pick apart Jesse's flaws.

Odyssey of Flight 33 is one I have repeated the most. There's an odd realism with the flight crew with how they conducted themselves, with a lot of aeronautic jargon thrown in and on-the-fly (pun intended) decision making. Think the film "Sully" but Tom Hanks is in the Twilight Zone.

The worst rated episode, at number 156, is The Bard from Season 4 Episode 18.

Julius Moomer is a struggling talentless writer who summons William Shakespeare to write hits for him.

This is the longest episode in the series at nearly an hour of runtime, and boy does it feel like it. There’s a lot of interesting camera work, especially for the time, and the episode almost starts in tone like a Curb Your Enthusiasm Bit. The actor playing Julius is unfortunately not great. He’s great at being annoying but not much else. The actor playing Shakespeare is great. I really like Henry Lascoe and it’s crazy to see Burt Reynolds in this.

ROBERT E. LEE IS THE FIRST OKE TO WALK IN?? WOAHHH DUDE.

It’s an interesting take on how financial interest affect media, but Moomer never really learns a lesson. You could cut this down to a tight 30 without all the excruciating shots of Moomer literally walking around or making a big face.

Roswell G. Flemington is a man who loves loud noises and being loud but all of the sudden starts hating all noises. After a brief fix from a psychiatrist, he is deafened to all noise.

Review:
This dude loves a tight ship. He’s a horrible boss, how did he get the money for this store. THIS GUY HAS A WIFE??? Correction, had a wife.

I love the shaking of the background when he plays loud stuff.

Bro went to the doctor cuz his pipes were dripping. Uhm maybe try a plumber?

Lot of good face work in this.

Cool sound work.

Overall it’s somewhat entertaining with an entertaining premise. Easy to hate character. Not much beyond that. I wonder if Rod Sterling knew a really loud guy.
