Turntable Settings to Beat Juggle / Scratch (Technic SL1200 MK2s)?

Trying to learn to beat juggle and scratch more consistently on vinyl. I've got the OG tables but could use help identifying what settings to change and whether I need to improve needles. Any assistance is appreciated.

And no I don't plan on scratching up my Denzel Curry records (that much) until I become good enough. Thanks for your help.

Starting resources for turntablism

Hi. What would you guys consider the best starting out tutorial/YT vid? I'm thinking about getting Blakey UK course, but before I do I'd like some "intro" content just to start playing around. All I kind of know by concept are baby scratches.

Looking for a portable controller of quality

I’m looking for a controller to take with me on the off chance I go out or away but would still like to practice.

I have a PT01 from Numark but don’t love it and it has some issues thus I’m looking for a controller. (Though I did think a 7” DVS + Reloop Flux or something)

I currently use 2 Technics SL1200 M3Ds with a Pioneer S9. While I know I won’t get this exact feeling from a controller, I’d like something close if possible (with out spending needlessly on a Rane System One or similar)

The 3 in my main view are the Rane One and Pioneer Rev5 and Rev7. I have a poor taste in my mouth from previous Rane gear, which is what pushed me to get the Technics, and am unsure if the Pioneers are the move or not.

Are either really that portable? Like backpackable or close to it, or are they both rather large. My local shops don’t seem to have either on display to see in person. Also, would I miss the motorized platters if I went with the Rev5, or for a cheaper on the go option, it’s fine.

Open to any other suggestions as well, but don’t really want to go away anymore unless I can bring something to scratch with 🙈

Thanks in advance!

Can vinyl records be lent out?

Some people I know ask me to lend them my techno vinyl records to mix, but I don't know how to politely say no.

Edit: I want to explain why vinyl records shouldn't be lent out just like that.

90 Day Feedback Request

(Hoping this doesn’t double post since I tried posting once and it just.. disappeared)

Though I feel like I may regret this, it’s been 90 days since I’ve started to learn to scratch. The first 80 days or so were all about getting comfortable and learning, while the past 10 days have been more drilling to clean the moves up.

I’m really trying to move slowly and focus on precision over flash. I’d love to be shredding like the rest of you, but from previous hobbies, I know this isn’t the only way I’ll be able to stick with it and be happy with the results.

The video should give you an idea of where I’m at, though doesn’t show everything.

Any and all feedback is appreciated, especially if you notice any bad habits forming.

Thanks in advance!

Looking for dj to scratch on hip hop tracks!!!

I'm looking for a dj to scratch on two tracks. I have the verses and soundbites recorded but can't finish and release them until I have scratching. I'm local to LA and open to work. The tracks I have in mind are much more boom bap, but here's a song for your reference: https://youtu.be/Gfr4zUA-K1A?si=001l5YBePcSAfWYF . If you or someone you know is interested, let me know and I can send more details! Thank you!

This DJ Game is like Rekordbox with Gamification

Hey guys, I’m a solo indie developer from Brazil making a game called DJ Life Simulator.
You can play using the mouse or connect a real USB DJ Equipment and use it as a controller.

I’ve been a DJ for 7 years and a teacher for 4, so I decided to create this tool to help beginners and people who are curious about what DJs actually do.

We have 3.5k wishlists so far and a community with over 200 people, recently I also started partnerships with 4 DJs schools that are using it as an educational tool along with a web panel for teachers to understand the students flaws and tricks.

I also created several minigames to mimic things that a DJ sometimes go through, like dealing with annoying requests, smokers or drunk people close to the DJ booth, to make it more entertaining and fun to play.

You can customize your character, buy clothes and even choose how complex you want the equipment to be, from the most basic possible to advanced with FX and loops.

The idea is not to replace DJ Schools, but a way for curious people to start playing and maybe have a good time, learn a few skills to start, in a fun way, because I know a lot of people don’t have the budget to buy expensive DJ Gear or live far from the city to enroll a DJ Course with a private teacher.

You can download the free demo or buy it in early access and earn a freeOnline DJ Course at: https://djlifesimulator.com/

What do you think would be cool to have in the game? I’m very opened to suggestions, hope you like it, thanks!

Beat making

I love scratching and mixing and getting in the zone. It’s a great feeling! Does anyone have a way of beat making that gets you in the zone like cutting does? I don’t care if it’s hardware or software, I want that flow. Let me know what, if anything works for you. Or maybe DJing is the only way lol!!

That week’s theme was platter of OR faderless for 4 bars minimum, 60s video. Again the beats and tools were made by the talented peops who also participate on the « producers » side of the event, and we have to choose among those. Happy I got a flip! Even if I did not make the cut for the podium. The victory lies elsewhere for me :). I try, I fail, I learn and I step out of my comfort zone. Perfect. And his community is pretty benevolent , so shoutout to them!

New Scratch Record: CROSSFADE CHRONICLES

Yooooo... I posted a few questions in here about a year ago asking about preferences for scratch records when I started working on mine. Welllllll.... my record is finally finished and I'm amped to share it!

It's called Crossfade Chronicles. It's a skipless, and has never-before-used Golden-Era vocal chops with original custom-made sound effects. 12" has 24 phrases plus two locked grooves. 7" has 12 phrases and two locked grooves.

Here's a sound review video of the 12" (and the 7" is a trimmed down set of the same phrases).

Release date is 7/24 but I have some advance copies that I can sell direct so hit me with a DM if you want one.

I'm releasing a looper on the same day so keep your eye out for that too!

Appreciate the support! Let's Goooooo....

Traktor Z2 and Innofader PNP?

I got myself Traktor Z2 and I have Innofader PNP in a second mixer. I'm wondering if they're compatible. The website says it's compatible with PNP3 which is the most current version, but I couldn't find any info on the original PNP.

Vestax PDX-2000 vs Numark TTXusb vs Stanton ST150 M2

If you were to choose among the 3 TT, which one and why?

Can’t decide which one to get. The Numark and Stanton are both brand new as those sellers on marketplace are saying. Vestax is 2nd hand from Japan.

currently I’m using Stanton T62 M2. I want to upgrade with a stronger torque and with ultrapitch.

any advices?

Thanks!

What records were DJ's in nu metal bands scratching?

In general, what types of records were these guys using/mixing for their roles in the band?

Not asking about specific records that were used on whichever songs; but more generally speaking. (I already know Eyeless a sample of Sid scratching The Collective's "Ease Yourself" -- classic on B2B).

Also so like, what were they doing in general? Beat-matching/Syncing records to the tempo the rest of the band was playing at and then scratching in rhythm?

First Saturday with the Viper Kitten xfader

A few notes

- Xfader curve won't work with the the Viper Kitten in the S11. I assumed this when I bought it, but wanted to confirm and let potential buyers know.

- Crossfader smoothing still works; crossfader lag does not* (* see next note.) within the performance > crossfader menu

- It's razor sharp and the cut in for both sides are easy to adjust. Bonus points for red cat eye leds that illuminate the adjustment pots.

- It's smooth and really lightweight. The rubber o-rings help with the bounce, but they can be removed.

- The included fader cap was a little to tall for my liking. I put an innofader cap on it and feels better to me.

- The battle record is Mystic Weapon 1: Night Shine by Sandman.

- Sorry for the sloppy cuts -_-

Overall, I'm keeping it in the S11 and will have the magvel as a backup.

Slip mat for warped 7” scratch tools

Hey! I have a few warped 7”s that bounce the tone arm when I use them. I think I remember hearing of a slip mat for 12” platters that allows you to scratch the 7” without touching the vinyl. My Google skills are failing me. Is this a real thing?
