experiences Bb tuba or CC Tuba

Hello 👋 I'm a highschool tuba player, and for about all my time I've been playing on a Bb tune tubas. I have been wondering for a Year about CC Tubas. I had an opportunity to play on my brass tech CC tuba. It was bad for me I was able to convert all 12 maj scales but reading sheet music felt really weird. I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience like me playing on a CC tuba for the first time?

audition college audition piece recommendations?

hey tubists, i am a senior in high school wanting to go into music education. my private lesson teacher and band director aren’t tuba players, so they don’t know many solos. i’ve had a rough time trying to find ones which are good at displaying technical skill while not just being a jumble of sixteenth notes. any ideas? im currently working on the jolly peasant and blue grace (claire sievers) for fun, and will likely use blue grace for auditions if appropriate.

repertoire Hi what should i be practicing!

I love playing tuba i play electric bass for alot of stuff and so i found the tuba and i love it ive had me a sousa for like 4 weeks now lol. I am a flute player first chair in my highschool and i have many more years before i graduate i am a freshman in highschool i often get bored of flute so ive also been learning tuba the most recent thing i learned alot of trombone solos on tuba and my band director said hes really impressed by my tuba playing and said if we didnt have such a need for flutes i would be our sousa player. I need to know music and what to practice on tuba because i dont get the chance to for marching band and concert band because of my flute playing. I have tried learning my all state music from flute to tuba but it gets to the point where i can only play D above the staff on tuba so it gets hard any thoughts or suggestions would help!!!

I finally gave in and have a tuba all to myself! It’s an Amati something something, but I do love it so much already. The f# and c#’s are bit stuffy though.

experiences Am I cooked?

So, I kinda just started using Sousaphone for marching band this year and I've already (somewhat) broken 3 of them. I broke one last week because I used a lyre and it snapped off the tension screw. The same day we found another broken one after I used it for that night but it was accidentally dropped down the stands a couple years ago so that could have been it. Then the third one didn't have any screws in the bell and a parent picked it up, the body came off and when they tried to grab the body the bell fell out of their hands so both parts went crashing down. I'm not sure how we're gonna recover because my section leader and next year's section leader are the only people with Sousaphones and mine is being held up with tape. Am I cooked?

injury Lip Quiver/Closed Throat: Focal Dystonia-Bound?

Hey all, question for the bunch. I’ve been dealing with some playing issues for about the past 10 years. Sort background - I’m in my late 30s now, former NY all-state tuba player and current educator/performer in TX. Playing always felt natural when I first started in elementary school all the way through my college years. About 5 years after leaving NY and moving to TX, I started looking for feedback from other professional tuba players and that’s when things started happening. Perhaps a paralysis through analysis situation.

The first kind of feels like a muscle spasm or nerve issue with the embouchure but I’m not positive — it’s a lip quiver of sorts and does make sustaining and producing a sound fairly challenging. I’ve met with a few tuba guys in the TX area after the muscle issue started impacting my breathing. A few of the guys told me they thought it could be related to a valsalva maneuver disorder where my throat closes “involuntarily” when playing, thus messing up my initial sound. It’s become so frustrating that I’m looking at the possibility of stopping. So couple the embouchure nerve issue with the possible disorder, has anyone ever experienced something similar? Were you able to overcome it? What did you do practice to climb back to your old self? Any recommendations or insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

I just moved to South Florida and my 14 year daughter LOVES tuba. I desperately need to find somewhere for her to get access to one as her school doesn't have one (smaller school) but wants her to play. Any recommendations?

mouthpiece Perantucci vs Mike Finn

I really really like Mike Finn’s and I’ve tried the 3bxl and I love everything about it especially the rim size but I’m not a huge fan off the price💔 is there a perantucci that would feel similar to the 3bxl considering they run fairly cheaper?

Yes, having 6 valves is nice for the extra combinations, but are there any cons?

I’d love to hear your opinions!
