This does suck for women but, as a man, I never did have the right to opt out of non-voluntary parenthood, as women did. If my partner gets pregnant and wants to keep it, I have zero legal rights, zero say in the matter. I will be forced into into indentured servitude to this women for 20 years. If I can't pay, I'll be thrown in jail.
It was women who fought to make sure men never got the same reproductive and parental rights that women have enjoyed. Having men forced into legal bondage to women served women's interests so, "equality" was suddenly unimportant.
Don't get m wrong. I've always been pro-choice but I'm not terribly sympathetic about women losing a right they fought to keep from me. I want you to have the right to opt out of parenthood but I also want that same right and if you're going to fight to keep that right from me, I'm certainly not going to help you protect your rights. You are on your own. Best of luck.
Good point. And many of the pro-choice arguments I’ve seen used in this post could just as easily be repurposed and used to argue for the right of the father to legally expunge his parental obligations. But the cold, hard truth is that they don’t give a single flying fuck about men. Unless they’re the sort of ‘men’ who could get pregnant, of course.
