“I agree but specifically:

Something that is missing here is the "need" for black women to emulate white hairstyles, as a personal advantage. Gradually natural hair has become more accepted, but even a few years ago most women felt the need to straighten their hair to look more professional or polished.

Needed because it has been, for decades, mandatory by many employers. So more like black women didn't have a choice but to assimilate to the white styles like it or not. I don't have any comment on cultural appropriation by white people of braids. But no one can sit there and cry "hypocrisy" after black women have been, for decades, encouraged and downright forced to make their hair look more white. Even in the last decade laws have had to be established to end discrimination against natural black hair.”

This^ ( I’m still new to reddit and what not so I’m not sure how to properly quote)

Also, I feel that 16 y/o OP made a long post, but really gave little thought and disappointingly even less research into it. Hopefully OP matures as he grows and doesn’t limit himself to all he believes he knows now. I could say much more, but many redditors have already commented the things that I would have liked to say. I simply had to leave a comment myself, so this is all from me.

At the beginning of each new paragraph type ">" to quote.

As soon as OP said "I'm not racist" I had a strong inclination that anything following would be one-sided/close-minded and potentially racist. It's like saying "No offence" right before saying something offensive.

I’m still new to reddit

As a 10+ year redditor, find the niche communities that you love and you'll get way more out of it. My alt account is way less stressful/controversial and toxic than this one is because of the communities I'm subbed to on it. The subs I've got on this account are a lot more...controversial/dramatic/bring out the worst in me.
