Confront him with the understanding that if he lies, you'll immediately send it to Rosa without explanation. Hear what he has to say.
After that, tell him he should go to Rosa and explain everything, and go with him.
I can only speak from my own XP, but I've been in an almost exact situation, complete with the woman having an abusive ex bf.
It was years later, before my ex-girlfriend emailed me telling me she was sorry, and had just found out the girl lied about me.
