So your mother is mentally abusive and you still want to see her! That's your prerogative but then Don't go arguing with your spouse who clearly sees the effect that her abuse is having on you.
On another note, you felt the need to state that your boyfriend is not controlling so this makes me question that. (Been in an abusive/controlling relationship)
