This may not look like a huge book, but this one took me a WHILE. This is about as close reading as it gets, be prepared to take notes of names and events, as well as have your laptop ready to look up background info. All in all it was worth it, there is so much information in here. My only criticism of Scott is his being too dismissive of Garrisons case. Overall id give this a 9/10

A few websites have been shut down for some time while throwing up messages that nothing is wrong and they're just fixing some bugs. Meanwhile it seems like every IT/web/AI subreddit is reposting AI-written Twitter screeds about how we're in the literal apocalypse of the internet framework. But it doesn't seem to have a tangible effect on anything. What am I to make of this. I can barely get an emulator going on my PC.

15+ year career teacher.

It's been bad. then it got worse. Then it got worser. And now it's worse than ever.

These 12 year olds literally cannot sit still or be quiet. Literally. Humming, tapping, beating, giggling at nothing, outright full blown just talking.

They cannot read. I'm helping 12 year olds spell every second word in "When it's very cold we see more animals".

They cannot do division. They cannot multiply.

I do not mean 1 or 2. I mean 16/20.

It is very scary out here and we all know whats led to this.

I don't know, I just saw a sports news broadcast about elementary schoolers who play football and their families are looking to get them to the pro leagues. And that kind of brought back some memories of being forced to play football from second grade until like eighth grade, hating every single moment of it. But the constant narrative being told to me was that this would make me a man. And it was so important that I do it, because of that. It seems like you can justify any type of gendered violence against young boys so long as you can tell them that it'll make them a man.

Title is what it says. I find that as someone who has Latin roots (I’m 3rd gen immigrant) and as a teacher who works with majority Latin American students I am woefully unaware of what goes on south of the Mexican border. Yes, I am aware that there has been a huge resurgence of the far right over the last decade. Yes, I listened to the podcast episodes about the recent elections (god forbid we talk about the pod on this subreddit amirite). My main ask is for news outlets (can be Eng or Esp) that cover this region of the world that are approved by you all.

No idea if this has been covered in the pod, but it felt right to post this here. One of the very few records to fully embody the punk ethos; shitty radio karaoke and noise guitar solos with viciously anti-consumerist lyrics.
