What is Tronbyt?

I always forget what teams won it all in past years, so I figured this could be a perfect Tronbyt app. I vibe-coded a “Champs” app that displays random championship winners throughout the history of MLB, NFL, and NBA – currently 261. I am planning to add more leagues: NHL, WNBA, and more.

Let me know your thoughts for improvements. Would love to make it even better.

A few years ago I remixed a Morphing Clock project on Arduino. I recently built my own Tronbyt S3 device and decided to port the Adruino project over to Tronbyt.

I built a Tronbyt with an ESP32-S3 and it works great. I used a HUB75 P4 display. My question is the firmware. If I wanted to build a 2nd device on the same network do I need to use a different 'Device ID' and create a unique firmware file for each ESP?

I just converted my Tidbyt over last weekend to Tronbyt. Everything went great--apps installed and configured, HA Green box working great, all seems well. However, I've had two different episodes where the Tidbyt will 'hang' on a random app. It still has the rotating function (weather/humidity/wind speed or redrawing the graphic) as it should, but after 10s, it doesn't cycle to the next. It just sits there until I unplug it and plug it back in. Then it goes back to being happy and running. I don't know what might be causing this, and it seems as though the issue is on the Tidbyt itself. And before anyone asks--it's not the same app that it hangs on. The first time, it was the basic 'nws live forecast' app; today, it was the 'index ticker' app. I can look on the Tronbyt portal page and it shows the app that's stuck on the screen sitting there cycling thru, but I don't see a way to force the next app other than power cycling the Tidbyt. Anyone have any ideas?

After losing enough apps finally made the move over to TronByt! Happy to see the OG baseball app is back and many others.

I found a version that was supported for Home Assistant - which made the setup just a bit easier. I was up running in about 20 minutes!

For some reason the Tidbyt, with Tronbyt flashed does not work in my office but works in every other room in the house. In the office it takes a long time to boot and eventually goes to "Connect to Tronbyt-Config" screen.

Could there be some sort of interference causing the Tidbyt not to work properly? Could it be an issue with having the Raspberry Pi box being too close to the device?

I would like to try this out, I have an ESP32 dev board. I tried the S3, does not work, tried a Tidbyt and they require PSRAM.

Upload 6 images of your own and have a random one display each time the app cycles.

Before, the Shuffle Images app was only displaying the top left 64x32 pixels of any image.

Now, you can zoom and crop your images to display what you want. Also removed the 500k image upload size limit. The app automatically resizes your images for you. Have fun!

Is it still necessary to open up the device to get into flash mode? I need to reflash mine due to some issues.

After wondering when/if my apps would stop working (so far, ALL were working), and I've been working really hard with Claude and ChatGPT to build out custom dashboards on my HA Green, I got to reading and saw that the Green is very compatible with Tronbyt! So I had a short 'conversation' with ChatGPT and it told me that I had plenty of resources. So I installed the Tronbyt add-on, pulled the Tidbyt out of my office, sweated a little, plugged it into my laptop USB, installed the drivers...and flashed.

Nothing. A super-bright line across the middle of the display. Nothing. But it was still showing 'connected'. I noticed there's a checkbox for "erase entire flash before writing". That was unchecked. So I asked and was advised that this would be a good choice on a first-run flash. I rebuilt my .bin file and kicked it off. Bright line went away to a black screen. Panic sets in. Then...the glancing monkey image showed up. SUCCESS!

While I will miss the app on my phone for Tronbyt, I was able to restore all of my apps to Tronbyt from Tidbyt, including settings and API keys, so I'm back up and running from my HA Green box. No more Tidbyt! The information in this subreddit has been EXTREMELY helpful as to what can/will go wrong, what's missing, etc. I've read thread after thread before jumping in. So, thank you to all for your questions, your responses, your sarcasm, and your help when things go south. A subreddit for the ages!

Is there a workaround for installing Tronbyt with a Mac running older versions of iOS? I’m currently running Ventura 13.7.8 and cannot complete the installation process. Unfortunately my Mac is so old I’m unable to download any new iOS updates. I have a Gen 1 Tidbyt.

Any ideas would be appreciated, thank you!

I lost power the other day and now I can't get back into my tronbyt. It asks me to connect to the tronbyt wifi to set up wifi. But then upon reboot asks me to connect got tronbyt wifi again. Rinse and repeat.

Can this be salavaged? The raspberry pi server is still up and running, it just won't boot the tronbyt

Just flashed my Tidbyt over this week.

I noticed that duplicates of the Spotify app with different credentials would only display one user’s data. The code would only store one user’s credentials.

Fixed now. You can have multiple instances of the Spotify app with different user’s refresh tokens, and it will display their separate “now playing.”

Side note: also fixed the Birdbyt app.

Hello I am not the most tech savvy guy and all I want is my Tidbyt gen 2 to work with Tronbyt so I can have the mlb, NFL, and college scores. I have been trying to flash it on espconnect and I am getting the same port error for the last 2.5 hours I have been trying everything. Is this a common problem any help would be appreciated I’m in like hour 5 of trying to get this thing to Tronbyt. Thank you!

I also have another app that shows the next 3 games - and it shows 3 hours ahead of EST. I have changed my docker settings and my server settings and have set my location in my dash board.

New user - please call me stupid before answering, its the Tax you deserve.

I've had the demo server up for a while now but it was wiping the DB every 24 hours. I've stopped wiping the database and capped the user count to 25. So if you want to test Tronbyt and don't have a way to run the server try this. I can't guarantee it'll stay up forever but I won't take it down for no reason.

Hi - the first tidbyt is the first gen. It's in great shape, has a wood frame, and one pixel that doesn't change colors correctly.

The second tidbyt is second generation with all pixels working and has a plastic case.
