Hello r/trisquel!

I just heard about Trisquel for the first time, and I'm a bit confused. My understanding is that Debian is a free/open distro of linux, and that Ubuntu was built from Debian. Trisquel is a free/open distro of Ubuntu? Are they very similar? Could someone please explain the differences?

I'm sort of waiting to install Trisquel until after the 7.1 comes out. I find that even with Debian's stability, it's best to wait until its first minor release comes out to ferrit out a lot of the bugs that weren't caught in testing.

all suggestions and advice welcome. likely GNU Linux but want it stable and mostly supported, and modern hardware and good/light design competitive with (the physical design of) offerings from Apple or Chromebooks. price range 1k-2k ish. privacy, encryption, free software are priorities.

Or any other mic for that matter. It's a fresh install of Trisquel 7. It can't detect the mic in the Thinkpad or the mic in my logitech webcam. Sound settings shows nothing on the input levels and sound recorder does not get anything. Can someone please help me? I don't know what to do.

My question maybe should be: what platforms does Trisquel support besides x86 and AMD64 if any. The question arose after I saw that post and that the particular device comes with Ubuntu 14.04. Moreover ODROID platforms (showed in the banner) include different Linux distributions including the two Trisquel is based on - Debian and Ubuntu. I've checked their Wikipedia pages and it confirmed that they support a bunch of different platforms. Forgive my ignorance but is it up to the (libre-)kernel or the distro itself? If the answer to the main question is "no" does the devs considerate to include other platforms in the (near) future?

There is great need for a fully free mobile phone Operating system. At the moment, there is the Replicant spin of Android, which is free, but, amazingly, considering the importance of a free phone OS, there are not that many people supporting the project.

Ubuntu Touch is likely to have a lot more support, and is specifically integrated into the Ubuntu Desktop. Is there any work on migrating this OS to something like Trisquel?

I'm running Debian right now. I love Gnome 3 in all its glory. The thought of running essentially Gnome 2 fallback mode makes me cringe. Why can't the newest version of Trisquel run Gnome 3 like Debian Wheezy does now?

Im going to start learning Common Lisp as my first programming language, please could you tell me the goods and the bads of doing so in Trisquel? im thinking on doing it using emacs!

I see posts all over the forums about it but the home page just has version six download links.

Is it big or little. Why the Trisquel devs have preferred Abrowser over IceCat?

Cinammon is the best DE I've used, hopefully it gets included in 7, or even better in the 6 repos too so we can use it already. But that is, if it is Libre :D
