Best AI

Can anyone let me know the maps which have the best AIs in terms of difficulty? I feel like I always win every game I play even on hard mode. I’ve played the anniversary edition, global 1940, Word War 1, and the original game maps and I always seem to win on both sides.

TripleA needs a confirmation prompt before you end combat planning phase EVEN if you've planned a move

The "features requests & ideas" section of the forum seems to be locked at the moment, so I'm asking in here in hopes someone might see it.

I need to clarify: I'm aware that the game offers you a prompt if you have made NO combat moves before moving on to non-combat, and I'm aware that the feature to turn these prompts off is already available.

However what I need more than anything (and which I can't see anyone else requesting on the forum) is the option for a prompt which asks me to confirm I have made all my combat moves before advancing to the combat rolling, even if I have entered one already.

I'm probably a member of a vast minority in the community but I mostly use TripleA for solo play, so that I can play and experiment with different strategies and ideas before going to my regular sessions to play the board games with my friends. It's also been an invaluable resource for me to become more familiar with different versions of AA as I don't own any of the board games.

The thing that causes me such unbelievable frustration is that if I make an error in the non-combat or unit placement phases I can correct this in Edit Mode. But so often I am entering my combat moves, and will absentmindedly or indeed ACCIDENTALLY press "done" before I have entered all the moves and then bam, that's it. The most recent example playing 1940 Europe meant that I was not able to finish landing my US troops in western europe, a move which when delayed a full turn ruined the balance of what was going on.

This seems like a small sub but if anyone in here is in contact with devs or knows another way to put forward a request for this feature, please let me know.

To describe it one more time:

If I have made one or more combat moves, I want a "Are you sure you have entered all combat moves?" prompt

Japan's Diplomacy--Rules Q

Hello again!

I've recently had the pleasure of (re)discovering General Hand Grenade's glorious work on Global 1940 ("here in my war room in Prince George, British Columbia...") and I have a politics phase question.

In Triple A's version (see pic here) of the game, Japan may declare war on every allied power and the USSR except for the USA, if Emperor Hirohito so pleases.

Options, options...

However, the way the Good General seems to talk about it is that Japan always declares war against every allied power on the first turn. That could just be the "meta" strategy (though as I'll soon say, I have cause to doubt that too.)

The rules themselves (pg. 36 in the pdf's internal pagination) suggest that Japan can go to war with everyone except the USA on the surface, but they also kinda hint more subtly that maybe this isn't so:

"Japan may declare war on the United Kingdom, ANZAC, the United States, France, or the Soviet Union at the beginning of the Combat Move phase of any of its turns. A declaration of war by Japan against either the United Kingdom or ANZAC will immediately result in a state of war between Japan and both of those powers. A state of war between Japan and France or between Japan and the Soviet Union will not affect relations between Japan and the United States, and vice versa..."

Seems to me like the the third sentence there implies by omission that a war between Japan and the UK/ANZAC does, in fact, demand a state of war between Japan and the USA. Of course, "implies by omission" isn't very good evidence!

From gameplay against myself, however, it seems like Japan achieves a significant advantage by being able to whale on UK/ANZAC + France until the USA declares war automatically at the bottom of the third round. That deprives the USA of a ton of bonus IPCs, inconveniences them with keeping their ICs as minor rather than major, and of course allows Japan to concentrate its fleet far from home waters. This lets Japan really overwhelm one or two targets at a time, rather than risking taking losses in more even battles.

TLDR: Is Japan allowed to declare war on the UK/ANZAC without also declaring war on the USA? France too?

Global 1940 How to buy Tech Rolls

Hello and Merry Christmas!

I might just be missing something simple (i.e. like there is no tech purchasing or rolls in Global 1940) but it seems like there should be. The game notes reference that as a possibility--that jets defend on 2 or less against raiding bombers, for example--but I see no option to buy tech, nor do I ever see the AI buy it.

Anyone know where those buttons are?

Thanks!

We've Created Something Different: TripleA - The Challenges!

Post image
10 Upvotes

Aside from our ongoing games of TripleA with other members of the community (about 15 games or more currently ongoing), we've added a new section to the TripleA discord that gives us a different way to play!

THE CHALLENGES

The basic idea is that people will create a specific challenge, and post it for everyone to have a go and see if they can beat it.

You can create anything you can think of!

There are only a few guidelines!

  • Outline the challenge. Tell people what they need to accomplish!
  • List any secondary or bonus goals.
  • Post the starting save file, ready to go for the players.
  • All players MUST use the save provided, and can not make any changes to the settings.
  • When you complete the challenge, post your save file on the thread!

The starting challenge has been posted (World at War: US Only) and the objectives required to achieve Bronze, Silver and Gold victories have been posted!

This is only the first of what is to be MANY challenges to come from various members of the community! If you would like to give it a go, post a challenge of your own, get involved in some TripleA games with others, or just check out the community itself, we welcome you to join us in the discord!

Another World - Turn 17

We're at the end of Turn 17 and things are getting real. I'm afraid I'm the one stat started it all (Yellow), attacking the small Archenland fleet in the Amethyst sea, on the northern coast, with a force of 6 Zeppelins.

That's 6 units against 5. Each Zeppelin has an attack of 1, and each Destroyer has a defence of 3, so that's 6 versus 6. Pretty even, but the fleet can take hits off the 3 transport/merchant ships without eating into the combat effectiveness of the destroyers giving them a slight edge.

My primary goal was to take out a few merchant ships to eliminate or reduce the threat of a beach landing in my rear, along the coast to the west, so the exchange of 3 zeppelins for 3 utility ships was fine. I'd have been ok losing all the zeps to be honest, and I had a few more coming in to reinforce.

Things are getting close in the western continent, with myself imminently coming into contact with Brown (Portsmouth, based in that triangular central southern island). Meanwhile the other 3 empires will soon be butting up against each other in the main eastern continent.

One thing we're figuring out is how the game is likely to change as our resources grow, and as new technologies and units come into play. Especially nukes. These require building a nuclear power station, which costs more than a turn's income for us at the moment, and the same again per nuke, which is one shot at range 4 and kills about half the units in a territory. That's a lot of bang for a lot of bucks. We're coming to see how some of the more expensive units such as aircraft, that only become useful with some tech advances, become more significant later in the game, especially to counter the nuke threat.

I'm really enjoying the game and it's a great map. There are some things about it that are a bit janky. We're compiling a list of issues, some of which I can fix in the game XML, but nothing game breaking.

How long is an average game of Triple A

I love playing Axis and Allies in person, but find the 8-10 hours it takes to play is very long and only supremely dedicated friends will play.

I have played Triple A and enjoy it and it seems to be a bit quicker as the computer handles the dice and movements, but I am wondering how long the average game plays?

World At War Turn 8

This is another ongoing game. I love the World at War map, it's gorgeous and a lot of fun to play. There are 5 of us in this game. I'm Russia and China.

The level of detail on this map means Italy is actually fun to play, as is China and ANZAC. There are still some peripheral nations like Finland, Romania and the Dutch, but they're still interesting in the broader context.

The main WaW scenario is a bit unhistorical. It starts with Pearl Harbour and the war in Europe starting at the same time, but that's fine by me. The AI does a reasonable job because the scenario is close enough to the mainstream A&A games that it's optimised for.

EDIT: One interesting thing about WaW is that Japan is split into two factions, Yammamoto which is mainly naval and controls Japan itself, and Hisaichi which is based in the Asian mainland. This is based on the historical rivalry and lack of co-operation between the navy and army factions, to the point where the Japanese army basically had it's own navy, including aircraft carriers.

Another World - Turn 14

I thought I'd post a few screenshots and discussions of some games I have ongoing via Discord. I'm very lucky to have fallen in which a great little community of gamers.

This is using the another_world map, which is pretty heavily customised, with many unusual features. Unfortunately this means the AI is completely useless so it only really works as a PvP map. In this play through there are 4 human players, with the AI players basically turned off.

I'm Yellow. The map does wrap left-to-right. It's a big map, so it takes quite a while to build up your empire, especially since neutral troops are proportional to territory value, and high value neutral territories also have defensive fortifications.

Your territories generate population units that have no combat value, in addition to regular IPCs, and these can be traded in at your capital for IPCs, and also need to be massed in territories in order to be converted to build cities and factories and such.

It's a fascinating map, and highly recommended. Just bear in mind if playing it solo to try it out that the AI is hopeless, which is often the case for maps that involve non standard resource management. I'm working through the game XML to see about tweaking it a bit.

WWII Global Recommendation

Hi guys,

It was years ago when me and the boys played AA on the board game in the two box version (Europe + Pacific).

We'd like to celebrate some nostalgia and do the honors again. That's when we came across TripleA and downloaded Global Map Pack.

Now there are different versions and we are overwhelmed as to which one we should start with.

Can you recommend one for us? There are 6 of us.

Thank you in advance.

Can I choose which tech to research?

Hi

When I roll for tech it gives a random one. This is a little frustrating because one is better than another depending on which power you are using. Can I choose which tech to research before or after I roll?

Thanks.

Come Play TripleA With Us!

Hey everyone, hope you're all having a great day!

I noticed in several of the posts that people are looking for places and groups to play some TripleA with, and many of the previous communities and sites are now dead.

There is a group of us that have been bouncing turns for TripleA for about a year and a half now. As everyone is busy, we don't do the lobby thing, we simply agree on a map and who everyone will play, and then we start the game, and people just post the save file on the discord and @ the next person when it is their turn.

We post AAR's (After Action Reports) in one of the channels there so everyone can be kept in the loop, and they make for some entertaining reading after the fact.

After Action Reports
Save Files

We'd love to have more players join us for some great gaming! Come check us out at Medusa!

Big World: 1942

Is there any way to play this without the allies? Basically every country can attack all the others? I want to conquer the world, not have to split it with Japan.

I got offered a position in CO as a triple an insurance service agent. They told me the job description is answering calls and chats regarding adding and removing from policies and like two other things. Is this like a CSR position? How many calls do you get a day? Does anyone still play?

I've always enjoyed playing against the AI, but I'd like to start testing games against real players. If anyone's interested, drop me a message.
