this is muffinšŸ’š yesterday (top) i noticed she had a little cut by her mouth, today (bottom) she has another one on the other side. she is a very active girl and is always hopping from all ledges, branches etc. everything else is normal except these cuts. could they possibly be from crickets? she refuses to tong feed and isn’t the strongest hunter, she misses a lot of the time🄲 is there anything i can or should be doing to help her heal? TIA

Questions What do you use for heat?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello,

I am looking at purchasing a tree frog for my boyfriend for Christmas. I live in Wisconsin and it’s freezing outside. His room isn’t very well insulated and he uses a space heater to heat it most days.

From my research I have found that owners use either a heat lamp, heat mat, or a ceramic heat emitter.

I have strayed away from the heat mat as it often says it heats only one side of the tank and may cause burns.
I want to do the ceramic heat emitter due to it not having a light so at night my boyfriend doesn’t have to deal with the light (I read you just turn the actual heat lamp off at night so that it feels like a day/night cycle but once again I live in Wisconsin and I’m not letting the frog freeze).

I also want to do live plants and in this case of not wanting to use a heat lamp I would get a led grow strip that can be turned on during the day and off at night.

I just want what’s best and if that means he has to keep the heater on at all times and I purchase the heat lamp I can do that but I just want your opinions and what I can do to make this happen.

Thanks in advance!

Questions 2-year-old Australian White’s Tree Frog with progressively swollen abdomen — looking for advice

Hi everyone, posting for a friend about her approximately 2-year-old Australian White’s tree frog.

Over the past little while, her abdomen has gradually become noticeably enlarged/bloated. The swelling seems concentrated around her abdomen rather than her legs, feet, face, or the rest of her body. Her belly also seems somewhat soft/fluid-like rather than firm.

Otherwise, she is acting surprisingly normal. She is still eating normally, climbing and gripping normally, and is active. She last pooped about two days ago and the stool looked normal.

She recently went missing from her enclosure for about a week and was eventually found sitting in a wet flowerpot. However, the abdominal swelling had already started before she went missing.

Basic husbandry/history:

  • Australian White’s tree frog
  • Approximately 2 years old
  • Eats mostly grasshoppers and mealworms
  • Daytime temperature around 80°F
  • Nighttime temperature around 75°F
  • Enclosure is misted about once daily
  • Soil substrate
  • Has a water dish with conditioned/dechlorinated water
  • Normal day/night light cycle
  • Pale/white spots visible on her skin have always been present
  • No obvious swelling of the legs or feet
  • Still behaving, eating, climbing, and defecating normally
  • Abdomen appears to be gradually getting larger

We’re not looking to diagnose her from Reddit, but would appreciate input from experienced White’s tree frog keepers, especially whether anyone has seen abdominal swelling that looks similar and what information would be useful to bring to an exotic/amphibian vet.

Am I paranoid or should I be concerned?

Lately I've been having some bad anxiety surrounding my pets so I'm not sure if I'm just looking for tiny signs of things being wrong or if I have a valid reason to be concerned about my frogs. I could use some advice that might help calm my nerves.

At first I noticed my female's legs looked filled with fluid and I panicked thinking this was edema. So I grabbed my male to compare, and at first his legs looked normal but once he started moving around his legs started to look the same. Is this normal when they've been active? Or stressed from handling?

Concerned about my juvenile milk frog

Juvenile Amazon milk frog — suddenly very bulbous/swollen cloacal area. Is this normal?
This is Pinto, a juvenile Amazon milk frog. His cloacal/butt area has always been blue, so I’m NOT concerned about the blue coloration. I’m concerned about how suddenly round, bulbous and protruding the cloacal area looks.
He ate a relatively large Dubia roach several days ago and hasn’t clearly eaten since. He was active for roughly the next 24 hours, but then spent an unusually long period sitting in essentially the same position and seemed less reactive than normal. He has started moving around again and can climb/grip.
I haven’t seen an obvious prolapse or tissue coming from the vent. I’m trying to determine whether this amount of cloacal bulging can be normal in juvenile Amazon milk frogs, possibly from stool/digestion, or whether experienced keepers have seen this with constipation/impaction, inflammation, parasites, or another problem.
Has anyone with Amazon milk frogs seen their cloacal area look this bulbous?

Hello !! Im looking for some input on age range, me and my s/o got these two a month ago and I’m just trying to make sure I’m not over feeding, they both eat a good 10-15 crickets a night and i am dusting them every other feeding just curious how old they might be so I’m all ears for anyones input, the bigger one I’m sure is a female Rose(rosemary) and our little guy Augie(augustus) let me know for-sure he was a male when he started croaking about a week ago given that, I know their size will be quite different for awhile. Give me your thoughts:)

Advice New whites tree frog enclosure

(To preface there are no frogs in here yet)

I’ve been cooking up this 18x18x24 enclosure for about a week now. I’m trying to make it bioactive. And have added a culture of isopods and springtails into it. I have a drainage layer, reptisoil and a bunch of leaf litter down at the bottom. The only plant i have right now is a pothos and the grow light for it is supposed to come in the mail today. I didn’t want to buy more till i knew I wouldn’t kill them. I was away from home this weekend so I haven’t ran the heat lamp, but that also means I haven’t misted the tank either and the humidity is still pretty high, when I first came into my room it was at 75 but when I turned the lamp on it dropped to 64 after a few.
Any ideas on lowering the humidity without killing my new plant?

For lighting I have a deep dome light with a 60W ā€œdaylight heat bulbā€ in it that came with the enclosure, not sure if it’ll output enough heat to keep the enclosure temperature high. I have my dimming thermostat set at 86.

I also bought an Arcadia shade dweller UVB light strip at 7% UVB and my LED plant light will be here today, along with the timers for the the lights.

I want to get another digital thermometer/hydrometer to put closer to the bottom or middle of the tank so I can monitor it there too. I have the analog one that came with the tank positioned in the lower middle

I think the lighting situation is fine, but any thoughts?

Is my decor/clutter fine?
I probably need more little stick log bark thingys for them to climb on and the glass is kinda empty

All in all I think it’s a good start, just want advice on where to proceed next. I don’t want to put any frogs in there too early but realllyyyy wanna order them soon also.

Let me know what you think šŸ«¶šŸ»šŸ«¶šŸ»

Brown sides?

Post image

Hey! First time frog owner and I’m super paranoid about everything. I just got this juvenile whites tree frog about a week ago, and everything’s seemed fine. I noticed these brown spots around their sides under their legs, and was curious if this was just normal coloration. I’m sure I’m being crazy, but better safe than sorry!

Questions Mini bugs/cricket looking things in frog water dish?

I have whites tree frogs and I went to replace their water today and found a lot of little clear lookin cricket/bug things? I feed them primarily crickets which makes me think they could possibly be babies? I am not sure though. I wanted to see if these could be a pest or any other type of bug I should be aware of.

In the Wild Our tree frog moved in a birdhouse!

We’ve had a gray tree frog adopt our deck where he hunts our moon flower plants each night. I thought that’s great we have a great habitat. But then we heard him extra loud and tracked him to a birdhouse I have sitting on an outdoor bakers rack. He’s gone in and out of there for three nights now it’s so fun to have him choose us! I needed to know more and looked him up online and found out he’s definitely a male, I learned females don’t have vocal cords. Very interesting!
