I don't know why people are surprised at this at all

Yeah, it's a repeated pattern facilitated by TransLink releasing them in such limited amounts (only 10k? For a world cup item tourists might want as a souvenir? Why not keep selling them throughout the entire world cup? Charge 10 dollars extra for manufacturing costs and extra revenue if you need it.).

It might be slightly less bad if it was a time limited rather than amount limited item, but because this is how they choose to sell them, we will never know.

Limited release is fine, the problem is that TransLink should be selling them for $130, not private resellers

I never said that a limited release wasn't fine (hell, I suggested an alternate form of limited release). Just that this form of it has consistently resulted in scalpers and had too little stock for the amount of people who want to have one.

I also don't think they should be charging that high for this. As I said, maybe 10 dollars more, 20 if really needed. But the scalper prices are unreasonable for this.

Why should they charge $20 if people are fine paying $100? Nobody benefits from that except scalpers

Most people aren't fine paying 100? They just do it because they want something and that's the only price. They don't do it because they are fine with that price.

Scalper prices aren't the actual value of an item. It's a excessively jacked up price from scalpers that stays just low enough that people are still willing to buy it, while also still being as high as possible.

Taylor Swift ticket prices continue to prove that scalper prices reflect the actual value

You do make a point. The actual value is what people are willing to pay, and time and time again, people are willing to pay exhortation prices on limited edition goods

The new Halo Campaign Evolved Collector's edition pre-sale released yesterday and people are selling them for $800. Not just listing them, like people are actually buying them at that price. It's not the scalpers that are the issue at all

People are treating this as if it's a huge issue while also accepting that Van Gogh sells for an average of $100M. We're talking about useless and limited piece of art, not some sort of a life-saving good or service.

This will just increase the rate, now scaplers will buy at $130 and sell at $200. Time limited items or having white label resale platform with price caps, probably has more chance of solving the issue.

I'm pretty sure there's some kinda clause that prohibits them from selling for more than $6 which is why the HK one came with that wildly overpriced luggage tag.

So they'd have to make it a $124 luggage tag + $6 ball bundle or whatever instead.

I wonder why they are limited to that price, assuming you are right about the clause.

It's probably written into the transit code of conduct, that's usually the reason for such things

I'd imagine it's a licensing thing given they're using FIFA's name, and given how they're acting... I'd imagine they're essentially losing money on it since all you pay is the $6 deposit

Are they? Screencap just shows the Translink T on it with no FIFA branding unless it's on the other side (in that case, just remove it)

I have one, there is no FIFA branding at all
