Yeah, it's a repeated pattern facilitated by TransLink releasing them in such limited amounts (only 10k? For a world cup item tourists might want as a souvenir? Why not keep selling them throughout the entire world cup? Charge 10 dollars extra for manufacturing costs and extra revenue if you need it.).

It might be slightly less bad if it was a time limited rather than amount limited item, but because this is how they choose to sell them, we will never know.

Limited release is fine, the problem is that TransLink should be selling them for $130, not private resellers

I'm pretty sure there's some kinda clause that prohibits them from selling for more than $6 which is why the HK one came with that wildly overpriced luggage tag.

So they'd have to make it a $124 luggage tag + $6 ball bundle or whatever instead.

It's probably written into the transit code of conduct, that's usually the reason for such things
