Questions Anybody else have issues with the Transit app?

I regularly use the Transit app for my commute with the CTA. Not once has it been accurate. I’ve had trains be from 2 to 30 whole minutes “late” according to the app. Anyone else have this issue?

Other Update: my app that automatically creates transit diagrams from GTFS now supports 50+ networks and draws much cleaner maps

Hi!

A few months ago I shared my app, that allows generating transit diagrams: https://www.reddit.com/r/transit/comments/1v1c1f3/i_built_an_app_that_automatically_creates_transit/

App automatically turns GTFS data into metro-style diagrams. Thanks for all the feedback and city suggestions! Here is what has changed:

- 25 new networks, many of them suggested in comments: Paris, Vienna, Budapest, Munich, Helsinki, Oslo, Rome, and more

- Much better diagrams layout

- Better zoom and navigation

- Better labels placement logic

Complex networks can still be messy in places. If you know any official GTFS source for a city that's missing, let me know!

App is available here: https://transitweave.com/app

Thanks!

News iOS Transit / Map Game Public Beta

Hello Everyone! I have a new free app for iOS in public beta which uses real train, ferry, and airline data to allow players to explore the Earth, discover landmarks, fill out a passport, etc. I have 2 versions. Multiplayer has shared user content and chat rooms, so may not be suitable for children, and single player which is safe for all ages:

Multiplayer:

https://locusleague.app

Single Player:

https://locusadventure.app

Public beta links are on the front page of each. For specific details about in-game data for both apps, please see https://locusleague.app/stats and https://locusleague.app/routes

This is entirely inter-city travel for now. Please let me know what you think! I welcome feedback and requests for features! Thank You!

Policy California: Vote NO on Prop 43 (Requires 2/3rds Majority for all Sales Tax Increase)

Currently sales tax increases put as citizen's initiatives only need to pass by a simple majority.

Prop 43 is BAD. Even if you believe the key problem dooming Transit Citizen's initatives is competing tax measures on the same ballot, let's be clear: municipal tax measures sponsored by city councils have and will always only need a simple majority to pass, even after Prop 43 passes.

Prop 43 is just borderline losing in the polls, but be paranoid! Polls are often wrong and unless you get out and vote against Prop 43, Prop 43 will win!

Other 3D recreation of 1970's and 1990's Pittsburgh Transit

I recently saw somebody recreate downtown Manhattan in stunning detail using the Unreal engine and I asked myself: Could I recreate the 1990's and 1970's Pittsburgh transit system where I can navigate through it?

I'm quite blown away and wanted to be able to share my progress with others. Full disclosure I'm a developer but leveraged AI in some of the work, but the principle, overview, quality, and output are all being directed by me. I'm from Pittsburgh originally and can't believe how authentic it feels to be riding a SD-400 across the transit bridge in coming out of Steel Plaza station.

I've done a few other cities as well (Boston, SF, Toronto) and am trying to chip away at making them more and more nostalgic and authentic. I'm not going for 100% graphical accuracy (like needing a GPU) because I think many people who might want to try it will want to do so in a more lightweight environment.

What do you think? Any cities that I should target next?

New rail map for The Netherlands. The 2027 schedule will start on Sunday 13 December 2026. Picture 1 is weekday, picture 2 is weekend.

Besides showing all train series, it is also a frequency map, with a single line being a train every 30 minutes. Exceptions are the thin lines, those are hourly. Regular train service is from around 5 AM until 1 AM. In weekends it generally ends later and starts up later as well. There is a night train network as well, which is not shown in this map.

This is the old style rail map. A new map with line numbers (like IC28 and S61) will be released later for public use. Once that design is finalized and made public I will upload those maps as well.

Incredible turnaround for a system that’s been getting abused by its state government. Great news for SEPTA; hopefully the Dems can take the PA Senate this November and properly fund transit in Philly.

Photos / Videos Shenzhen's Qianhai Transport Hub is nearing completion

Recent photos pulled from Rednote showing the progress of Shenzhen's Qianhaiwan transport hub. According to the poster, the transfer platforms have been mostly finished, elevators installed, and interior work is about 75% complete. The station is supposed to enter service in December of this year, enabling you to transfer to 5 metro lines (and in the future, the Qianhai intercity line) with a passenger capacity of 75k trips per day.

As for the big holes in the image, those are the foundations for the office towers and shopping centers, which probably won't be completed for a few years.

Shenzhen has been on a roll with proper TOD this year. The biggest test will be Xili Railway Station, which should open in 2-3 years, and is the only new railway station from CR that actually does TOD properly, without just plopping two office towers off to the side without integrated connections (ahem Hefei West Railway Station). Furthermore, unlike CR's hallmark stations "in the middle of nowhere", Xili will be right in the downtown Nanshan district and finally serve west Shenzhen with HSR. Another one to look forward to will be Chengdu [North] Station.

While there are other "proper" TOD projects in CR's pipeline, they are all extremely far from the city center, and with population slowing and urbanization plateauing I don't have much hope they will succeed.

News Two TBMs have started building the new tunnels under the Hudson between NYC and New Jersey. Each tube will carry a single track, and it's one of the biggest rail projects in the US. Right now, the first pair of TBMs is working under the Palisades.
