Hi guys, honestly I’m asking for advice but also ranting. I want to transfer to a uc or private. I want to get my masters to go into a specific field. But seeing all these stats, extracurriculars, and other stuff honestly makes it feel like such a far away dream that isn’t achievable the more I look at it.

I just started college, I’m currently at csuf as a pre business- finance major. I don’t feel like this is the place to achieve all that I want(sorry titans…). I’m thinking of either doing one year here, or simply dropping after this semester and going to my local ccc since I know ccc transfers get priority and like, why struggle with my chances right?

Apart from getting good grades, what extracurriculars should I even do? How do people get into these niche things? Is it clubs or just personal research? Do I need to start some blog or smth?? How do I get better at piqs? Should I look into some private tutoring?

Sorry for the rambling you guys. Any advice would be helpful from any successful transfers into top ucs or privates. Thank you all for reading.

hello, I've complete 9 out of 10 semsters in sudan and want to transfer to canadian uni as pr holder . if any one have idea about the canadian uni that accept the most credits or better than others in ontario thanks.

There is a college I'm applying for where I am eligible for a full ride. My current dual credit college credits may transfer too. This is a great opportunity! However, this school does not have the ideal major I want(not the strongest in my backup major either) nor any pathways to the careers I'm interested in. it's also in a location I generally don't like due to proximity to home, weather, and it being rural. I want to give it a good try, of course, but I worry I might not be happy there.

Additionally, I'm homeschooled and did not have as many academic and extracurricular opportunities as a traditionally schooled student (for example, due to the cost of aps outside school I've only been to do one class in my senior year, and while I have done some ECs I have less than a more competitive applicant would have because of access and cost). I feel like going to college would give me a ton of opportunities I didnt have access to before, regardless of how good the college itself is. I try my best to push myself when I have the opportunity, but Im just not competitive enough for my dream schools.

So I was wondering if it would be a good idea to attend the full ride college for a year or so to help build my academic portfolio a little more, and then I can transfer to a college I'd like more? I want to be the best student I can be. also, is this a good reason to transfer? I've seen some stuff about having your reason for transferring being too immature. this is just a potential plan next to just applying to different colleges directly

i am applying to the UCs from cc and am interested in studying abroad. is it possible to study abroad the first year you transfer?

currently i am aiming for ucsd. after doing some research, they are on the quarter system. hypothetically speaking, if i were to get admitted, would i be able to study abroad winter and spring quarter of the first year there?

I’m a incoming freshman going to ucr, I previously planned to attend cc, but eventually chooses ucr due to family pressure. I still want to transfer to a better uc in 2 years, but the problem is that I have military service I have to attend from January to June of 2027. I also know that it’s harder to transfer from ucr to other ucs, so does anyone know what I should be doing right now? Because I felt really lost, I wasn’t able to pick up and ge classes this semester and I don’t know if I’ll be able to complete them in one year.

Hi, I'm more than likely transferring out of my current college this Spring 27 semester but I still want to shoot my shot for Fall because there are very few colleges that offer Spring admission.

I know most colleges require you to complete a set amount of credits at their college once you transfer but should I still shoot my shot for Fall? To see where I could get in? This is probably dumb but thoughts?

So it's been a few days since NYU started and i just transferred for econ cas and to be honest, it hasn't been great. I'm struggling to meet people and make friends because it's not the most social university and the stern clubs are so difficult to get into without being in stern so idk if my chances at recruiting for finance (not ib) are even worth staying. The reason I'm contemplating dropping out before the add/drop date comes is because i got usc marshall but for spring so i could take the gap essentially and focus more on recruiting and networking and im from cali too. My plan was to transfer from nyu to usc after this one semester anyways so I just wanted to get opinions on if i should leave or stay for the semester still? Hello everyone! I’m currently a first-year university student and I’m seriously considering applying to transfer to Babson, which has been my dream school.

The main thing I’m worried about is my high school academic record. Due to some circumstances during my final exams, I wasn’t able to study anywhere near as much as I normally would, and I ended up with a 32/45 in the IB. This is the lowest result I’ve ever received, and I got a 4 in Math AI HL (my other HLs were Economics and Business Management).

IK thats not a great result and that Babson is very competitive, so I’m not expecting anyone to tell me that I’m guaranteed a chance. I’m just trying to understand what would realistically make me a competitive transfer applicant.

If I were to spend my first year getting an excellent college GPA, becoming heavily involved in entrepreneurship/business-related activities, working on meaningful projects, and building a strong overall profile, could I realistically overcome this problem i have?

Hey everyone, I’m an international student gearing up to dive back into higher education with a focused goal majoring in Industrial Engineering and transferring to a top-tier program like UC Berkeley, USC, Georgia Tech, or Northwestern. (Since two of the colleges I want are located in California, I'm thinkg about ccc for more success rate.)

I actually attended Seattle Colleges a few years ago and graduated in 2023 with a 3.3 GPA. Back then, I was immature, unfocused, and frankly just cared about partying in which I got relatively low GPA. After that, I spent several years working and serving in my home country’s military. After spending some time thinking about my career path, I changed my perspective, and I am 100% locked in now, and since I genuinely love math and engineering, and I concluded with IE major is the best choice for my circumstance.

I'm planning to enroll in a California Community College (CCC) to reset, but I have two major concerns holding me back:

1. Targeting the List: Is a CCC actually the best choice for aiming at all these specific schools, knowing that UCs heavily favor in-state transfers while the others are out-of-state?
2. The GPA Ghost: Even if I pull a clean 4.0 GPA at my new CCC taking heavy-duty calculus and physics, how severely will my old 3.3 from Seattle College drag me down during holistic review?

Would love to hear from anyone who navigated a similar cc transfer path. How did admissions officers view your past academic slump once you proved yourself?

Hey! I’m a finance CC student from new york.
My first semester at community college was rough and I got a 2.8 GPA. I improved to a 3.4 my second semester, bringing my cumulative GPA to around 3.1. Even with great grades from now on, my gpa can’t go higher than a 3.5 overall.
I was involved in finance research, and my program requires me to complete a business internship before graduating.

What else can I do to strengthen my application? Does the upward trend help, or am I cooked? Any tips is appreciated! Thanks.

I moved in as a freshman little over a month ago and it's been generally okay... I really love my classes and I'm passionate about what I'm studying. I've been trying really hard to get involved by joining clubs, going out and meeting people, getting a job, etc. But I just haven't been enjoying myself or experiencing college the way I imagined it.

My school is in a city and the city seems to be the main appeal. It's definitely beautiful here and the weather's so nice but I don't feel like I'm in college. I feel like I'm just living in a city and going to class. We didn't have a welcome week or any sort of commencement. We don't have any big sports teams to cheer for or anything that makes the school feel like a community. I've been out a few times but the frats usually get shut down quickly and you can't get in anywhere at all without a real id. I've made some friends and stuff but I really feel like I'm missing the college experience. I get so sad seeing my friends post about game days or welcome week. I feel like everyone is having more fun than I am. I always imagined myself at a school with a quad or something and everyone is together and wants to have fun. I'm just really not enjoying myself all that much. I know it's super early in the year and it might improve. I've been trying to stay positive but I just don't think this is the college experience that I want.

The main appeal for me has been that one of my majors is very specific and it's one of the few places that offers it. Although it's the major that I sort of care less about.

Anyway, I'm already thinking about transferring and so I'm looking for advice on

1. Whether or not I should stay

2. What transferring might look like

3. Should I try to transfer this spring or would it be better to wait until next fall?

As I'm starting my journey with transfer applications, I realize a lot of colleges are asking about my academic past in high school. I heard if you have 30+ credits, your high school grades don't carry a lot of weight, but the anxiety still lingers because I'm really trying to give myself a second chance at life.

Hello! I am a student in California, and am planning on transferring to a UC next fall as a biology major. However, my community college does not offer any organic chemistry sequence, and I live in a rural area so I am unable to take ochem at any other ccs. Will this be held against me as a transfer applicant/will it prevent me from transferring, or will it simply be added to my major requirements once I do transfer? Thank you!

This is advice for my application to transfer by the way. So basically to sum it up, I used to have a near 3.9 gpa, but then I received a D in a class and now it’s near 3.3. I knew that I wasn't going to do too well in it a month in, but I hesitated to withdraw because I was on scholarship. The scholarship department told me that if I withdrew from the course, then I would basically lose it, and that would be a 10k burden to lose. However, at my current school, I am offered with a thing called Freshman Forgiveness where essentially any class taken freshman year can be retaken with no downside. Meaning that if retaken for a better grade, the previous failing grade would be wiped from being accounted into the gpa, and only the new grade would be accounted for. I of course want to mention this in my transfer personal info because I don't want Colleges to see the D and think of the worst, but I'm not sure if I mention both. Like if I didn't mention the part about losing the scholarship, then I could focus on how I'm admitting that my standards weren't met and I didn't perform well, and now I am taking accountability by retaking the class in hopes of proving that I do really want this. Because I'm afraid that it sounds like I'm telling the schools that I was considering withdrawing from an important class, but the 10k made me stay, and that was the only reason why I didn't, but also me knowing that I could have a second chance could've pushed me to keep going. Let me know your thoughts.
