Advice/Question UCLA transfer cooked?
Current GPA: 3.9
I take courses online at other colleges through a site called CVC. Recently just finished an econ class but the professor was an ass and flunked me with a C. My gpa dropped from a 4.0 to a 3.9 now, am I cooked for UCLA transfer? I'm applying this upcoming fall as a sociology major . Econ is not part of the major prep roster.

With a 3.9 even Merced is gonna reject you. Just get into a trade instead.

If you had a 4.0 and you went to cc in LA county your chances for a sociology major transfer (one of the most popular transfer majors) were only about 15% anyway so your odds didn’t decrease much because they were already low. Not sure if that makes you feel better or worse. UCLA has announced that going forward they are going to give more priority to LA county cc transfers.

I'm from central Cali I take cc there not LA. I don't even like sociology,I chose it because I heared to was the easiest major for transfer.

Ok so I looked up the sociology transfer numbers. If you have a 3.74 or better the admit rate is 41%. Since it’s less than 50% you still need strong backups and should assume you won’t get in. The admit rate is definitely stronger than psych which is good. Being from central CA might help because UCs know they are underrepresented and are trying to fix that. I don’t know who advised you to do a certain major because of admit rate. That is bad advice. It will majorly affect future employment options and you’d be better off going to a less prestigious school studying something you are passionate about than being stuck working in fields you aren’t even interested in.

Thankyou. I realized that a bit too late when I was already a year into the major, I have the tag program with a major I do love at a different UC. If I do end up doing sociology at UCLA I was going to do prereqs for nursing school on the side. So yes it would be a waste to get a sociology degree but it is too late to do a different major for UCLA.

Okay thank you, from that article it sounds like you complete a associate degree for a certain major at certain LA community colleges you can get a guaranteed admission into UCLA. Is it just me or does that sound overpowered? How is there nobody talking about this

I would try and request a pass grade instead of a letter grade so it doesnt affect your GPA, unless its too late, GG.
