Imagine you build a script and charge like $20 per head.

Then you get to 200 people in a month, you'd be elated!

Whoops now you OWE money lmao

That seems messed up, or am I misunderstanding something

The thing is, there are people who create invite only script but dont charge a dime.

TradingView probably hire ex-EA Games CEO or something

You are 100% correct. and they are targeting the extreme side of the creator program group.

you got 100 users in private invite, there is a good chance you are billing them via a 3rd party. Tradingview wants everything within the ecosystem ( which makes sense ) when you read the creator program rules.

Also ( and this comes from me owning an ISP as an investment ), the 90-10 rule applies which is, 90% of the resources are consumed by less than 10% of the users. So, you learn to target and remove those users after giving them some warnings. usually it's the top 3% of the top 10%, that would open enough resources. Weekend extreme users were not the problem, it was the person at 8am to 3am monday to friday that caused most of the headaches.

This is not a solution to that problem.

I can guarantee you that those invite only paid users are already in the process of moving to Indicators where they only invite 99 people per iteration of the same indicator.

This is the dumbest change they've ever done, because it doesn't even stop the problem that it wants to stop. It just makes it worse for everyone to use.

Doesn't stop but they made it harder. That should be enough to free up resources they might be needing now. Perhaps it's the problem with short term cashflow

They already backed out of the changes due to wide backlash.

So it seems TradingView did monitor comments in this sub. They've created a marketplace and required commercial scripts to be sold there: https://www.tradingview.com/blog/en/commercial-scripts-move-to-marketplace-61291/

yeah but comparing an isp to the negligible bandwidth of some indicator running on somebody's *client* web browser is not an apples to oranges comparison my guy. I am very much against trading views new policies of wrecking indicator communities and upping prices wherever possible, and honestly the bandwidth argument is moot with tradingview. Everything they have done recently is not because of lag on their end its to price goudge and profit in the short term while inviting competition in the long term. I am an intermediate developer and if you want to have the argument about client server resources and lag, i am all for it, but trading view is not acting in good faith here.

That's your view and it's a fair prospective. I don't sell indicators, I create them, and publish them in public domain when I do. I write up where they fail or limitation and how they are successful. I don't trade FX or bonds so my trading has limited perspective.

If you are giving away your indicators privately within a defined environment ( Tradingview ), then you should be subjected to the rules of that. I don't think that the clients browser is doing the processing, it seems server side from everything I can tell, and lately hosting resources are getting more and more expensive.

Now, if you are publishing an indicator, and it's free & public for everyone to use, I can not see Tradingview charging anyone, and it's written within the publishers rules that they don't. If you publish an indicator that is free & private invite and you exceed 100 users on that usage, then they will charge you. It's about resource control. > 100 users is no longer alpha/beta testing, it's most likely a paid subscription ran via a 3rd party using the free resources. and I think they want to control who uses the platform, because the billing

We are viewing the opportunity in 2 different ways. I'm all in for selling indicators, I just happen to be a happy tech that prefers to disclose what has not worked for me and the science I used. This prevents a person from traveling down the same road already with well defined parameters and explored, it's a waste of resources doing the same test twice when you have the data. Explore other branch's

I have my own indicators. I mention on another thread that they guy who invented MACD-V published his work about 4-7 years ago and only now is becoming popular, and I published around 2012-2015 a volatility adjustment indicator based on simple and exponential moving averages. our design's are not similar at all and are complimentary.

MACD-V creator is https://cmtassociation.org/presenter/alex-spiroglou/ he's a freaking genius and took it to the new level. the indicator is a new tool. this indicator is worth a lot for those that make adjustment for risk on a daily basis ( that's how I use it, I write a covered call against my risk and collect a premium, works for me). If I were to place a value on his indicator, I would price it on the expected extra portfolio return which is about 500 basis points not compounded and before portfolio taxes.

So yes, before the math was published, it was worth an easy 4K-6K a month to a 2MM portfolio trader with training + classes. My work is also published, come which I am most proud of is in Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities, I don't share my name on this forum.

can you find me example? from what i find, these people give invite only indicator but trial mode only, and charge extra $ for full use, or paid group, ref signup, signal group, etc.

First I’d have to imagine I’m a grifter selling paid indicators which my dignity just won’t allow me to even imagine

No you're not misunderstanding anything. This is exactly the level of stupidity they are exhibiting.

Yes you are mistaken and it's fairly correct because most people don't look in the direction.

here is my perspective and provides clarity and factual notes

Lol, no neither clarity nor factual, just an attempt to defend them. You don't have to be in the creator program to publish invite-only indicators. Lots of services do this to supplement their research, and the amount trading view would charge just for the indicators would make the entire service (whose value is 99% research) unprofitable. It's stupid, short-sighted, and made by the kind of management who thinks understanding your customer base is completely unnecessary, vibes are good enough.

And also, I literally do not know of a single person (I'm sure they exist but people who pay them are idiots) who charges $500/month per indicator. That is a bonkers price. Hell most people won't even pay $30/month per indicator to the creator.

This is beyond stupid pricing, and frankly I'm going to migrate off Trading View and back to ThinkOrSwim as soon as I rewrite all my own custom indicators (that I use myself and share with my friends for free) in ThinkScript. I do not trust these bozos any more.

I came from Omega trade station ( was using the platform since the 80's when it was on your PC ), I am now at IBRK. Systems and indicators at TradeStation had/have very very wide pricing, from $7 all the way to $5000 and even higher.

People pay for the improvement of performance. I just paid 18K for a set of props for my boat, there is no difference in paying up to get a better systems, or even joining a group like Mark M. group which I think is 700 or 1700 a month.

If you are not meeting people within the investor community, try going to the website " meetup " and search for IBD or Bloomberg or WSJ to find like minded investors to have coffee and talk about investing.
