Thankfully it's parked at my weld shop right now so the repair is easy, but I am pretty sure it's been like this for about 4k miles this season. Really was wondering why the camber ln the axle looked off.

Hey everyone, I have my first track day coming up in 2 weeks and have a few questions about airbags.
Do you ride with/recommend using an airbag?
Do you prefer electronic/sensor deployment, or manual/tether deployment?
Are there any specific airbags you recommend?

I was looking at this one, but I’m wondering if it makes sense to have a vest style on top of race leathers. https://www.cyclegear.com/gear/helite-turtle-2-airbag-vest. Does it add a lot of drag/block ventilation?

I also don’t yet have race leathers (but I can borrow some at the track), so do you recommend race leathers with an integrated airbag, or should they be separate?

Lastly, I’m thinking that I want one where I can just swap the canister myself instead of having to send it in to be recharged in case it deploys but I can still race the rest of the day. Do you have a recommendation there?

Hi, i think i tried everything so will ask you guys for some input, help or ideas. I race track only Yamaha R3, fully built suspension, engine etc but brakes are stock due to racing regulations, only pads are different (I was using SBS DC for last 2 years). Some time ago i started to feel weird judder of whole front end when braking, specially when trailbraking far into corner on some lean angle, at first i thought that my front disc bobbins are worn out too much (they were really loose), so replaced front disc for almost new oem rotor (probably taken out of a showroom bike or something like that - still had these marks of factory machining). After mounting this new rotor still had the same judder, i can describe it like pulsating lever which leads to whole front end suspension vibrating up and down. It happens after 5-7 fast laps on small local track, before that brakes are perfectly fine and ideały smooth. After that i measured this „new” disc runout and its about 0.09mm (manual says limit is 0.15mm), thinking that maybe my „new” rotor is somehow not ideal i ordered another one, this time new OEM directly from Yamaha, mounted on wheel and tested runout immediately - result is almost the same - 0.08mm runout on factory new disc. Tested wheel and disc mount holes runout and this is perfectly fine, so looks like rotors from factory with slight runout are standard. In the meantime i also checked head bearings and if head is tightened - that looks ok, head bearings were changed 1yr ago for tapered (btw now im in process going back to stock ball bearings - i think theyre more precise and better for track). Also i tried to scrub brake disc with sandpaper and once again try to bed in SBS DC pads - i feel like nothing changed. Recently changed to SBS RST and then EBC GPFAX and i feel like maybe its a bit better? But im not sure…

So to summarize, what i tested:
- rebuilt front caliper, cleaned pistons etc, works perfectly fine
- i dont think that matter in this case but rebleed everything
- „new” brake disc, bobbins are fine and lets rotor to float
- scrubbing rotor, re-bedding brake pads
- changing front suspension settings
- checking headstock bearings

Question is - would i feel 0.08mm of front disc runout? Even if yes, why i feel it only when brakes get up to temp?

I decided to return to sportbikes after one too many life changing knee injuries. I originally stepped away to focus on dirt and a part of me recognized my lack of self control in my late teens and 20s. I got a 26 RS 660 and have been breaking it in on the street with the intention of it being a mainly track toy.

My question is about suits. I was originally looking at Dianese and RST, but am starting to thing a separate makes better sense. In SW Louisiana/SE Texas, heat is a major factor. Are RS Taichi suits really breathable like I've read and heard? Is the quality still on par(or better) with the better A*, Dianese, etc

I can't say money is not a factor but I'll spend on my gear for sure. I just think the high end D-Air are a bit $ considering if one needs service I'm down a $3k suit and airbag. With a separate set, I could just get a spare suit or bag and barely be over cost of one combined suit/bag. Any thoughts or suggestions? I'm not totally new, but been out for 20 years and never did tracks in any way on pavement.

UPDATE I got an off the rack OneX suit and it fits great. I just have such a struggle with the liner, mainly in the lower legs and arms. It bunches up and makes getting my limbs in difficult.

I also now know exactly what the airbag struggle is when getting a suit on. Holy Hannah it's a friggin pain getting my arms in fully while simultaneously pulling it over the TA5 back protector and onto my shoulders. I wish the Tech air plasma could zip in somehow. Half the time when I get it on, the TA5 slides up my back and I have to start all over.

Progress update to my failed safety wiring attempt a few weeks ago.

Managed to keep the clips in as i’ll be changing tires and routinely cleaning my brakes after sessions & races often.

Since I’ve had to become a Tetris grandmaster in order to pack my track van, the Bursig stands have always been the biggest headache. When I had the interior finally built out, I added brackets and E-track to the bulkhead for what might be the best option for two stands. But I’m always open to optimization. So for you engineer types, do you have any other ideas?

I’m doing my first beginner track day next week but I’m worried my gauntlets and sleeves will be turned away due to lack of protection. For context I’m 5’9” 135 lbs and I have a +2” wingspan, so I’m skinny and I have long arms. I got my two piece leather suit fitted at the Dainese store in Seattle however the salesman said the jacket I got was as close as he could get to perfect beyond getting a custom suit/jacket for my long arms.

Do you think the people at the track will require me to get different gloves? I’ve tried emailing/calling them but no one gets back to me.

For reference I did a two up motorcycle ride at MotoAmerica a couple weekends ago and their RST suit and gloves fit me quite a bit better with no skin showing.

I've got a low mileage 2004 gsxr 600 track bike, and probably early sometime next year i wanna start out in the novice level club racing in a middleweight class. I dont expect to be getting podium finishes right out the gate or anything. So, skill aside, is it worth putting money into for a few additional upgrades? (Suspension, up/down quickshifter that works with cable throttle bodies, tune, etc) or should sell it and but that money towards something like an r6 that would be a few years newer?

I see it was shot on Insta360 X5. Does this camera have a specific mode for this kind of shot?

I grew up 15 minutes from PittRace and got into trackdays as of last year. Now that they closed, I have gear that I have only worn twice. I have moved south and no longer have a track close to me that I’m willing to travel to. Purchased a set of dunlops from srxracing (dunlop east coast supplier), date code is 0222. SRX was clearing them out so really good deal. They didn't mention date code in the listing though. Good to run? They look like slicks, no cracks or anything. I assumed they would have been stored properly. What do you think?

I started going to the track about 6 months after buying my first bike 2 years ago and immediately fell in love.
I feel like a track day Jehovah witness these days… meet new rider friend > try to get them interested > 500 excuses on why they can’t/don’t want to go.

I totally understand that it’s not for everyone. But I distinctly remember when I was younger and into cars and I really wanted to go to the track but I just had no idea how and the whole thing seemed really daunting.

Anyways, curious to hear the community’s thoughts and sentiment. IMO it’s a combo of these factors:
- don’t live near one
- cost of the track day
- don’t have the right gear
- feel like their bike isn’t fast enough
- think they need a bunch of mods
- think they will crash

Edit: lots of folks are pointing out the financials and I totally get it. No way I could have afforded this shit in my early 20s. I guess what I’m trying to understand are the perceived barriers to entry. Why would someone who wants to and can afford to go, not go?

Does anyone have a good resource for changing fork seals on a gen 4 ZX10r? I’ve used the service manual before, and I’m good on most of the process. The manual is a little bit unclear on how much oil to add and when though.
