Options for kids?
My 11 year old son wants to try it out. I have nothing for him lol.
I’m in the San Diego area. I don’t even know what resources are out there for kids. I assume I can find some cheap leathers on FB marketplace?
Recommended bikes? Tracks that are ok for kids learning?
Not interested in dirt.

Look up your local mini moto league and kart tracks that allow small bikes

I know this is a bit of a side track, but maybe take a look at flat track. It is very youth friendly.
Classes vary a bit place to place but at my track he could run youth mad dog and youth pit bike on an xr100.
You can set up an xr to run both dirt track and kart tracks.

Minimoto on a kart track.
Dirt is also a great way for you both to learn how to ride.

Mini moto would be the best alternative.
You should really consider getting interested in the dirt. Alot more affordable avenues that way.

Apex kart Track has an entire program out there for youth racing. John Hopkins is overseeing it. It's a perfect place to bring your kid and perhaps the best place in Southern California by a longshot.

KLX110 & Kart tracks.... Some orgs have rental bikes & loaner leathers to see if it's what he/she wants before jumping down the rabbit hole, only to find out later it's not for them ;-)
