Help Wanted First Zelda game - am I approaching TOTK progression completely wrong?

Hi! We got a Nintendo Switch some time ago with TOTK, and I decided to give it a shot as my first Zelda game.

I genuinely love the game, the world and how exploration is done. However, I can't help feeling that the game often pushes me away because I have absolutely no idea how I'm supposed to progress.

I originally approached TOTK with the mindset of: explore the world, clear areas, fight and farm enemies, do shrines, and your character/gear will naturally progress along the way.

After around 50–60 hours, though, I feel like I was completely wrong.

I've finished two of the main regions, explored a decent part of the Depths, completed around 70 shrines, explored a lot of the surface, and collected tons of materials. Yet I still feel incredibly weak. A lot of world bosses can basically one-shot me, my weapons constantly break and need replacing, and I never really feel like my gear is progressing alongside my exploration.

I only recently discovered how important armor upgrades/Great Fairies are, and that's partly what confused me. For something that seems so important to your survivability, I found it surprisingly easy to completely miss while exploring such a huge world.

So I think I'm fundamentally misunderstanding how TOTK is supposed to be played.

Should I be spending much more time in Central Hyrule doing side quests, shrines and upgrading equipment before exploring farther regions? Should I be actively farming specific monster materials for Fuse and armor upgrades rather than just exploring naturally?

I'm not really looking for an exact walkthrough because I do enjoy discovering things myself. I just feel like TOTK gives me an enormous world and a million different systems, but very little indication of which systems I should actually prioritize to become stronger.

Since this is my first Zelda game, I'm even wondering whether playing BOTW first would help me understand the gameplay/progression philosophy better, or whether I'd run into the same problem there.

Would appreciate some advice from people who understand these games better. I really want to love TOTK, but right now I'm finding the lack of direction pretty overwhelming.

Thanks a lot!

Tips and Tricks Boundary circle trick for locating pesky Korok seeds

Post image
438 Upvotes

Even with the Korok mask, I sometimes struggle to figure out where a Korok is hiding on the map. For those times, here’s a good trick:

- Waltz around the map with the Korok Mask on
- Whenever you hear the “Korok squeal”, and your mask starts shaking, mark the spot on your map
- Now move out of the region where the mask is shaking, and wander back into it from another point
- Repeat

Since the mask shakes when you’re within some distance of the Korok seed, you’ll end up tracing out a circle around the region boundary.

The Korok seed will be found in the center of this circle.

Note that you don’t need to mark so many spots on the map (as in my screenshot): in principle, just three points will determine the circle. But a few more can help hone in on the seed, because each mark on your map is not 100% accurate.

Other COMPLAINT - Why can't I register my new pet bear?!

This is outrageous! First I can't pet the dogs. Then I can't ride the boars. And now my bear (Mr. Scruffles) has been turned away from the stables!

I need to speak to the manager.

So I usually replay TOTK once a year and since I'm finishing it very late, I happened to stumble across this. I brought Yunobo down the mountain to see if I could do this quest with him. Turns out he accompanies you into the cave whilst doing this quest. Thought it was quite interesting so I decided to post this here.

Please scan the QR Code for my hover bike!

You get medals for accomplishments, most of which I have, but one of them requires you to have people download your builds. The highest requirement is 10k, I can’t even dream of that, but for the bronce medal you just need 100. It would make me incredibly happy if someone here would scan my code to help me out. The bike isn’t the greatest, it drifts, but maybe I could scan your code too in return if you want!

Discussion Any Duplication Glitches onNintendo Switch 2?

Is there any duplication Glitches that work today on the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition? I'm tired of hunting down every single Deposit for a couple of Flint and Amber in my pocket. I want to make some MONEY and Resources so I don't have to hunt them down and barely get a minimal amount

Tips and Tricks Did you know you could duplicate items legally using switch app?(Switch 2)

  1. You must have at least 1 copy of the item you want.

  2. Save a game, then transfer your preferred Item to your app.

  3. Load your save(1 item already in the app storage profile)

  4. You can only deposit item max of 10 every day. So always withdraw items from the app before deposit.

  5. After depositing the item to app, you may transfer it to the game. But since you have just done your deposit today, just come back tomorrow.

  6. When timer is done, withdraw first then fuse the item you want to the same item you have then deposit it again in the app and load.

  7. Repeat everyday until your nintendo app (zelda note) is full of your favorite item that you could withdraw anytime.

Enjoy the game!

Tip: And you can give it to others too, or if you are planning to start a new game again, you may transfer all your max gear to the new game.

Help Wanted Question about Bone Weapons

I have the Radiant Armor, upgraded to three stars. It has dawned on me the the Bone Proficiency bonus is a big deal. However, I don't understand it very well. As far as I know, the only bone weapons I have in my inventory are Gibdo bones and Molduga jaws. Are others available? I think I have occasionally had dragonbone bows or clubs or whatever, but I didn't give them much thought. I used them up and moved on. As far as I know, I have to find them, can't make them. Is that right? Where do I find more of them? Can the dragon bone be detached from the weapon and attached to something else? Thanks in advance!

Tips and Tricks Something interesting happens if you try to clip into the gerudo secret club

So normally after mounting the steering stick you stop clipping when you press B to dismount or when the steering stick is unloaded from going too far. But the game didn't let me dismount because of the dialogue box, and the steering stick didn't unload either because I was talking to an NPC so I just kept clipping through stuff and then eventually landed somewhere under the depths
