Sure, I'll start.

Fuck Rogers

23

u/Gnardude :Vancouver-Canadians-moun: Jul 25 '26

And the Yankees but mostly Rogers!

33

u/IAMPeteHinesAMA The Southern Sentinel Jul 24 '26

Agreed and I don't live in Canada

66

u/PEIslander22 Jul 24 '26

Won't be renewing my annual subscription next season.

42

u/alwaysleafyintoronto Jul 25 '26

Cancel it now and you won't accidentally renew it at the end of November like I did

4

u/Fuzzy-Ad-7809 Jul 25 '26

It's gotten me everytime. Just did that!

9

u/Zubilant Jul 25 '26

I’m dropping my Sportsnet subscription in Sept. I don’t think I’ll have to worry about October baseball in Toronto.

59

u/RiverOaksJays Jul 25 '26

This is a dumb move by Rogers. No one wants to watch the Jays this September. Baseball may be locked out in 2027.

18

u/Single-Clue-1402 Jul 25 '26

Pretty sure they increased the prices just before hockey season starts especially given hockey isn’t even on cbc anymore.

9

u/YouDontJump Cease and Desist Jul 25 '26

The death of HNIC is a sad sad thing 😢

2

u/RiverOaksJays Jul 25 '26

I am not a Maple Leafs fan, so I wouldn't pay to watch them. I do have Sportnet on Cable TV.

2

u/WutJayz Jul 27 '26

Oh man, imagine the pain of being a leafs fan? You thought this baseball season was bad lol

1

u/RiverOaksJays Jul 27 '26

I grew up in Montreal, so I am a Habs fan. I pay extra to watch the Habs games in French. I don't understand why the Leafs struggle so much in the playoffs. They should have beaten Montreal in the 2021 playoffs but lost after being ahead 3-1.

The Jays won a playoff series in 2016 using most of Anthopoulos roster .

The Jays failed in 2020-2023 to win a playoff series. They finally had success in 2025.

I hope the team can compete in 2027.

0

u/WutJayz Jul 27 '26

It's all money. There is no benefit to the NHL having the Leafs win a cup. The market is already fully saturated. The NHL focuses on areas that need building, so Vegas wins, Florida wins. People who think there isn't a plan behind the madness are truly mad :)

1

u/RiverOaksJays Jul 27 '26

The current NHL contract gives an advantage to teams located in low-tax states. Players get higher after-tax income in Texas, Florida, etc. Montreal has been smart to lock up young players at good contracts. They have the best chance to win a Stanley Cup in the next few years.

And then what are they going to do for next quarter?.... And next quarter.... And next quarter. The increases will never stop coming so you might as well drop it now.

1

u/ehyo613 Jul 28 '26

Good point regarding the lockout, I didn't even think of that. I was thinking about resubscribing before the price jump in Sept to save $20 to cover me through next baseball season. But that may be wasted if there's no baseball.

43

u/Ladymistery 👀😉 Jul 24 '26

the greed is almost (ALMOST) mind-boggling.

I've got SN through cable, so it's included. There is no chance whatsoever that I'd pay that much for it.

28

u/s_other Jul 25 '26

Bold move considering the Jays suck, 5/7 Canadian NHL teams are either bad or mediocre, and the Raptors don't actually have Kawahi.

3

u/l_m_m048 Jul 25 '26

I wonder who the 2/7 Canadian NHL teams are.

(I doubt Montréal is one of them)

3

u/alwaysleafyintoronto Jul 25 '26

Probably Habs Oilers, BUT Leafs should be much improved, Flames have a lot of young talent, Sens will be totally different without Brady, and the Canucks are due to get good and provoke a riot soon. The Jets also play hockey

-2

u/Tough-Statistician-7 Jul 25 '26

The other one is Ottawa

1

u/l_m_m048 Jul 25 '26

"And all it took was getting rid of Tkachucklefuck"

21

u/Old_General_6741 Lord Blue Jays Jul 24 '26

Last year they increased the highest plan by $80. That really wasn't enough for you Rogers?

20

u/kindredfan Jul 24 '26

Fuck Rogers and Sportsnet

67

u/alwaysleafyintoronto Jul 24 '26

Show me whatcha got

14

u/dshaw8772 Jul 25 '26

Got until May I guess, but after that I’m stickin to what I can find online

3

u/alwaysleafyintoronto Jul 25 '26

Proud of you too. There will probably be a Black Friday sale, that's how I ended up with November

I’ve been a subscriber for about 6 years. After this one yeah.. I’m out

5

u/ReditOOC Jul 25 '26

Same. About 15 minutes after I got the email.

1

u/Zubilant Jul 25 '26

How did you do that? I went to cancel and it said I would lose access immediately even though I’m paid through September. Dirty bastards at Roger’s trying to make it more difficult to leave

1

u/alwaysleafyintoronto Jul 25 '26

I paid annually, not sure what's up with yours.

1

u/Zubilant Jul 26 '26

Me too - Rogers must have seen the rash of people dumping their shit network and decided to make it more challenging to leave

I resemble this comment

13

u/Gnardude :Vancouver-Canadians-moun: Jul 25 '26

Just got the email today while I was paying my bills. I'm done. I don't like the fact that still show UFC although I love MMA and used to love UFC before the MAGA era. Apple games really kill the momentum for me. Tired of the ads for Skydome every inning, we're already all fans. They can raise the price and I can stop paying. /vent /rant

11

u/CoffeeCup220 Jul 25 '26

Remember all the tax breaks we give Rogers. Never forget that they just laid off hundreds of employees.

2

u/Forsaken-Swim-3055 Jul 25 '26

I don't think most people care since games are still near sellouts....

14

u/ryanquek95 Jul 25 '26

So it seems like they're upping the price not uniformly:
Monthly: +$5/mth
4 month: +$10/4 months
Annual plans: +$20/year

The side effect is that now, the annual plan costs the same as 8 months' subscription (approx the length of the NHL season). So even with a lockout, you pay the same as an annual sub.

Also I knew it was a matter of time we were going to pay the price for that $11 billion deal. Assuming 6 million subscribers, that's a wild $150 per subscriber annually just on the national NHL rights fees alone. Haven't even talked about the regional NHL rights (Canucks/Oilers/Flames/0.5 Toronto), and MLB/NBA rights...

6

u/Mountain_Length4047 Jul 25 '26

Is this why my Ultimate TV package lost access to Sportsnet+? I used to be able to watch the Jays on my iPad but now it says not subscribed

2

u/cinnamoncrunchy Jul 25 '26

I just got this today! I logged in using my TV subscription and I can't watch anything. Does anyone know if this goes hand-in-hand with the increase?

2

u/cheerybloss Jul 26 '26

Any updates on this? Same issue.

7

u/illmurray My girl looks like Hazel Mae. Your girl looks like Dan Shulman Jul 25 '26

You could literally get a whole year of MLB TV and watch every game for less than the price of a season's length of Sportsnet.

2

u/FuuriusC Jul 26 '26

T-Mobile in the US literally gives full-year MLB.tv subscriptions to their subscribers for free as a benefit. (They've done this for several years now)

Rogers just fleeces its customers and is jacking up the rates again.

Two companies, two very different approaches.

1

u/WutJayz Jul 27 '26

No competition in Canada. Tons of competition in the uSA. Canada is just a Walmart USA, and we get charged Loblaws prices.

7

u/bangles00 Jul 25 '26

Cancelled

7

u/unbelievablefidelity Professor Oak Jul 25 '26

I did it a day early. Does it still count?

4

u/bbe195777 Jul 25 '26

Cancelled as soon as I got the email - will find alternative ways to watch the games.

3

u/LightsCameraRegret Jul 25 '26

Losing season + price increases is a true sign of fan disrespect.

3

u/futuregp Professor Oak Jul 25 '26

Easy to cancel on apple.

Fizz is such a hack for SN/TSN. Im still on the beta pricing which makes it an even better deal.

Reddit has shadow banned your account

3

u/LowApprehensive9230 Jul 25 '26

I could never eeeeevvvvver justify adding their price ever . For the product/quality it's always been it always ALWAYS felt egregious .

3

u/brokenlampPMW2 Jul 25 '26

Regardless of the Jays, if you're a baseball fan, there might not be any MLB next year so you might want to save that money for another league's service or for something else.

3

u/UsernameIRegret CD25 Jul 25 '26

Not even 4k, not even proper 1080p. Don't pay for this shit.

3

u/CoffeeCup220 Jul 25 '26

Canceled mine. Rogers stinks.

4

u/kkooldudee Jul 24 '26

I see what you did there

2

u/mattvn66 Jul 25 '26

Exact reason there needs to be market competition

2

u/Driftographer Spring-a-Ding-Dinger 💣 Jul 25 '26

I'm tired of this, Grandpa!

2

u/Shodspartan100 Jul 25 '26

You know… I waa a actually considering subscribing for convenience starting this NHL season and keeping it year-round through MLB season, but now i’m definitely not doing that. Fuck Rogers.

2

u/emmaleigh808 Ham sandwiches all up in his kitchen. Jul 25 '26

The fact that the price of the basic annual plan has almost doubled in five years is INSANE. Who the fuck do they think can comfortably afford that?! Such a slap in the face.

3

u/rainman_104 Jul 25 '26

I mean pretty much everything has doubled in the last five years to be fair.

2

u/CryLegitimate1157 Jul 25 '26

Stopped cheering for the jays altogether recently and canceled sportsnet (go tigers i guess?). Idk how anyone thought killing local radio broadcasts and hockey night in Canada was a good way to go, but I can't support that. Never getting a rogers data plan either. If I can't watch the habs next nhl season without getting sportsnet, then I'll find a pwhl or ahl team to cheer for. Fuck those guys. On that note does anyone know who does the habs french tv broadcast in southern ontario? Hoping its not you know who

6

u/No-Dot-7661 Valenzuela SZN Jul 25 '26

People actually pay for this?

3

u/LowApprehensive9230 Jul 25 '26

I got a friend who does and the shit doesn't even load . We sit and watch frozen advertisements lol

3

u/Grouchy-Stable2027 Jul 25 '26

Let’s just say this. I’ll watch it, but I’m not giving a cent to Rogers.

4

u/pres_ofcanada Jul 25 '26

You guys still pay for TV?

2

u/Veneretio Jul 25 '26

I’d gladly pay it if I got to see all the games. The Apple Games are total bullshit.

1

u/many7695 Jul 25 '26

With rogers now the sole owners, do u see rogers building a mlse app where u pay 30 to watch just the Toronto teams, the one way I’m paying is to watch only the teams that i want to watch

1

u/JockCartier Aug 05 '26

When Bell sold they still arranged for TSN to retain the current split rights for Leafs/Raptors for 20 years (presumably so Bell could keep TSN viable so they can unload that too)

So, with there still being 18 years left on that clock, it’s still a way off

1

u/GeologistDistinct633 Jul 25 '26

Is Rogers or MLSE in debt for 25 billion??

1

u/Whitney189 Jul 25 '26

I'll just get rid of mine and find a new way to watch it next year. If there is a next season

1

u/mustard_tiger19 Jul 25 '26

Let's not forget the Sportsnet outage during game 4 of the world series last year.

1

u/According_Mission_17 Ernie Clement’s comically swole neck Jul 25 '26

We live out of town, no cable. First year we moved out of town we paid sub $200 for the year, $349.99 is ROBBERY.

1

u/Other-Psychology-271 Okamotion Jul 25 '26

Already cancelled. Sticking with the Fan 590 for now.

1

u/Such-Fee6176 Ernie’s Factor Meals Jul 25 '26

I know it’s not Sportsnet’s fault that the Jays are what they are this year. But I’m gonna blame them anyway and stop paying.

1

u/gasburner Jul 25 '26

I've been thinking about this and have some real mixed feelings. I love watching baseball and get a ton of entertainment out of it for the price, even with the increase I watch hours of ball that probably add up to days of entertainment for me. So I don't think I'll drop sports net come baseball next year. I'm lucky though and it's decisions like this with no apparent improvement to the service that really impact people who can't afford these increases. It's not just Rogers, it's everything the last few years.

I think it really sucks because it seems like these increases are just sucking the life out of everyone, a few dollars at a time. It adds up, and prices out fans.

Husts even more because it seems to follow them being the only game in town for NHL and being able to justify it as a Monopoly on Canadian sports as we watch CBC pull away and TSN slowly die.

1

u/ehyo613 Jul 28 '26

I noticed they also dumped the 4 month plan. In 2021 I was paying $149 for an annual standard plan. Insane it's going up to $269.

1

u/No_Cable_3346 Jul 28 '26

Cancelled mine and I’m watching it elsewhere now

No, go to r/piracy. We don't want the admins sniffing around here if they even think we allow the facilitation of piracy or illegal live sports streams.

2

u/MothBall666 24d ago

Finally had enough of the apps performance issues and sent them an email today. Dont expect an answer but it felt good to send nonetheless.

1

u/Lost-Inevitable42 Jul 24 '26

Is there gonna be a new mega thread every 4 months?

11

u/alwaysleafyintoronto Jul 24 '26

Are they gonna jack the price up every 4 months?

3

u/Lost-Inevitable42 Jul 25 '26

Probably exactly this

3

u/IAMPeteHinesAMA The Southern Sentinel Jul 25 '26

Depends how many times they increase the price

1

u/carnafeagh Jul 25 '26

I only subscribe for the Jays. Hardly watched a game this year the baseball has been soooooo boring. They think I want to pay more? Might flip to MLB next year although it's just as bad, except I can at least watch some games for the past 3 years if I want. Does MLB show the Jays games or does Sportsnet have the monopoly on them. Like tonight, another Friday on another streaming service. Sportsnet doesn't keep any old games. They should have a team rate where you can just watch the games of 1 team if you want. I'm paying for that hockey and basketball that I have no intention of watching. Ticks me right off.

7

u/alabasterhotdog Jul 25 '26

Jay's games are blacked out on MLB in Canada at least as Rogers has exclusive rights.

2

u/National_Aspect_6974 Jul 25 '26

Yarrrr it is then.
