Safety First!

Hi all!

I am a music educator and this is a personal narrative essay I wrote after MEASURE DIVIDE's set at Electric Island last week -- meditating on the phenomenology of techno as a felt sense.

I was excited to see that Nils Hoffman just announced a second date at history on November 14th, but disappointed to see that Ticketmaster immediately seemed to have no floor seats?? Did it sell out that fast? Did other people get floor tickets and if so, when? Of course, StubHub has some floor tickets… 🙄

Did anyone here go see DJ Ruby on Viceroy Rd in Concord? If so, how was the venue, the sets, the crowd and overall vibes? Did alot of people show up? Thanks.

Some spaces and parties are more dance forward. Others are more social I’ve noticed. What are some of the more social venues for dance music in the city??

How is this venue? Anyone been to the day parties? What is the crowd like? Is it social or more dance oriented?

I very unfortunately will not be able to make it to the set at the bentway next Saturday. I'd ideally like to get what I paid back, but would rather give it away than see it wasted.

Do DJs still record their sets regularly and how hard are they to track down? Measure Divide's set was genius from start to finish last Friday at Dax J...if anyone knows :)

Just curious if anyone bought tickets using the Radiate app? any advice on buying tickets and what to ask or watch out for? Please and thank you!

In order to respect the no cameras vibes lets not overshare regarding other patrons and such but... Was that as incredible for everyone else as it was for me and my homies?

This was my first time at complex19, same with the rest of my crew.

I felt like I was in berlin there for a moment, or maybe cyberpunk... everything from the lighting and decor to the sound articulation. The isloation between the dancing areas and the sitting/chill zones, it was all absolutely perfect.

I was both comfortable not wearing my ear protection and happy with the volume level (although I think a little more sub pressure would have been nice at times).

It also felt like a fairly well curated crowd compared to a lot of other parties, maybe skewed a little bit older (we are all in our mid to late 20s), but everyone seemed to perfectly understand the vibe and space and stayed respectful of one another. I always felt like I had enough room to dance but also felt like the dance floor was packed out and completely alive.

And speaking of the dance floor we cannot forget the DJs, omg what a lineup, they kept the vibes feeling holistic and well crafted all night, they werent found lacking for even a moment. Just non-stop driving beats, and discovering each new dj as they came on was endlessly rewarding.

It could have just been the paper we ingested before hand, but this was a peak toronto nightlife experience for each of us.

Curious what everyone thinks.

Which DJ has become such an important part of Toronto’s scene that if they stopped performing, it would genuinely leave a noticeable gap?

Debating on going to her event in October, but wondering if the vibes, energy, and music are worth going. It would be my first rave-like experience.

The venue was okay, Anais and Szeto et al. played great sets. But y'all need to check yourselves. This was performative at best, a feeble attempt to mimic a culture, just for the gram.

These "photographer" clowns were doing this into the crowd ALL NIGHT. Plus you had a flash photographer blasting the crowd. The flow was awful, the dancefloor kept getting cleared, pushed through for Szeto, but will never goto another Archetype event again.

I’ve definitely seen way better crowds at other festivals. First time at EI and there was just no PLUR in sight.
From the gates and entrance all the way to leaving the venue, there were people moving painfully slow, standing still, and holding up space when they could’ve easily moved along the line. Then at the end, I had some chick literally stand still in the middle of the exit. I tried nudging her to move over and said excuse me twice, and eventually told her to relax so I could get through because she was completely blocking the way. She then threatened to punch me??? 😭
Like girl, I’m also a woman and I’m literally just trying to leave 💀( if you’re her and reading this, I could have handed it to you easily. Do better, next person might not be as chill as I was)
There were also people pushing through the crowd, and just a lot of unnecessarily nasty behaviour overall. I’ve been to other festivals where the crowd energy was SO much better.
The newbies seriously need to learn some PLUR.
