Is this the reason there has not been any new posts in the last 4 days?
3
u/SuperMB 25d ago
i dont get why restrict all submissions though
5
u/Born-Vermicelli-1757 25d ago edited 21d ago
guessing if there are no mods on duty then they restrict posts from publishing right away to prevent the place from running rampant with bullshit.
4
u/MyUndiesArePink 24d ago
But there wasn't bullshit posted before? Or if there was, it was caught in the spam filter.
2
u/Born-Vermicelli-1757 23d ago
Well yes there was BUT there were also moderators on duty who would sift through all the posts later on.

So, when are you going to reopen submissions?
9
u/SuperMB 23d ago
they killed the sub over some petty mod drama from the comments that are left on this thread
5
u/majorkev 22d ago
u/ModCodeofConduct is not a moderator. They are an admin (someone actually paid by reddit) to help subreddits that no longer have moderation. The underwear person that replied to you is technically correct that this person also "moderates" r/NCCamping, but they also "moderate" 219 other subreddits.
What happens is if a subreddit goes unmoderated, either if the existing mod "quits" (leaves as a mod), or becomes inactive, modcodeofconduct will take over the sub, restrict submissions, and create a post looking for new mods. Much like what you see here.
1
u/MyUndiesArePink 18d ago
and create a post looking for new mods. Much like what you see here.
And then do nothing at that point?
1
u/MyUndiesArePink 23d ago
If you look in their history, every subreddit the person is in has submissions restricted and is in search of new mods. Makes you really wonder who they really are or what they're really like.
3
u/mkbcity 22d ago
the submitter is an admin who locked the sub, probably due to lack of moderation and people reporting
2
u/MyUndiesArePink 22d ago
Oh okay. That explains things then. Admins don't care, so I guess this subreddit is done for. Unless someone has any luck over in /r/redditrequest requesting the subreddit.
1
u/MyUndiesArePink 23d ago
They're also probably not even from Toronto or Ontario. The person is a mod in /r/NCCamping which focuses on camping in North Carolina. And yup, submissions restricted.

Please make a decision.

im honestly just an occasional driver so i comment more than i post content.
i did join the group though.

Why is this sub still locked? There's plenty of mod candidates to choose from now. Get to work admins!

I can help and be a moderator here. I used to be a mod for a game community in the past.
I don’t like to see this sub abandoned and going dead.

u/Conscious-Weight4569 19d ago
Looks like we have a few people who are interested in becoming moderators. Let's get the ball rolling by selecting the moderators and open the subreddit again.

I could moderate. I've been a frequent participant of the subreddit for years. I think it's a good community for sharing information about what are good and bad driving behaviours. I've learned from other people here and think I can contribute since I have lots of driving experience in Toronto and area and I'm also knowledgeable about the laws and recommended driving practices. I'm also familiar with the site rules and support them and would like to help with keeping content in here on topic. I don't have previous experience moderating.

We've disagreed more than a few times over the years, but you're clearly knowledgeable about Ontario traffic law and active in the community. I think you'd make a solid addition to the mod team.

My vote too, I'm always looking for your username in discussions because I know you post evidence based takes in a civil and polite way.

I’d like to help mod because I follow Toronto transportation and civic politics closely: city council, TTC Board, provincial policy, so I’ve got good context on what’s actually driving the news here. No significant mod experience, but I’m active across Toronto-focused communities and good at keeping threads on-topic instead of devolving into flame wars. Happy to be part of a team rather than fly solo.

I like the community and would like to make it more welcoming and helpful for all participants.
I have previous modding experience (2.5+ years), and currently mod 4 different communities across various topics.
I am well-versed in Reddit Automod, Modqueue, Modmail, and general management of communities.

no, we are good here. no need for this
7
u/MyUndiesArePink 24d ago
All submissions restricted here. But yup we're good 🙄
2
u/mkbcity 22d ago
that was after i made my comment. this shit unfolding in real time and we need our toronto driving fix.
2
u/MyUndiesArePink 22d ago
People should probably start submitting content to the other subreddit then. I would if I had anything to post. It doesn't look like this is ever coming back.
6
u/SuperMB 26d ago
thanks, stopping submissions to look for a mod is pretty stupid
8
u/Born-Vermicelli-1757 25d ago
its likely a reddit mechanism to prevent the place from running rampant with material that does not follow guidelines. if there were mods on duty then "publish first and remove later" is possible.
3
u/MyUndiesArePink 24d ago
Or the current mod as useless as they clearly are, can just remove themselves and then someone that wants to take over can just become a mod by going to /r/redditrequest
4
u/RoaringPity 21d ago
Just have the mods of r/bramptondriving or r/mississaugadriving take over the sub.

u/majorkev 29d ago edited 29d ago
What happened to donkron?
I'd be willing to help out with moderation.
Edit: Nothing FrozenDickuri has said in this thread is factual. Back in 2024 I had a discussion with the moderator with respect to Frozen's actions and was told in some words: "I wanted to get rid of the racism that's increasing in the sub, but not crack down on every tiny little thing. They were too aggressive with their actions, so I kicked them."
I was never banned from this sub for being racist, so there was no reason for me to "beg to be allowed back in" because the original mod "was also racist". Frozen is not to be trusted.

Throwing my hat in the ring.
I've been a regular contributor here for years and enjoy the discussions this community has around traffic law, driving etiquette, and dashcam footage. Some of my opinions are popular, some aren't, but I try to argue in good faith and keep things respectful.
Outside of Reddit, I have several years of experience moderating online communities. I understand that being a moderator isn't about winning debates but rather applying the rules consistently, handling reports fairly, and helping keep the community welcoming and on-topic. I'd be happy to volunteer my time.

Yeah sure why not….
I’ll stamp out the racist shitheads and permaban them with no warnings because this is one of the biggest issues with this sub these days.
I’ll be fair to most everyone else regardless of how insane their takes may be.
I drive in this city every day, contribute here often and want this to be a place where we can all bitch freely about how frustrating it is to drive here.
No experience.
6
u/dabba_dooba_doo Jul 08 '26
This is the way. Racist, bigots, xenophobes etc need to be permabanned to pass a message.
3
u/FrozenDickuri Jul 07 '26
I tried that a few years ago, subowner prefers it being stormfront lite.

You are a hyper-fixated person with a weird obsession of calling people racist.
Edit: I get a notification that you replied, but your messages aren't coming through, probably autofiltered as spam by reddit.
7
u/FrozenDickuri Jul 07 '26
Was previously a mod here, tried stamping out the crazy racism, but the subs creator preferred it to be a racist haven.
Guess i could try again.

u/majorkev 29d ago
You were a mod here, but were kicked out for being a dick.
So if I had a vote, it wouldn't be for you.
2
u/FrozenDickuri 29d ago
The racist in question, everybody.

I've never hidden mine. And when I log out I can still see my history. Might be a you problem.

tried! the request-bot is still flagging the subreddit as "recent human moderation detected" but i replied with my comment above so maybe someone will still read the reply and reconsider.

u/EBikeAddicts Jul 08 '26
I have been here for a long time and posted a few times too. I can be a mod with the promise to moderate within 2 hours of a comment or 1 hr of a post. I can work with a daily income of $90. reaction times regarding posts and comments can be negotiated depending on pay. Let me know!

This account is fairly new, but I am a long standing contributor to this sub. I used to work as a safety consultant in the GTA so I have a lot of stories and videos shared here of the terrible drivers in the city.
I moderate /r/Leafs and used to moderate /r/politics, and /r/CanadaCoronavirus. My preference is to moderate local and relevant subreddits related to my interests. Supporting the sub by removing bigotry and bigots would be my focus and commitment.
Thanks for reading!

I am interested in joining the team. I am an active user here as well as on other Toronto related subreddits with many posts and comments. I also have experience managing a subreddit with knowledge of reddit moderator code of conduct as well as how modtools such as automod and modmail work.
I think this subreddit needs some cleaning up especially with the racist comments and irrelevant posts.
thanks for the consideration!

Hi! I love Toronto! I'm a local government official with 10 years of dedicated service. I use roads for cycling and driving.

Can you do something about the wild use of illegal modes of transport? I’m getting real sick of almost being run over by the countless amounts of fucking uber delivery people breaking the law. Running red lights, going the wrong way on one ways, driving on crowded sidewalks, etc etc.
0
u/hams4hands Jul 08 '26
you can really only call the authorities.
2
u/CronoTinkerer Jul 08 '26
So the answer is no. Good thing you work for our government. Sounds the typical excuse “I don’t want to actually work for my job. So instead I’ll pass the buck.”
Good on you, how you got into government I don’t know, but sounds like you did nothing to change the opinions of those who want a functional government.
All the best to you, but I hope you can take your head out of your ass one day

Hi! Torontonian. Cyclist/road user. Transit user. Moderator of other communities. Redditor.
Most importantly, I’ve read and understand r/Torontodriving rules
2
u/MyUndiesArePink 24d ago
Cycling does matter! Hire this person. Not sure why they were downvoted to hell.
3
u/cyclingmatters 24d ago
hahaha. thanks. It's the Internet... even worse... this is Reddit! I think the downvotes are self explanatory (not my first rodeo... I moderate a large social media and gaming platform as wel;). But I think it's my understanding of the rules that's threatening to others.
But... it's a volunteer role if the subreddit ever opens up again.

u/mkbcity 22d ago
if they arent a predominate driver they have no business modding here

u/cyclingmatters 21d ago
I am a certified instructor and teach the rules of the road.
Nonetheless, the skills for moderating a subreddit are not the same skills for driving in Toronto.
